But Who Is Going To Be The Source Of That Republican Funding That Shelton Resident Dan Debicella Is Despairingly Seeking?

It looks that some of that funding may have been arranged in Greenwich last Tuesday night.

Billionaire Steve Cohen just hosted a "Fancy Nancy" dinner party at his over-sized mansion in Greenwich to ensure his that his brand new favorite political party - The Republicans - win this November.

SAC Capital's Billionaire Hedge Fund Manager Steve Cohen recently made a big shift in donor allegiance from Democrat to Republican.

At a meeting at his house on Tuesday night, Cohen and other large Hedge Fund donors told Republican political party operatives that they did night like financial reform.

Cohen's SAC has switched sides over the financial reform issue in 2010 he gave 93% ($193,000 of $207,000)of his political donations to his new "no financial industry regulation" buddies in the republican party.

Previously, Mr. Cohen was part of the Dodd Squad.and gave 71% to the Democrats in 2008. Most of it went to Senator Chris Dood who was running for President and still is a ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee.

Ultra Secretive New York City Billionaire Bruce Kovner of Caxton Associates, Paul Singer of Elliott Management and Fox News Contributor Daniel Senor of Rosemont Capital all said that they will throw there money behind Republican or any other candidates who will stop regulation of the derivative and hedge fund industry.

06/18/10 Greenwich Resident Michael Metter's Spongetech And The Infamous Universal Express Are Linked

Business Talk Radio Network Owner Michael Metter Is Once Again In The News

Spongetech and Universal Express link emerges Crain's New York Business The penny-stock fraud case involving Spongetech Delivery Systems and its chief executive, Michael Metter, looks to be the biggest case of its kind involving a New York-based company in many years. It also turns out the case has something in common with another infamous fraud, Universal Express. Spongetech was a maker of SpongeBob SquarePants sponges; prosecutors last month charged Mr. Metter with conspiracy to commit fraud and obstructing justice. The government alleges that no fewer than 99% of the purported sales at Mr. Metter's company were phony, while he made millions from selling shares at inflated prices. In addition, the Securities and Exchange Commission filed civil fraud charges against Mr. Metter and some associates. Here's a story about Mr. Metter and his background. (subscription required) This case is potentially the most engaging stock fraud in the city since the SEC cracked down in 2007 on a tiny and truly bizarre New York-based company called Universal Express. Universal Express was a luggage delivery outfit whose management team seems to have devoted relatively few resources to shipping suitcases and a lot of time to selling billions of near-worthless shares, issuing blizzards of press releases and blaming short-sellers for their woes. When a federal judge ordered CEO Richard Altomare to cough up $1.7 million in penalties, Mr. Altomare refused to pay and continued selling Universal Express shares in violation of the court order. The fed-up judge eventually sent Mr. Altomare to prison. Until now, Spongetech and Universal Express seemed to have little in common except for the fact that both were advertisers at Mets, Knicks and Rangers games. But last week, the two companies were linked more closely when one of the folks ensnared in the SEC's Spongetech case cited Universal Express to help make his argument on why a federal judge should deny the agency's request for a preliminary injunction and asset freeze. The defendant is a lawyer named Jack Halperin, who the SEC alleges contributed to the Spongetech fraud by issuing "false and baseless" opinion letters that enabled Mr. Metter and associates to distribute worthless shares to gullible investors. It's the SEC's claims that are baseless, Mr. Halperin argued in his filing. In order to prove fraud, the SEC must establish "scienter" or recklessness amounting to scienter, Mr. Halperin's attorneys wrote, citing the SEC's case against Universal Express. Scienter, Mr. Halperin's lawyers helpfully explain, means "a mental state embracing intent to deceive, manipulate or defraud" investors. Mr. Halperin, a lawyer with 38 years of experience, described himself as an "unwitting victim" of the Spongetech scheme who provided good-faith legal services at his ordinary hourly rate.

Shays wrong on Sarah Palin

Columnists and letter writers are quick to provide anecdotal evidence of Shays "moderate" positions, but there is a clear pattern of his rightward movement on matters of national and international consequence since 2000: His uncritical support for the "war on terror," which the Rand Corporation has called counter-productive and ineffective; his failure to discern the problems military contractors, such as Blackwater, pose for Iraqis, our troops, and our reputation abroad; on the domestic front, his vote against tax cuts for the middle class and against the extension of credits for college tuition (HR 3996). And voters should not forget Shays' vote to allow torture by CIA interrogators (HR 2082). In fact in close votes (votes where Shays' vote was essential to the passage of Republican legislation), Shays voted with the Bush crowd 89% of the time.

The latest proof of Shays' move to the right is his support for the "awesome" Sarah Palin. His statement that "It's a woman that should be selected, not a particular woman," should send a strong message to women (and men) who support choice and who believe in women's rights in general. The woman Shays finds "awesome" would like creationism taught in our schools, believes that prayers to God will bring about the Alaskan oil pipeline, it was God's will that America invade Iraq, and that she is free to use lobbyists, as long as she flatly denies it. Perhaps McCain is comfortable with Sarah Palin's ignorance and lies, but shouldn't Christopher Shays have the principles and guts to temper his support for a vice presidential choice that clearly (and crudely) was intended to please the most extreme segment of the Republican Party?

Jim Himes has firmly addressed all the issues most dear to Fairfield County voters, including civil and human rights, the economy, education, health, energy, Middle East peace, the "war on terror" and the war in Iraq. Himes will deliver informed votes based on his principles, intelligence, and experience -- not on politics. He will put Fairfield County before Washington politics as usual.
