Two Greenwich men were arrested early Monday by Port Cheser, NY police officers on STOP-DWI details after the Superbowl.
At 1:21 a.m., an officer saw a man in a gray Mercedes turning the wrong way on Marvin Place, a one-way street. Diego Luna, 24, of Cos Cob, told police he had two beers in Stamford and was headed to Costco in Port Chester. (The store was closed at the time and Luna had driven past it.) Before he was given a blood alcohol test, Luna amended his earlier statement and told police he'd consumed eight beers, according to police. He was charged with misdemeanor DWI and was ticketed for driving in the wrong direction on a one-way street.
At 2:15 a.m., an officer driving on South Main Street saw a white GMC Suburban in traffic without headlights. The driver, 53-year-old John Peter Salerno of Greenwich, admitted he'd consumed a few beers, Lt. James Ladeairous said. Salerno's blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, according to police, who charged him with aggravated driving while intoxicated.
