Although I have a robust cell phone with internet, logging to Greenwich Roundup from the phone involves such lengthy loads that it hangs the phone browser.

Greenwich Roundup on Twitter solves the problem. Just go to Twitter.com/greenwichru and get all the latest.

The beauty of Twitter is its reliability through the cell phone networks (it works great in bad earthquakes - I learned this from Twitter.com/AndersonCooper).

Town of Greenwich could save a bundle by using this to communicate to the public, following the emergency lead of CT_DOT.

The 2nd beauty of Twitter is NO OVERHEAD to manage e-mail or distribution lists. The users do that for themselves.

Comment:
Dear Mike,
Using Twiiter to help get out town's updates would be an easy no cost solution that would help keep town residents informed during an emergency.
The town should fire their IT guy and hire you.
Two things might be causing Greenwich Roundup's web page to load slowly to your phone.
Greenwich Roundup got almost 3,000 visitors yesterday, because the Greenwich time and other town news media outlets have not been providing timely updates about the power outages in town.
Greenwich Time Cub Reporter Colin Gustafson filed this inaccurate report at 5 pm today.
Yesterday, Greenwich Time reporter Frank MacEachern reporter filed this misleading story at 11:09 am Friday
Maybe someone should tell Frank MacEachern that the The shelter at the Western Greenwich Civic Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday for the families who have been without power for 8 days.
Another thing that might be slowing down Greenwich Roundup's page load is the Twitter RSS Feeds that were recently put on the home page.
Today I will remove the "Raw Greenwich Twitter Feed" and see if that helps.
Thank you for the feed back

03/20/10 Town Adminstrator John Crary Is Still Lost In Space As 2,500 Greenwich Residents Are Without Power For 7 Days

The Town Of Greenwich Email System Has Just Confirmed That The Following Email Has Been Sent To The Town Administrator

Your email has been sent to John Crary.
Thank you for using Greenwich web email.

Subject: Updates For 2,500 Greenwich Residents Who Have Had No Power For 7 Days

Dear Mr. Crary,

On Friday you said that you would start sending storm clean up updates and press releases to Greenwich Roundup.

It has been over 24 hours, yet we have not seen any updates.

On the Town of Greenwich Website First selectman Peter Tesei posted....

"Further bulletins will be released as new information becomes available. Please check this web site and the local press for the latest information."

The last updated posted on the Town of Greenwich website was at 11 am on Friday?

Is the Town Emergency Management Center even open today?

Did the emergency shelter close as scheduled on Friday or did it stay open for the families without power?

Who in the town is meeting with CL&P today?

Will there be a press conference about to update the 2,500 residents about what is being done to restore power this weekend?

How many Greenwich road crews are on duty today?

If there is no emergency management center updates today. Will there be updates on Sunday?

Who have you spoke to at CL&P today?

Town Administrator John Crary Promised to start sending us storm updates and press releases early Friday morning.

I am not sure if John Crary lied or just hasn't sent out updates and press releases from his Emergency Pizza Center at town hall.

There are a couple of thousand Greenwich residents with out power who want to ask First Selectman Peter Tesei why is he paying $177,549 of their tax dollars to to Crary.

Greenwich Town Administrator John Crary can't even pair town road clearing crews with Cl&P Power crews.

On Thursday morning Greenwich Roundup talked with CL&P crew workers in town and was told they are having trouble getting to downed lines, because roads were still blocked.

Peter Tesei needs to debrief the pencil pushers in the Emergency Pizza Center and find out what mistakes were made so that the town is ready for the next storm.

Greenwich Student Qualifies for Prestigious International Science Fair Greenwich High School student, William Newberry was awarded first place in the Physical Science category at the Connecticut Science Fair last week at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT. William's research project was entitled "Diatom CdS Nanostructures as a Method to Enhance the Efficiency of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells."
The State award qualifies William to attend the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in San Jose, CA in May 2010. This marks the fourth year in a row that Greenwich High School has been represented at this, the most prestigious pre-college International competition in the world. The Connecticut Science Fair was held from March 9-13, and once again, Greenwich High School had the strongest presence of any high school in the state.
Fourteen GHS students submitted their projects to the fair and of these, 12 students were selected as Finalists for the final day of judging. The Finalist group represents the top 10% of projects in the fair, and include the following Greenwich High School students: Victor Ansart, Hannes Buck, Jordana Cepelewicz, James Gordon & Kevin Ryan (Team), William Hallisey, Clayton Hardman, Marina Kaneko, Brian Miller, William Newberry, James O'Sullivan, and Felix Zhou.....

On Sunday, after a year of deliberation, Congress will complete consideration of comprehensive health care reform legislation. I cannot overstate the urgency of health care reform. Every day, 123 Americans die because they don't have access to health insurance. And every day, small businesses call my office with stories of doubled premiums, sick workers they cannot afford to insure, or the downright collapse of their business because of a shocking increase in health insurance premiums. And now, opponents of reform are taking advantage of the complexity of this legislation to mislead and scare us.
These opponents argue one of the imperfections in this bill is its cost. My colleague, Representative Paul Ryan, a Republican from Wisconsin, has recently accused supporters of this bill of hiding its true cost by covering only six years of costs with ten years of revenue. This criticism fails to account for the fact that several of the bill's most important cost saving benefits - the creation of consumer-friendly exchanges, for example - will take several years and sizable up-front investments before they're up and running, while many other insurance reforms - like the bans on pre-existing condition exclusions and lifetime premium caps - will take effect much sooner.
You don't have to take my word for it. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office yesterday estimated that this health care proposal will reduce the deficit by $138 billion over the 2010-2019 period and, more importantly, in the ensuing decade, will reduce the deficit by $1.3 trillion. If the anti-reform criticisms were true, we would expect less savings and more debt in the longer term. The CBO's analysis clearly debunks these claims.....
