'Sugar daddy' sex scandal case heading to trial

STAMFORD -- A Michigan woman, deemed the "head slave" of a Greenwich investor's online fantasy world, rejected a plea deal Tuesday in an extortion case and is planning to fight the charges.

Patricia Miller, 45, of Cassopolis, Mich., appeared in state Superior Court, where she told a judge she would not accept a plea agreement on felony charges that would have allowed her to avoid jail time.

Miller is charged with first-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, first-degree criminal attempt at larceny and second-degree larceny for allegedly using various Internet personas to blackmail DuPont heir and Riverside resident Stephen Dent.....

....."Basically, I am trying to clear my name," said Miller, who is married and has one daughter and two grandchildren. "I feel this is a selective prosecution. I think it's very unfair.".

Dent, who viewed himself a "slave master," had a network of women he chatted with on the "sugar daddy" dating site SeekingArrangement.com. Miller is the fourth person charged by Greenwich police with attempting or successfully extorting the millionaire as a result of these online relationships.

The Michigan woman is described in police reports as the "harem mother" who would call Dent's "slaves" to make sure they were fulfilling their end of the arrangement, which entailed getting breast implants and sending the investor sexually explicit pictures and chats......

......Dent has not been charged with a crime. Police said they declined to charge Dent in 2007 with patronizing a prostitute because they were going after the more serious crime of extortion and said it would have been difficult to prosecute him based only on statements......

Greenwich twins face judge for separate offenses
STAMFORD -- Twin brothers from Greenwich facing a slew of charges appeared Tuesday at state Superior Court, where a judge sentenced one to prison and sent the other to jail to await his next court date

Daniel and Christopher Flores, both 21, appeared separately in court before Judge Richard Comerford. Daniel Flores entered a plea agreement on multiple offenses, many stemming from a March 14 incident at Wilbur Peck Court in which Flores was part of a group that became aggressive and unruly toward police.

Flores will face three years in prison with three years of special parole for charges of interfering with an officer, inciting a riot, breach of peace and inciting injury to a person or property, according to the plea agreement. The plea deal also encompasses March 23 charges, including violation of probation, sixth-degree larceny and illegal use of a credit card.

Christopher Flores was scheduled to apply for accelerated rehabilitation Tuesday for numerous charges ranging from possession of liquor by a minor in 2007 to interfering with an officer on March 16 during a courthouse melee that erupted when Flores had come to attend his brother's court appearance Flores' attorney Mark Sherman told Comerford that Flores had picked up a new charge that was going to hinder his application to the accelerated rehabilitation program........

......Flores' attorney Mark Sherman told Comerford that Flores had picked up a new charge that was going to hinder his application to the accelerated rehabilitation program.

"My client has picked up a new file," said Sherman. "I know it's not a good thing, but my client has asked me to plead with you not to raise the bond."

According to court records, Flores was charged Aug. 22 for possession of narcotics......

......"Chris and Dan have taken a lot of the blame for a much bigger problem going on in Wilbur Peck Court," said Sherman. "They should not have to carry the weight of the neighborhoods' problems on their shoulders alone. These are two boys who have been dealt tough hands -- they don't have any parents in their lives, yet have still made it through high school, worked steady jobs and have tried to persevere.......

......Several other men charged in the March 14 incident at Wilbur Peck Court have not yet resolved their cases, including Jorge Cardenas-Rey, 21, Stephen Wells, 18, and Joseph Antanascio Carey, 19. A 17-year-old also was charged. All but Wells lived at Wilbur Peck Court at the time of the incident, but have since been evicted, according to the Greenwich Housing Authority.

09/01/09 Reader Submitted Comments About The Matthew Margolies Murder In Greenwich

The Greenwich Time recently reported the following:

"The investigation has been hindered in many ways primarily by people intentionally misleading us or withholding information," said Zuccerella."

I for one cannot believe that after all this time that no-one has been brought to justice.

I don't think it was ex Port Chester police officer Bates, but someone from the neighborhood who was known to Matthew Margolies, and that is why people have supposedly mislead and withheld information.

This was a horrific murder, and took it's toll on the local community.

Many in this part of town say that it is the Greenwich Police Department that is "intentionally misleading us or withholding information."

One week after finding Matthew Margolies' body the Greenwich Police Department revealed that they had located Matthew Margolies' missing fishing pole.

By all reports Matthew was last seen in possession of that fishing rod the day he disappeared killed.

In a prepared statement then Greenwich Police Chief Thomas Keegan (the former lead detective who screwed up the Martha Moxley case back in 1975) said that the rod had been sold by Matthew to a "friend."

For 25 years, the Greenwich Police Department have refused to identify the "friend" who ended up with Matthew's fishing pole.

Why all the secrecy?

Who is the Greenwich Police Department protecting?

Maybe if the Greenwich Police Department would open up after 25 years and start telling the truth, then others in the neighborhood would feel safe enough to talk openly about suspicions they may have.

09/01/09 Greenwich Blogger Prevented By Police From Attending Himes Meeting

Hot time at the Himes Town Hall meeting tonight

Himes is speaking at Town Hall right now (6:45) and being broadcast by WGCH – who knew that station was still in business?
I couldn’t get in because, when I arrived at 6, I was told by a very polite policeman that seating/standing capacity was 200 and it was already filled.
Turns out the Dems sent out emails urging TeddyKare supporters to show up at 4:30 and take all the seats. Those of us with jobs – non Democrats, in other words, were to be shut out.
I’m told by someone listening to the broadcast that, judging from the noise, the Dems missed some seats but what the heck, should be fun.

Update:

They let in a reporter from Greenwich Time. Maybe I should have tried to crash the party as a blogging reporter?

Maybe Greenwich Students Should Act "Asian - y"
So That Test Scores Would Skyrocket

Greenwich Roundup Reader Writes.....

HERE'S NEWS FLASH!!!

If Hispanic students study more they will do better in school!! You can spend all the money in the world on a kid, if his/her family doesn't push study time and the kid doesn't study your wasting your time.....but like those kids were quoted saying in NYC "Hey why looking to act white"?

Gary

COMMENT:

Dear Gary,

Your comments are derived from a somewhat racist perspective.

It appears that you are confusing cultural identity with academic ability.

Gary would you say that," White Kids Who Act Black Or Like Hardcore Rap Music Are Bringing Down Greenwich High School's Test Scores?

Maybe our new Greenwich Public School Superintendent should mandate that all Greenwich Students K - 12 Should recieve one hour of instruction in how to act Asian, since Asian students score so well on tests at all grade levels.

Gary, do you really think that Hispanic parents are not telling their children to study and do good in school?

Just last week I say a young boy helping a lady take out scores of trash bags at an office building on Field Point Road, and I wondered if he was going to have to help his family put food on the table once school starts.

The problem in Greenwich is that well off and highly advantaged students often get as much as or more school resources than those children who are disadvantaged through no fault of their own.

The true shame of this town is how we treat the weakest, poorest and youngest members of Greenwich Society.

It is sinful how Multi-millionaires and Billionaires can sit in back Country and Waterfront masions and turn a blind eye to the inocent children of Western Greenwich.

What have Greenwich Billionaires like Paul Tudor Jones and Fddie Lampert done for the poor and disadvantaged children of their community?

Jesus Christ said it best ...

"I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Glenville opens its doors for a tour

By Colin "BOE Brown Nose" Gustafson

Purely by the numbers, the newly rebuilt Glenville School isn't that different from the recently razed schoolhouse it replaces. Measuring 56,000 square feet, or roughly the size of a football field, the new, single-story schoolhouse is about the same size, in the same footprint, as the old building......

.....The tour was attended by several dozen parents, town lawmakers and school officials, including schools Superintendent Sidney Freund, First Selectman Peter Tesei, Finance Board Chairman Steven Walko......

......The new school, built for more than $24 million, is expected to be ready for occupancy by the end of September, paving the way for students to start class there as early as the end of November ......

.....Glenville mother Donna Curtis was more impressed with another feature: Each of the school's 20 new classrooms all measure roughly the same size -- a welcome change from the hodgepodge of different-sized instructional spaces at the old school, she said......

.....If the rest of the project goes according to plan, the building could be completed both under budget and slightly ahead of schedule, said Frank Mazza, chairman of the school's building committee. Roughly $180,000, out of an initial $2 million, remain uncommitted in the project's contingency fund for unforeseen expenses, Mazza said.......

COMMENT:

How Arthur Levitt Helped Ruin US Economy
Black Star News

The crimes which Levitt helped cover up in his capacity as Chairman of the American Stock Exchange and later as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have helped destroyed the financial power of America. When America is relegated to “developing world” status because of the ruinous greed of the Wall Street elite, China and other countries shall erect a statue of people like Arthur Levitt thanking him for protecting his friends at the expense of America.

There are many financial scandals that should have been exposed long ago. Perhaps some of the financial meltdown would have been prevented. Let’s go through a few examples.

The mainstream press, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, have refused to examine the connection between Cohmad and Fairfield Greenwich and the American Stock Exchange (AMEX). This has been done to protect Arthur Levitt. The destruction of the American way of life and its inherent values of fair play and compassion for the poor mean nothing to the press barons that own The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. ...

08/23/09 The Greenwich Police Department And The Greenwich Time Have Spent Another Year Ignoring A Murdered Little Greenwich Boy

Nothing Has Been Done For 25 Years:

Matthew Margolies - Greenwich's Other Unsolved Murder ......

Then The Greenwich Time Publishes This ......

Margolies, 25 years later: Still no killer, but cops are hopeful

Police say investigation is still active and the case can be solved

Twenty-five years after Pemberwick teenager Matthew Margolies went missing and was later found slain near his home, the killer remains at large. Despite all the time that has gone by, officials remain hopeful newly developed evidence will help crack the case.

"It is an active investigation and there have been some things worked on very recently," said Chief State's Attorney Kevin Kane, who took over supervising the state's cold case squad little more than three years ago.

"I think the case can be solved. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up that these new developments will lead to it being solved," he said......

......In 2006, investigators informed the Margolies family that a request for a grand jury to indict a former Port Chester, N.Y., policeman had failed.

Police had begun focusing on the retired police officer, Roger Bates, who had been convicted of child molestation in Texas. During Bates' sentencing, a childhood friend of Matthew Margolies testified that Bates had molested him too, in 1984, and that Bates had taken the two boys fishing on one occasion that year, according to Shelley Hallman, the Dallas assistant district attorney who prosecuted Bates. .....

.....Soon after, Sgt. Timothy Duff, who had been handling the investigation, retired and Sgt. Mark Zuccerella took over. Zuccerella said he felt many hurdles faced in the past had to do with bad information.

"The investigation has been hindered in many ways primarily by people intentionally misleading us or withholding information......

....."We are excited that these past obstacles we had to deal with can be overcome and we have already produced evidence we didn't have in the past," Zuccerella said.

Zuccerella said police have narrowed the number of suspects, but neither he nor Kane would comment on whether any previous suspects, such as Bates, had been cleared in the case.

It took 25 years for Greenwich police to solve another long-time cold case, the murder of Martha Moxley, who was beaten to death with a golf club in the backyard of her Belle Haven home.....

.......Zuccerella said he and two other Greenwich detectives are in regular contact with the family.

"We are in contact with the family quite often," said Zuccerella. "A lot of things, however, we are holding close to our chests."........

08/31/09 Frank Mazza Was Pissing On Glenville Parents Legs And Telling Them It Was Raining When He Said Their School Could Open As Soon As March 2009

Last Year Frank Mazza Was Bragging That He Was So Far Ahead Of Schedule That The Glenville School Could Be Finished In March Of This Year.

Mazza Even Boasted That Glenville School Could Be Finished Before Hamilton Avenue School, Because He Had A Brand Spanking New Building Contractor To Work With.

Frank Mazza Even Boasted Than Glenville Students Would Be In Their New Classrooms This September.

He Just Didn't Tell Glenville Parents That The New Classrooms Would Be In The Mold Plagued Hamilton Avenue School Modulars.

Glenville gets under one roof

By Colin "BOE Brown Nose" Gustafson

It may not be ideal, but Glenville School parents say the temporary modular facility at Western Middle School where their children begin class this Wednesday will at least reunite students and staff under one roof.....

......Since mid-August 2008 crews have been reconstructing Glenville's old building on Riversville Road, which was demolished after being cited for a lack of natural light, problems with the heating and cooling systems and a leaky roof.

The rebuilt school is expected to be ready for occupancy by the end of September, paving the way for students to start class there after holiday recess ends in January 2010.....

.....But concerns linger about the health conditions at the modulars facility for some Hamilton Avenue parents.

Last week, a group of parents filed a lawsuit against the town claiming the school board failed to address persistent moisture- and mold-related problems at the modulars. That school's students were dispersed to six different schools in spring 2008 following the discovery of mold in the modular units. Because of long-term exposure to mold, students have developed a number of health issues such as lasting cases of strep throat, ear and sinus infections, and neurological symptoms......

......a consultant later said that only low, non-hazardous levels of mold remained.

The district has tested inside the modulars every three months, as well as doing repair work after a major rain storm or snow fall, a school official said. The district will continue to follow those procedures while Glenville students are housed at the modular facility......

....."I'm sure they (crews) have been doing a good job of checking to make sure the modulars are dry and keeping it safe," said Donna Curtis, the school's PTA president.......

Charlene Abdal, 'the fourth selectman,' calls it a career
Not once did her name appear on the ballot.

Yet through multiple regime changes, controversies and changes to the face of Greenwich, Charlene Abdal, the executive assistant to the first selectman, has never abdicated her power and influence on the affairs of the town, say those who know her best.

Abdal, 57, who has served as an aide to 11 first selectmen over 34 years, will call it a career on Monday......

.....A lifelong town resident who grew up at Armstrong Court in Chickahominy, Abdal started out as a clerk for Lewis in the first selectman's office. She was later promoted to administrative secretary, executive secretary and finally executive assistant to the first selectman.

Abdal rattled off the list of bosses she has worked under during her career -- Rupert Vernon, Ruth Sims, Rebecca Breed, Roger Pearson, John Margenot Jr., Ragland, Lolly Prince, Richard Bergstresser, Jim Lash and Tesei......

......"Part of the reason I've been here so long is I've been so neutral," Abdal said, who's served under eight Republicans and three Democrats.

For nearly 29 of her 34 years in the first selectman's office, Abdal has worked alongside Paula Belmont, an administrative assistant.

"She's like family," Belmont said of Abdal. "She's taught me everything. It won't be the same.".....

.....An open house will be held at the office for Abdal from about 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, her last day on the job.
Joined by upward of 100 button-wearing supporters and Democratic top brass, town native Drew Marzullo kicked off his campaign for selectman Sunday by touting his experience as an emergency responder.....

....While the Democrat's bid could be an uphill battle in a Republican-leaning town like Greenwich, Himes said he believed a victory was still well within reach for his party's ticket.

"We've always fought against the odds. We've always fought the current and operated in the headwind as Democrats in Greenwich," said Himes. "If we make a commitment today that we're going to work hard for these two, they will win. They will win."

Blumenthal hailed Marzullo's work as an emergency responder, saying his ability to work under pressure was on display recently when the candidate responded to an accident scene in which the attorney general's college-age son sustained minor injuries on his bike after hitting a car.

"He is first of all a professional, a consummate professional, in an area where people literally save lives," Blumenthal.....
STAMFORD -- Gus Bertolf Jr. and his father returned to their Cos Cob dock last week with about $200 worth of conch, their new cash crop in the continued aftermath of a lobster die-off that began in the late 1990s, they said.

State DOT considers selling Route 7 property
Want to buy a home along a never-built expressway? The state Department of Transportation has outlined to the governor the benefits of selling off 14 residences purchased years ago by the state for the expansion of the old Route 7 connecting Norwalk and Danbury.

Concerns about the recession have led more public school families to put off enrolling in private school this year, contributing to a surge in enrollment a town schools, district officials said.

As Internet turns 40, barriers threaten its growth
