Why Aren't The Local Greenwich Time Reporters Filing Reports On This Breaking News Story? The Greenwich Police And Fire Department had many calls from concerned town residents. The police or fire departments did not respond to any calls for help. Greenwich Hospital Facilities Department did a walk through of the healthcare complex to make sure there was no damage. No serious problems were found. The Westchester County Airport on the Greenwich border reported no problems at the airport. Incoming and outgoing flights are taking off as scheduled. The airport was fully operational. A full inspection of the airport was conducted and no damage was found. Nathaniel Witherell nursing home felt vibrations for about five seconds. There was brief an interruption in some communications equipment. There was no apparent damage to the nursing home. GREENWICH OFFICIALS AND UTILITIES SURVEY DAMAGE The earthquake felt throughout Greenwich left no apparent damage to gas lines, water mains or other major structures in town, Greenwich officials are encouraging residents to call in reports of damage and said some subtle damage to certain structures is possible. The U.S. Geological Survey, asked anyone who felt the quake to report it via the agency's website. It also asked for reports of damage. A 5.9-magnitude earthquake with an epicenter in northern Virginia sent tremors throughout the east coast Tuesday afternoon, including all of Connecticut.
Stories of tremors shaking and evacuating buildings and public safety officials urging caution quickly went viral on Twitter, and just about everyone from Greenwich to Danbury, from Stamford to the Valley, felt the impact.
