For Immediate Release 28 Debutantes – 28 Years!
Greenwich, CT – Twenty eight young ladies from the area made their debut on Saturday, June 17 at the 28th Greenwich Cotillion sponsored by the Junior League of Greenwich, CT. The event was held at the historic Tomes-Higgins House in Greenwich, CT. The lovely tented grounds and beautifully restored house provided the perfect backdrop for the elegant debutantes and their guests. This special evening gathered family and friends to honor tradition, community service and a rite of passage.
It was a true family affair with all ages enjoying dancing and dining. The renowned New York society band The Bob Hardwick Sound serenaded the debutantes and their guests to the music of George Frideric Handel and a selection of waltzes. Joe Jenkins of Le Potager of Stamford, CT created a delicious menu of savory flavors and a festive dessert of individual key lime calypso and lace tuilles.
Flowers by George of Greenwich, CT provided stunning floral arrangements in lovely shades of blue, pink and white. The debutantes carried tightly bound bouquets of pink peonies.
Outgoing Junior League of Greenwich President, Katey O’Leary welcomed the 400 guests and commended the debutantes for their commitment to community service through voluntarism. In the spring, the young ladies experienced “An Afternoon at the League” held at the Junior League Headquarters on East Putnam Avenue. There they participated in a training session similar to one they might experience as Junior League members.
This year’s master of ceremony was Mr. David Ogilvy. Wendy Duryea and Anne Maletta co-chaired the event.
The Junior League of Greenwich is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through
the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
The young ladies who made their debut are listed on the following pages with their high schools and colleges.
