COS COB SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
ACCEPTS BROOKFIELD POSITION

(For immediate release: Greenwich, CT – Thursday, August 6, 2009) Cos Cob School Assistant Principal Mary Rose Dymond has accepted a position as Principal of Huckleberry Hill Elementary School, one of the Brookfield Public Schools, effective with the start of the school year.

Ms. Dymond has been the Assistant Principal at Cos Cob School since 2006 and over the last three years has been responsible for providing professional development for staff on numerous instructional strategies and practices. She has guided the staff in implementing the School Improvement Plan and has collaborated with and assisted Principal Kimberly Beck on executing whole school reform initiatives encompassing Social/Emotional Learning, Instructional Data Teams, and 21st Century Skills development.

Kimberly Beck said, “Mary Rose Dymond is one of the most intelligent, hard working, and dedicated professionals I have ever had the privilege to know. Throughout her tenure as an assistant principal, Mary Rose’s advocacy for the children, families, and staff of Cos Cob Elementary School has been exemplary. We have been working together as the administrative team for the past two years. Consequently, it is with a great sense of loss that we wish her well in her new position. "

Prior to her appointment at Cos Cob School, Ms. Dymond served as Interim Assistant Principal at North Street School for part of the 2005-2006 school year. As a teacher with Hamilton Avenue School (HAS) from 2001 to 2006, she also held leadership positions, including Director of the HAS Academy of Learners and Administrative Intern.

Ms. Dymond developed and implemented the Academy of Learners program at HAS, an after-school program designed to boost student achievement. As an administrative intern, she chaired the Hamilton Avenue Modular Construction/Transition Committee in 2004-05, working with building administrators to oversee the move from the old Hamilton Avenue School building to the new modular classroom on the grounds of Western Middle School in the spring of 2004.

In her eight years as a member of the Greenwich Public Schools staff, Ms. Dymond has demonstrated a commitment to advancing professional/instructional practices and strategies in the service of improving achievement for all students. GREENWICH CHAMBER LAUNCHES MAJOR FUNDRAISER:
“GREENWICH HAS GOT TALENT” VARIETY SHOW

The Greenwich Chamber of Commerce has announced that its major fundraiser, Greenwich Has Got Talent, a variety show, will be held October 16-17. Area talent will be showcased as part of this family friendly event and will feature both adults and youngsters performing anything from songs and dance to comedy and magic.

“Greenwich has talent and the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce is pleased to showcase the known and unknown talent within this fine community,” said Mary Ann Morrison, President of the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will go toward funding a scholarship for a Greenwich High School student who will be majoring in Business in college. The fundraiser is being chaired by Leah Mattoni, Jeff Weber and Scott Weiner, all of whom are local business owners or managers in Greenwich and who also serve on the Chamber board of directors.

“We are so excited about ‘Greenwich Has Got Talent’ and are confident it will be an event that will be so successful, it will grow each year and be a major revenue generator for the Greenwich Chamber, ” said Weber.

The co-chairs also announced the appointment of Greenwich resident Maria Kelly Stevens as Producer/Director of the variety show. She most recently choreographed the highly successful 2009 Central Middle School production of “Grease”.

Prior to that she is best known to the community through her involvement with St. Catherine’s Players. She was a founding board member and served as choreographer for over 26 productions working with ages 6-60. Locally, Maria has choreographed/directed for Greenwich County Day School, The Grace Notes, Summer Youth Festival, numerous nursery and elementary productions, the YWCA and Kids in Crisis. She has taught master classes at SUNY Purchase and has conducted classes/workshops both in Greenwich and New York.

She has a dance education background but has performed professionally throughout her career.
She has trained extensively with many dance/theatre legends in NYC and California and has performed in off-Broadway, summer stock, regional theatre, television and commercials.

Casting calls for the show will be held beginning later this month and will be announced within the next several days.
