A Greenwich man hired for $15 per hour to help with a basement cleanup in October was arrested for stealing gold and silver coins from the homeowner. Michael Verdon , 23, of Armstrong Court, was arraigned Tuesday at the Stamford courthouse on a charge of second-degree larceny and held in lieu of a $5,000 court appearance bond.

A Greenwich Police officer assigned to the holiday weekend to the driving under the influence enforcement detail was injured after a driver crashed into a police SUV that was parked in the Byram neighborhood looking for impaired drivers, according to police. Post Office to open 2 Sundays in December

Some area post offices will be open on Sunday, Dec. 7, and Sunday, Dec. 14, from 1 to 4 p.m. Offices include: Danbury, 23 Backus Ave.; Fairfield, 357 Commerce Drive; Greenwich, 29 Valley Drive; Milford, 300 Pepes Farm Road; Monroe, 270 Monroe Turnpike; Westport, 275 Post Road E. For the next two Sundays several area U.S. Postal Service offices will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. All types of retail business, including buying money orders, renting postal boxes and applying for passports can be conducted, in addition to mailing items, said Christine Dugas , a USPS spokesperson. "We've seen a double digit increase in the number of packages mailed this year," she said.

Jessie Ford, 92; Mother of Greenwich Resident

Jessie Ford, of Highams Park, London, England, died peacefully surrounded by her family at Greenwich Hospital after battling a short illness, November 22, 2014 at the age of 92. Born in Chilton, County Durham, England on December 1, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Cockburn . She was the widow of Denis Arthur Ford whom she met while both were serving in the British Army in the north of England during World War II and they shared 40 wonderful years together in London until his passing in 1987.

Armstrong Court Renovation Plan Won't Include Senior Housing

Plans to build apartments for senior citizens at the Armstrong Court public housing complex have been scrapped by the Greenwich Housing Authority. The Housing Authority made the announcement at the Nov. 19 Board of Selectmen's meeting where the three-member board approved a municipal improvement status for the authority's proposal to renovate and expand the complex.

The Greenwich Planning and Zoning Commission agreed this week to extend its moratorium for another year on applications for marijuana related businesses, Greenwich Time reports. Police have arrested one of two men suspected of grabbing $50,000 worth of fur coats from a high-end clothing shop on Wednesday in Greenwich, Connecticut, and then speeding off in a getaway car to New York.
