The Greenwich Time Is A Newsosuar

The Greenwich Time Has Four Ownership Changes In The Last Twelve Years

Can You Really Trust Your Personal Data To The Money Losing Greenwich Time?

The new and most recent bankruptcy announcement by MediaNews Group parent Affiliated Media will be especially hard on the Greenwich Time's parent company, Hearst Inc.

MediaNews Group was the previous owner of the money losing Greenwich Time, before Hearst had to bail out Denver based newspaper owners.

The secretive Hearst corporation improbably put money into MediaNews, its direct competitor in northern California, in the hopes of reversing the almost continuous loses it has suffered since stepping up to buy the San Francisco Chronicle in 2000. Instead of fixing the long-festering problem, Hearst became not just the biggest loser among the equity investors in MediaNews. It will be the only one.

That's because MediaNews heads Singleton and Richard B. Scudder put any of their own money into the company That bought the money losing Greenwich Time and San Francisco Chronicle.

MediaNews partners like Gannett, Stephens Media and E.W. Scripps are also immune.

Only the secretive Hearst Corporation , it seems, actually put money into the operation that owned the Greenwich Time up until about a year and a half ago.

Misters Singleton and Scudder will, of course, lose net worth should their horde of stock be redistributed to bondholders.

Hearst's likely loss is a direct result of its hapless, and so far hopeless, effort to make good on the ill-fated acquisition of the San Francisco Chronicle.

After sinking the better part of $700 million into buying the San Francisco daily in a lengthy, painful and costly legal process that began in 2000, the secretive Hearst corporation has been forced since then to underwrite ongoing losses ranging as high as $1 million a week.

In addition to the estimated $1.2 billion Hearst has spent to date on buying and running the newspaper.

The Hearst Corporation now faces the loss of the $317 million that it invested in MediaNews in a complicated -- but subsequently scuttled -- effort to partner with MediaNews to work together and enter into some sort of operating partnership that included the money losing Greenwich Time.

For a variety of reasons, that never happened.

Now, just as Hearst Newspaper Editor David McCumber is touting the Greenwich Time's supposed new improvements, he fails to tell his readers that his company will be the one left holding the MediaNews bill.
The truth is that the Greenwich Time is desperate and money hungry.
