11/05/11 Greenwich Ballet Academy to present family-friendly Nutcracker

Greenwich Ballet Academy proudly announces the addition of world-renowned ballet stars, Irina Dvorovenko and Maxim Beloserkovsky, to their family-friendly production of The Nutcracker on Saturday, December 17 and Sunday, December 18 at the Greenwich High School Theater. Yuri Vodolaga, Artistic Director at GBA, has created an abridged version of this holiday classic that features all of GBA’s students, as well as Ms.Dvorovenko and Mr. Beloserkovsky, in the roles of the Sugarplum Fairy and her Cavalier.

Ms. Dvorovenko and Mr. Beloserkovsky, Principal Dancers at American Ballet Theatre, will lead a Master Class for the students at Greenwich Ballet Academy, as well as assist in preparing the students for this year’s production. Mr. Vodolaga, explained, “This is a unique opportunity for our students to learn from the very best in their craft - not only the technical aspects of ballet, but also how to really perform on stage.”

Tina Volkwein, Chairwoman of the Board of GBA expressed her excitement, saying, “We hope that their presence will underscore the seriousness of our program and its quality. This will be one of the most important cultural events in Greenwich this year—not to be missed by anyone interested in the art of classical ballet!”

Ms. Dvorovenko and Mr. Beloserkovsky will be visiting Greenwich next month as the guests of honor at a fundraiser for Greenwich Ballet Academy. ‘A Russian Winter Evening’ will be held on Friday, November 4 from 7-10pm at a private home. The event will feature festive Russian delicacies and sweets and will give attendees the opportunity to interact with two of the best ballet dancers in the world.

Greenwich Police Nab Man Suspected in Mallard Drive Incidents Barbara Heins | Nov 4, 2011 | 0 Comments Information supplied by Greenwich Police and does not indicate guilt or conviction. A New Milford man has been arrested in connection with two incidents involving the attempted enticement of two teenage girls into a van. In one incident, an 18-year-old was groped, Greenwich Police said. James B. Magri, 27, of 3 Eden Ln., New Milford, surrendered Thursday to Greenwich Police who obtained an arrest warrant charging hime with 4th-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor, both felonies. Magri is accused of approaching a lone 18-year-old female walking on Mallard Drive while he was operating a white van, on Oct. 31. Magri was able to convince that female to get in his van, police said. Magri attempted to convince the female to engage in a consensual sex act but after being rebuffed, inappropriately touched the victim, according to police. "The victim thought she recognized him as someone she knew and got into the van. But she didn't," said police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray. "As she got out of the van, he grabbed her breast. He groped over her clothing ... it was non-consensual." The second incident happened on Nov. 2, a lone 14-year-old female walking on Mallard Drive was approached by a man operating a white van. Magri attempted to convince the girl to get in the van but "she told him forcefully, 'No,'" Gray said. The suspect left the area as the girl began to use her cell phone to call her mother for help, Gray said. According to Gray, "He left but he returned. She saw him two times." That girl was able to provide police with a better description of the white van belonging to a contracting company that was hired to work in the area, Gray said. Gray said that the driver "never made any threats to the victims. Nobody was physically injured." Both incidents occurred after 2 p.m., after school dismissals, Gray said. Gray said, "Five percent of sexual assaults are committed by a stranger. You have to be more vigilant to the ones who are closer to the family, who have the opportunity to take advantage. But everyone should remain vigilant at all times. You don't walk alone, especially in the dark or in a unfamiliar place." Magri was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Nov. 10 in state Superior Court in Stamford. Breaking News Alert Greenwich Police bust 'man in van' for groping incident. FRIDAY 1:22 PM Greenwich police have busted the man they believe is responsible for inappropriately touching a teenage girl this week. James Magri, 27, of New Milford, was arrested Thursday after turning himself in to police. He was charged with fourth degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor in connection with two incidents in town this week while driving around Mallard Drive in a white van. According to police, on Oct. 31, Mr. Magri was driving along Mallard and came across an 18-year-old female woman who was walking by herself. He allegedly convinced the young woman to get into his van and then tried to get her to engage in consensual sex. When she rebuffed this advance, police say Mr. Magri inappropriately touched her, but she was able to leave the van without further incident after that contact was made. Police Public Information Officer Lt. Kraig Gray told the Post that the woman initially got into the van because she mistook Mr. Magri for someone she knew and that once she realized she was mistaken he had begun to drive away and she was unable to immediately leave. Two days later, on Nov. 2, Mr. Magri was again driving on Mallard Drive and this time allegedly approached a 14-year-old girl who was walking on Mallard Drive. This time when he attempted to get the girl into the van, police say she refused and Mr. Magri fled the scene in the vehicle when she started to call for help with her cell phone. Lt. Gray said that Mr. Magri was working in the area for a local contractor and the white van was a company vehicle. He stressed that the company owner was “very cooperative” with the investigation and assisting police in identifying Mr. Magri. Lt. Gray said the investigation is ongoing to determine if there were any additional incidents. Mr. Magri was released on a $1,000 dollar bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on November 10.
