Citizen Journalist Frank Trotta Was The First And Only Reporter
To Warn Us About A Dangerous Crime Spree In Town:

The Greenwich Police are warning residents along the Merritt Parkway corridor to make sure their second story windows and balcony doors are locked.

GPD’s Burglary Clearance Squad is investigating several residential burglaries and burglary attempts in proximity to the Merritt. In those crimes, apparently the perpetrator(s) is gaining access through second floors, specifically windows and doors off balconies. Such second floor windows and doors are typically not alarmed. The perpetrators often use lawn furniture, and downspouts to help them get to the second floor. According to police, it is generally high-end jewelry and cash which is stolen.

But Debra Friedman Claims She Was First To File The Report About The Meritt Parkway Burglary Spree. In Fact She Is So Good, Because She Has Psychic Abilities. It Looks Like She Wrote Her Story About Two Weeks Before The Police Department Was Even Written

A string of unsolved burglaries has prompted police to warn residents who live along the Merritt Parkway corridor.

The Burglary Clearance Squad is investigating several burglaries and attempted burglaries that have occurred in the past week, according to Detective Timothy Powell.

"It is an area of concern. The homeowners are near a major thoroughfare, which makes it easy for burglars to get off and back on the highway," said Powell, who is head of the burglary squad.
Police said the recent pattern of burglaries indicates that a suspect or suspects are breaking into homes through unlocked second story windows and balcony doors and stealing cash and jewelry.
"One of the reasons why I think they are going in second floors is because most times the alarms are on the ground level," said Powell.

Powell said he believes the burglaries are happening during the evening hours when residents are not home.

"The traditional burglar will avoid contact at all cost. He will choose a house that appears unoccupied, so it is important to make your house look lived in," said Powell.

Police did not say how many burglaries and attempted burglaries have been reported in the last week, noting many are still under investigation. Powell also said it was too early to speculate on whether or not the burglaries were all committed by the same person and persons.

The style of sneaking into Greenwich homes in the evening using second floor windows is reminiscent of a notorious......

..... Keith Felcyn, president of the Round Hill Association, said he received an advisory from police about the burglaries by e-mail on Tuesday.

"I hadn't heard a thing about it before," said Felcyn.

Felcyn said he was not particularly concerned about burglaries but that he and others are aware of the "dangerous times," especially given the current economic situation.

Powell said the best thing to do is make sure one's home is always locked.

"We caution the homeowner not to be complacent, but not overly alarmed either," said Powell.

Police are asking residents to be alert and report any suspicious activity by calling (203) 622-8000. For more information on burglary prevention tips, contact Powell at 622-8075.

Residents who live along the Merritt Parkway corridor are heeding the police department's warning about a string of recent burglaries in the area.

"We tell our members to be careful, lock all doors and keep some lights on when you are not home," said Theodore Walworth, president of the Northeast Greenwich Association, who noted that members of the association try to stay abreast of any kind of crime patterns that might affect the immediate community and periodically send out notices.

"If we catch wind of anything through word of mouth, then it is also up to us to reach out to police and ask them if there is anything we can do to help."

Police sent out an e-mail alert to several area neighborhood associations last week noting a recent rash in burglaries in which a suspect or suspects were entering homes through unlocked second story windows or balconies and stealing cash and jewelry.

Members of the Community and Police Partnership, a group that helps connect town residents with neighborhood resource officers, also were warned around Thanksgiving of the threat of potential burglaries.

"Around Thanksgiving, they said as we are moving into the holiday season burglaries are up," said Ron Brien, a member of the group who works in town.

GREENWICH TIME REPORTER FRIEDMAN CONTINUES.......
.....Larry Larson, a member of the District 10/Northwest Representative Town Meeting delegation who lives on Round Hill Road, said the threat of burglary has always been a concern for residents of the remote backcountry particularly because of the close proximity to the parkway.

"The fact that people who live around Round Hill Road are near the exits means they could be easy targets," said Larson.

The concern about the Merritt Parkway access points has even prompted some residents to suggest installing cameras on the ramps.

"We've had concerns about the access points that people may have to homes throughout the area that are close to the parkway. It's a quick on and off," said Walworth. "A couple of our board members said that there should be monitoring cameras on the entrances going south and north up on North Street."

While the recent police warning has gained the attention of those who live in the affected areas, the threat of crime is nothing new to residents near the Merritt Parkway corridor, as several other incidents over the past few years also have prompted alarm.

In June 2007, a burning body was found on the Lake Avenue off-ramp on the Merritt Parkway. The body was later identified as Francisco Aguirre, a 25-year-old from Middletown. No arrest has been made in the case.......
COMMENT:
Greenwich Residents Have Been Begging The Town For Those Parkway Cameras For Years, As Well As, Increased Residential Patrols.
The Increased Patrols Will Help Deter These Dangerous Criminals And Will Have Police Officers In Close Proximity If An Emergency Call Is Recieved Downtown.

Last January when the body of a Bronx man was dumped off Sterling Road in the backcountry after he was shot to death by a Bridgeport criminal; the Greenwich Police Department stuned the town by quickly solving a murder case.
What the newspapers and the Greenwich Police Department often fail to mention is that Bronx murder victim George McPherson killer was caught on tape by a private security camera.
Will A Backcountry Family Have To Slaughtered Before They Can Get Increased Police Patrols And Cameras On The Off Ramps?
GREENWICH TIME REPORTER FRIEDMAN CONTINUES.......
.....Detective Timothy Powell, who heads the Greenwich Police Department's Burglary Clearance Squad, said the best thing area residents can do to protect themselves is to remain vigilant and always make sure their homes are locked when they are away. Police also recommend making sure backyard furniture is secured so it can not be used to help a burglar enter a home through a window.

"It's also important to develop a trust in your neighbor and watch out for each other," Powell said.

01/02/09 Donation To safety Net Giving Circle Will Help Sme Needy Families And Seniors In Greenwich

Helping Provide A Safety Net To Sme Greenwich Families And Seniors

Easton Courier

The Fairfield County Community Foundation (FCCF) will double donations to help area residents hit hardest by the economic crisis, thanks to a $100,000 matching grant from an anonymous donor.

Through Jan. 15, up to $100,000 in donations to the Foundation’s Safety Net Giving Circle will be matched, ultimately pumping $200,000 into area non-profits.

A giving circle pools individual donations to focus on one cause, amplifying the impact of each gift.
Every dollar will be doubled and distributed to ten local non-profit organizations providing food, housing, health care, emergency relief and job training throughout Fairfield County.

The ten non-profit organizations in the Safety Net Giving Circle include, by category of service:

• Food Assistance

Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County provides food to up to 100 non-profits and programs serving lower Fairfield County, at foodbanklfc.org.

Neighbor to Neighbor’s food pantry serves over 1,000 needy Greenwich families and seniors, at n-to-n.org......

MORE INFORMATION:

NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR MISSION

We at Neighbor to Neighbor are dedicated to improving the lives of greater Greenwich by creating caring connections between members of our community. We do this by providing for the exchange of simple and basic living essentials in an atmosphere of kindness and respect.

NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR HISTORY

In 1975, Neighbor to Neighbor opened its doors in the basement of Christ Church Greenwich. A group of concerned individuals established Neighbor as a clearinghouse for the distribution of free clothing and food to people with emergency needs in Greenwich, Stamford and Port Chester.

While the food program began as an effort to supply food on an emergency basis, the Greenwich Department of Social Services asked Neighbor in 1984 to initiate a weekly food program for Greenwich families in great need of assistance in the face of increasing cost of living expenses.

Volunteers packed bags with a variety of available food items to supply families with three meals, for three days, for each member of the family. In 2001, Neighbor computerized its operations and entered client information into a database. This allowed for the implementation of an appointment system in the Clothing Room. Clients are given appointments for their Clothing Room visits and this has eliminated the waiting time and crowded shopping experiences. In September 2005,

Neighbor opened a “Client Choice” Food Pantry, one of only a few operating in the state of Connecticut. Clients now have the opportunity to do their own shopping with the aid of shopping lists provided with quantity guidelines based on nutrition and the number of people in the given family.Today, in addition to responding to emergencies, Neighbor to Neighbor proudly provides on-going supplemental food and clothing to individuals and families in the greater Greenwich area.

01/01/09 More On The Nude Harry Poter Actor Visiting Greenwich

RedOrbit

British actor Daniel Radcliffe, star of the Harry Potter films, says he would like to perform in musicals after a recent New York performance.

The Daily Telegraph (Britain) said Thursday that after making his on-stage singing debut at the New York charity gala, Broadway Cares, the 19-year-old actor said he would like to see additional singing roles in his future.

The actor, who plays the title role in the successful Harry Potter films, performed at the charity gala as part of his touring role with the Equus theater production.

The play includes several actors dressed as horses and Radcliffe performing the song, The Love That Dare Not Speak Its Neigh, which he personally wrote for the production.

The Telegraph said the cast of the production, which includes an on-stage partial nude scene by Radcliffe, traveled to Greenwich, Conn., to visit stables in preparation for their equestrian stage roles.

The "I Am Busting My Tail On New Years Day" Award Goes To

Greenwich Blogger Chris Fountain....

I can find no record that he did, but this NYT article from 1995 says that he was convicted of crimes carrying a minimum mandatory 15 month sentence and faced up to 15 years for having his show horse Charisma electrocuted. I find it entirely plausible that the son of a Greenwich billionaire would never see the inside of a jail cell, but if anyone with access to Nexus or any other source of definitive information can confirm how George made it from convicted felon to Miami art patron all without a detour to Ossining, I’d appreciate learning of it.

UPDATE: Here he is being sentenced to three years in January 1996. Did he do the time? We’ll keep looking.

UPDATE II: To my amazement, he seems to have been hit with time, even though he fought his conviction all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court. He reported to prison in February 1996 and was still there when he permanently lost his appeal, as we lawyers like to say.

Update III - 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon. Turns out that the father of John Edward’s mistress (she who bore his love child last year), a gentleman from Palm Beach named Druck, was a client of Tommy Burns, the same killer young George hired to electrocute Charisma up here in Conyers Farm. In fact, according to this story, Burns didn’t know how to do the job so Druck demonstrated the proper procedure. Absent that, George might still be a resident of our fair town and Miami would have lost a great benefactor. Isn’t life strange?

Druck doesn’t sound like a nice man. Besides being a crooked lawyer, the horse he electrocuted with Tommy Burns was his own daughter’s.

This Palm Beach newspaper says George served 18 months of his 33 - month sentence. And gave between $10,000-$25,000 to the ACLU to help in their fight to give Florida felons the vote. No doubt he was shocked to learn of his urban brothers’ disenfranchisement.

I heard last night of a $5 million offer made on a newly-constructed house that has been on the market forever (which I define as more than a year). I was first astonished that anyone is bidding $5 million for anything right now, and then further astonished when I learned that the builder’s counter-offer amounted to, in effect, “take a hike”. My personal suspicion is that that builder will be crawling, not hiking, soon, but he obviously is in no financial distress and can afford to wait for his price, or thinks he can.

I have been advising buyers to focus on new construction because builders are so financially vulnerable, but this is a good reminder that not all builders are in bad shape and won’t accept 80% offers......

When developer Building and Land Technology made a “private investment” last November in William Pitt, Pitt’s owners hailed the move as one that would benefit both organizations.....

......Now comes word that Pitt has defaulted on its debt and BL&T has forced out Jones and Breunich. It’s exactly what happened to Antares when they accepted an “investment” from BL&T last summer. Antare’s principal Joe Beninati, Mr. “Rent is as insignificant to hedge funds as the lunch bill” was asked about his new partner by The New Yorker’s Nick Paumgarten:.....

......For all I know, Derek Jeter is still at Harbor Point. Beninati and his partner Jim Cabrera are not, having been shoved off the dock just a few weeks after this interview. And now Casey Jones is gone, too. Perhaps he can start anew by selling off the Antares boys’ twin mansions on Moreland Road, the last vestiges of their fumbled attempt to sell residential real estate in Greenwich.

Congratulations are due to the anonymous realtor who posted the following on December 17, when the BL&T investment in Pitt was announced:....

I bank with Greenwich Bank & Trust and a fine bank it is. But it merged with Westport National Bank four years ago and became Connecticut Community Bank and now that larger entity is being sued by defrauded Madoff investors. It’s Walt Noel and Fairfield Greenwich Group, writ small: Westport Bank took a couple’s money, charged them 4% a year for the privilege of having them watch over it for them and on December 12, the day Bernie was arrested, sent them a letter saying that, gosh, they’d invested the whole thing with Mr. Madoff and would the couple like them to write a letter to Mr. Madoff, asking that he give their money back?

I have great faith in Greenwich Bank & Trust and I trust them to keep my piddling earnings safe but back when I hunted stockbrokers my colleagues and I cheered when banks went into the brokerage business. We were sure that they’d prove incompetent at suggesting wise investments and our subsequent paydays courtesy of arbitration panels proved us right. Never ever trust a bank’s retail “investment advisor’, is my advice. Certainly, don’t count on Westport National Bank to safeguard your money.....

01/01/09 Does The Greenwich Time Webmaster Hate The Greenwich Police Department?

It Is A Mystery Why The Hearst Newspaper Web Master Repeatedly Refuses To Put The Greenwich Police Department's Officer Of The Month On The Greenwich Time Web Site

No Good Cops Allowed Online
At The Green Kitty Litter Liner

Some months ago Greenwich Blogger Chris Fountain said he happened to pull a copy of the Greenwich Time out of a recycle bin and saw that the print edition of the local rag had published the police department press release about the officer of the month, but the story never appeared online.

Since then, month after month the Greenwich Time web master has declined to publish the "Police Officer Of The Month" story online at .greenwichtime.com .

Well just like clockwork on the last day of the month of December, the Greenwich Police Department has released their "Officer Of The Month" press release and Greenwich Time Managing Editor Jim Zorba has buried the story on page 3 just above Area briefs listings.

However, it is a mystery why the Greenwich Time Web Master will publish Area briefs online, but wont publish how Greenwich Police Officer James Smith got an award for a quick pursuit and arrest.

The growing number of online Greenwich news readers, know nothing about how Officer Smith recovered a stolen car and took a weapon off the street after a vehicle pursuit and a foot chase through a wooded area of town.

Later Greenwich Police Officer said that this was the first time that he was forced to chase someone during a motor vehicle stop.

01/01/09 Greenwich Legislator Says He Is Ready To Hit The Ground Running

Greenwich Citizen

Freshman state Senator-elect Scott Frantz, R-36 (Greenwich and portions of New Canaan and Stamford), expects to tackle the state's shuddering deficit and sinking economy when he reports for duty in the Connecticut General Assembly in Hartford on Jan. 7.

Frantz also has on his mind a crusade to shoo 18-wheelers off I-95 and beef up transportation of freight by rail. Only 3 percent of freight moves by rail in Connecticut - compared to 30-to-40 percent in many other states. The reliance on trucks makes I-95 a nightmare day and night, particularly in Fairfield County.

Energizing Frantz, Greenwich resident and community leader, for those tasks are appointments to crucial committees in the General Assembly announced over the weekend. The appointments made by state Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, R-Fairfield, were announced by Brett R. Cody of the state Republican Office.

McKinney appointed Frantz ranking member of the legislative body's powerful Commerce Committee. He also selected Frantz for berths on the Appropriations, Program Review and Transportation committees. (Ranking member means Frantz is a member of the Senate minority party in the Democratic-dominated Senate.) Experience on Several Fronts ...

.....In naming Frantz to the various committees, McKinney said:

"As a successful entrepreneur and having just stepped aside as chairman of the Connecticut Development Authority for the last five years and a member of the board for over 14 years, Scott has first-hand knowledge of what it takes to make a business efficient and successful.
"That expertise will be invaluable as the state looks for new and innovative ways to make government more efficient, protect jobs and grow our economy."

In taking on a state senator's role, Frantz has had to step aside from another public service commitment of long duration, the chairmanship of the Board of Directors at Bradley International Airport.

The Transportation Committee Senator-elect Frantz will serve on is wrestling with reaffirming Connecticut's commitment to infrastructure projects and mass transit solutions.

"Connecticut's transportation model is not adequate for the 21st century," Frantz said.
"Transportation gridlock, particularly in lower Fairfield County, is a drag on economic growth. It is polluting our air, and it is a public safety hazard.

"I believe there are ways to stimulate our economy and improve our quality of life by making smart investments and finding immediate, cost-effective solutions in mass transportation, getting trucks off our highways, and moving more goods by rail."

Renowned for his community service in Greenwich, Frantz is idolized by teenagers. He was chief stem-winder in founding the popular Arch Street Teen Center.

12/31/08 Adam Horawitz Says Walter "Feeder Fund" Noels Buddy Bernnie Madoff Should Not Be Excommunicated (Updated - Picture)

There has been an unusual amount of introspection in the Jewish community this holiday season. Hanukkah was almost overshadowed by the Madoff scandal and the accompanying uproar about his impact on the Jewish community. The frenzy of handwringing and accusation culminated with the call for Madoff's excommunication from Rabbi Joshua Hammerman, of Temple Beth El in Stamford, Connecticut, who stated in a passionate a letter to Malcolm Hoenlein that "never before has one man done such damage to individual Jews, Jewish organizations and Judaism itself." Hammerman was motivated by fears for the future of Judaism: "Our own children are watching us."

The future of Judaism and the moral standing of the US Jewish community are being threatened, but ironically, and tragically, it is happening far from the country clubs of Palm Beach and the mansions of Long Island. It is happening in Gaza. And unfortunately there is far too little handwringing about it in the Jewish leadership.

On the seventh day of Hanukkah, Israel unleashed an aerial assault on the Gaza Strip. This attack was ostensibly in retaliation for Qassam missiles shot from Gaza, but as was also seen in the 2006 war in Lebanon, the barrage was overwhelming and disproportional. At the end of the first three days of fighting over 350 Gazans had been killed and 1,600 injured. These deaths included children coming home from school, women shopping in open-air markets, and people waiting for buses. The indiscriminate nature of the attack combined with the ongoing siege of Gaza, which continues to cut the civilian population off from food, medicine, water, fuel and electricity, constitutes a horrific form of collective punishment....

....I could not celebrate while Gaza was dying - while cities were cut off from electricity, from water, from food. I could not join my community who, if not actively celebrating and promoting this barbaric behavior, were sitting idly by while others are forced to starve and be killed in our name.....

....I do not share Rabbi Hammerman's desire to ex-communicate anyone from the Jewish people, but I do share the Rabbi's concern for the future - for the future of Judaism and the messages we are sending the next generations. The siege and destruction of Gaza is the political, humanitarian, and moral crisis of our time. Where is the moral standing of a community whose leaders promote the slaughter of innocents? And when will we agonize over scandals where lives are lost at Jewish hands, and not just fortunes?

President Bush leaves his father's hometown following a fund-raising appearance. (GREENWICH CITIZEN file photo )

By PATRICIA McCORMACK

Bushy-tailed, upbeat and confident during a 2004 campaign fund-raiser in Greenwich, President George W. Bush promised to move the nation and the world to a rosier future.

Today, as he prepares to leave office with his ratings in the cellar and the country flirting with a depression, it's evident that President Bush was incapable of delivering on the campaign promises.

The country he promised to lift up during his 32-minute speech at the Hyatt Regency in Old Greenwich has been driven into a ditch: Skyrocketing unemployment, the Wall Street meltdown, the home foreclosure mess, and the auto industry on the ropes.

The old saying, "As GM Goes, So Goes the Country" - if true - portends a far from rosy road ahead for the nation.

Yesteryear - the 2004 speech - the country appeared still on the highway and not slipping and sliding into the proverbial ditch. In fact, the President's reception by the Greenwich turnout was downright friendly. The White House Web site reported that his speech was interrupted some 50 times by either clapping or laughter.

Maxi-laughter erupted when Bush noted the presence of some of his classmates, Yale '68. The President related that they invented the expression "shock and awe."

"They invented 'shock and awe' when they heard that I was President," Bush said.

Bush used God's name twice - "God bless," as he signed off; and as he described freedom in the middle of his speech, as "the Almighty God's gift to every man, woman in the world."

All that aside, the pithy mingled with promises as Bush let go with the nuts and bolts of his stump speech aimed at winning four more years in the White House. At the time, the stuff fired up passions of the party faithful for victory over terrorists and the Democrats......

Just as she was 25 years ago, Helen Itin-O’Malley will be at the Round Hill Community Church this Sunday when it begins marking its silver anniversary with a series of events reflecting on the past and looking forward. — Ken Borsuk photo

Written by Ken Borsuk, Staff Reporter

Twenty-five years ago the congregants of the Round Hill Community Church celebrated the opening of its new location by marching from the Round Hill Community House into the sanctuary as a bagpiper played and worshipers were welcomed in.

This Sunday, that momentous event will be marked with a special church service at 10 a.m. that will begin a 25th anniversary celebration that will last through the first half of the year. Once again, congregants will be greeted by a bagpiper, and the Rev. Robert Culp will deliver a sermon hearkening back to the one delivered in the first service 25 years ago by then minister Walter Wagoner. One of the congregants who was there 25 years ago, and will be again this Sunday, is Helen Itin-O’Malley, a member of the church’s board of trustees as well as the chairwoman of the 25th Celebration Committee.

“It’s been wonderful to see the new families that have come in over the years and allowed the church to grow,” Ms. O’Malley told the Post Monday. “Those of us who have been here for 25 years remember the original spirit when we started this church. We went through so much to get here and everyone worked extremely hard to make it happen. I’ve seen many families come and see children grow from babies into young adults. It’s a real slice of life, and we have such a wonderful community here.”......

Claiming that the Washington state-based firm owes five elementary schools a collective $75,000, the Greenwich PTA Council is seeking action against Count Me In, Inc.

The Bellevue, Wash., company, a subsidiary of Arena Group, Inc., had been used by Parkway, Old Greenwich, North Mianus, Cos Cob and North Street schools to process registration for after-school clubs and activities sponsored by the PTAs.

Julie Faryniarz, president of the PTA Council, told the Post on Monday that the company offered parents the chance to register online for these after-school activities and also pay by credit card, which many parents preferred because it meant not having to send their kids to school with checks and not having to rely on them to remember to make the payment. The service was also used to register PTA members.

The company was then supposed to give the money to the schools running the clubs, while retaining a small processing fee, usually in the neighborhood of $3 per transaction. Ms. Faryniarz said the schools, with the exception of North Street, which started using Count Me In, Inc., this year, had been involved with the company for close to two years without any previous problems, but this year, when the after-school clubs started up again in September, the checks stopped coming

Now the PTA Council wants the schools’ money back and it has officially filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and the office of Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal. .....

......Mr. Blumenthal, a Greenwich resident, told the Post on Monday that his office would seek a “full and fair” reimbursement as quickly as possible. He said he had not been able to contact the company either and that if it had indeed filed for bankruptcy, that would be the main obstacle to getting the money back.

“We are investigating right now what happened to this money and how to get these PTAs what they are owed,” Mr. Blumenthal said. “We’re investigating to find out what my office can do to help them recover that money.”......

.....Alison Burns, co-president of the Parkway School PTA, said while no one had found any indication there was “foul play,” none of the parents are sure what happened and are eager for answers. She wondered if the company was simply a “victim of the bad economy.”

“Obviously everyone close to the situation is very upset about it,” Ms. Burns told the Post. “We’ve all been working together with PTA Council to try and recover our money. We’ve left no stone unturned.” ......

....However, no course of action has been set.

“Right now we’re just trying to figure out the best way to proceed,” Ms. Faryniarz said. “Hopefully, we will be able to find an attorney in Washington to do this for us pro bono, but that’s something we’ve only just begun to do. We’re looking at all the options right now to get our money back.”

Blumenthal: Count Out Count Me In
WFSB-TV Hartford

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Attorney General Richard Blumenthal issued an urgent warning Tuesday to parents and school groups against making payments to register their children for sports and other programs through Count Me In, a recently bankrupt company.

Count Me In, a Washington state-based company recently forced into Chapter 7 bankruptcy, has allegedly failed to transfer tens of thousands of dollars, and possibly more, to several Parent-Teacher Associations in Connecticut and organizations elsewhere, he said.

Blumenthal said he began an investigation after complaints from five PTAs in Greenwich that they were denied $75,000 collected in their name. They and other organizations contracted with CMI to administer registration for sports and other programs, police said.

Let The Record Show:

That Greenwich Roundup Was The First Connecticut News Outlet To Report That CMI was ripping off Greenwich School Parents.

Furthermore, weeks ago we were asking why the Greenwich PTA's had not contacted Blumenthal office and criticized the PTA's for hiding the $75,000 loss and not advising them to call their credit card company immediately reverse the charges.

KIROTV

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Parents and PTA leaders on Tuesday banged on the door of a Bellevue company that's at the center of a nationwide controversy after a KIRO 7 Eyewitness News story revealed the firm hasn't paid back money it owes to youth sports teams.

Dan Kully was among those looking for answers at the offices of Count Me In, a company that helps thousands of youth sports teams to help collect registration dues and donations.

"Seventy-five thousand dollars really hurts," Kully told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Gary Horcher. "And the last people that anyone should be taking advantage of are kids."

Kully's sister runs a PTA for 15 schools in Greenwich, Conn., that hired Count Me In to supply a Web site and process credit card donations. He said the PTAs discovered Count Me In appeared to be keeping all the parents' money -- $75,000.

LARCENY

Melissa Greco, 28, of Stamford was arrested Dec. 30 and charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit fifth degree larceny, two counts of fifth degree larceny, credit card theft, illegal use of a credit card, receipt of goods from a credit card, third degree identity theft and criminal impersonation. According to police, Greco and Annie Curtis, 26, of Darien conspired to steal $300 in cash and a credit card from an unattended purse in Greenwich Library’s lost and found. They allegedly divided the money and used the credit cards at two local businesses. Curtis was arrested on Dec. 18. Greco was released on a promise to appear and is due in court Jan. 6.

The woman was released on a $1,000 cash bond and is due in court Dec. 31.

POSSESSION

Enrique Goyburu, 21, of Port Chester, N.Y. was arrested possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and intent to sell under one kilogram of marijuana. Police on DUI patrol said they saw a Goyburu driving a car with one headlight out. Officers said when his car was pulled over, Goyburu smelled of burnt marijuana and when he was asked to step out of the car offices saw, in plain view, a plastic bag lying between in the driver’s side seat and the interior driver’s side door. Upon inspection, police found six clear plastic bags containing marijuana inside the plastic bag. Police searched the car and found a plastic zip bag containing 91 small, clear plastic bags in the trunk. Officers believed this was for sale, not use. The total weight of the marijuana was found to be 4.1 grams and police seized $76 in his possession. Goyburu was also cited for not having a license and driving without a headlight. He was released on a $1,000 cash bond and is due in court Jan. 6.
