04/07/12 KABOOM!!! Explosive Fire In Greenwich

A Greenwich garage containing explosive materials caught fire tonight, destroying the structure.

The fire broke out on Lake Avenue just after 5 p.m. Firefighers say the garage contained gasoline, propane tanks, and possibly ammunition. The smoke could be seen from miles away.

No one was injured in the fire, but the garage was destroyed.

04/07/12 Police investigating suspicious person in Old Greenwich; man asked middle school boy to get in his car

The Greenwich Police are investigating a suspicious incident in which an older white male reportedly asked a middle school aged boy to get into his car in Old Greenwich.

On Friday, April 6 at approximately 5 p.m., five middle school boys were playing in a yard in Old Greenwich. One of the boys was approached by an unknown male in a vehicle who told him that he was there to pick him up and drive him home. The boy did not get into the vehicle and the man left the area, police said.

The vehicle is described as an older, dark colored large SUV, possibly a suburban or truck with a cab on the back...

04/05/12 Smoke Bomb Unleashed at Greenwich High

There was smoke in the eyes and throats of Greenwich High School students Thursday afternoon after someone launched a smoke bomb in the main entrance glass corridor as the 2,700 students were being dismissed for the spring break holiday.

"It was dismissal and students were evacuated. The Greenwich Fire Department responded because a fire alarm was pulled," Eves said.

In a country once home to as many as 15,000 Jews, Cuba's Jewish population is now down to an estimated 1,500. But with strong-willed leaders and financial assistance largely from Jews in North and South America, Cuba's Jewish community is hanging on. Why a Mission to Cuba? Temple Sholom will team up with The JDC (Joint Distribution Committee) for this mission. Since 1991, The JDC has helped to provide food and medicine to the Jewish community; organized a non-sectarian medical consultation and training program; and worked to reconnect the community to its Jewish roots through Sunday school classes, study groups, and communal holiday celebrations. Last year, Rabbi Mitch as well as several Temple Sholom congregants helped to fund the over 400 weekly Shabbat dinners provided to the Jewish Community in Cuba. It is Rabbi Mitch's goal to be able to support this critical program again this year. Because of missions like ours, the Cuban Jews are able to survive.
