Take shelter, be patient and stay off the roads.

Those words of advice came from Joseph Siciliano, director of Parks and Recreation, one of a number of town department leaders and emergency officials who met this morning to prepare for Tropical Storm Hanna’s impending hurricane-like descent on the Greenwich area.

Now Let's Here From Greenwich's

Real Emergency Manager

According to Daniel Warzoha, emergency operations management director, rains are expected to come to southwestern Connecticut between 2 and 8 a.m. tomorrow, producing one to two inches.

“There is also a good chance late morning through early afternoon that we will see partly cloudy, very humid conditions and rain and wind moving back into area around 6,” he said of Saturday’s weather.

The heaviest rain and wind is expected to be in the area, he added, from 9 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, unleashing four to six inches of rain in the area, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration forecast.

“This is all dependent on the storm track,” Mr. Warzoha said of Hanna’s anticipated weather, which may include inland wind speeds of 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

“We don’t anticipate this turning into a major flooding event at this time,” he added, saying that the flood threat is for urban areas and small streams.
Coastal wind speeds, Mr. Warzoha said, are expected to be about 40 mph, with gusts 50 mph and more.

By Sunday at 9 a.m., though, it’s expected to be “a beautiful, clear, sunny day,” Mr. Warzoha said.

The town’s Emergency Operations Center will be set up in the Town Hall Meeting Room tonight......
