Presents Dr. Henry Kissinger

Friday, November 4
12-2 p.m.
Hyatt Regency
Old Greenwich, CT

How Will China's Surging Economy Impact the U.S.?
China’s rapid rise from poverty-stricken nation to a global economic powerhouse is considered by many to be one of the greatest success stories in modern times.
Although increased trade relations with China have positively influenced the United States’ financial picture, most analysts believe China has the strength to overtake the U.S. as the world’s largest economy within 20 years.

Dr. Henry Kissinger -- who recently returned from his 40th trip to China -- will discuss his new book On China, and share his expert perspective on the global impact of China’s emerging economy on Friday, November 4. His remarks will be the centerpiece of a luncheon benefitting Family Centers at 12 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency in Old Greenwich.

Dr. Kissinger is widely recognized as the foremost authority on Chinese culture and economic strategy. He served as Secretary of State from 1973-1977 under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. While in office, Kissinger played a dominant role in United States foreign policy, having pioneered détente with the Soviet Union and orchestrated the opening of diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. In 1973, Kissinger was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating the Paris Peace Accords and ending the Vietnam War.

09/30/11 Team Himes: Tonight Is Crucial

reelect

Dear Friends,

Tonight, at midnight, this crucial financial reporting period will end for Jim’s campaign. Republicans nationally and locally will take a look at this district to determine if they can pick up CT-4 in next fall’s elections. The right-wing has been working hard to show that there is no room for moderation and compromise in Congress--we think they are wrong.

Help us show that independent thinking is not dead in Washington.

Click HERE to make a contribution to Jim’s campaign today.

This week, The New York Times ran a profile of Jim in the Business section highlighting how valuable Jim’s background has proven in Congress. The article said:

Shortly after he beat out the incumbent, Christopher Shays, to win the seat, his expertise landed him a plum assignment on the House Financial Services Committee, where he helped write the House version of the Dodd-Frank Act, the financial regulatory overhaul.

Christopher S. Murphy, a fellow Connecticut Democrat, recalled seeing Mr. Himes giving impromptu economics lessons on the House floor during debates over the contentious bill. “There was always a crowd around Jim,” Mr. Murphy recalled. “He very quickly became a safe harbor for moderate members who wanted to make sure we corrected the abuses of Wall Street without killing the markets.”

We need more representation in Washington like Jim’s, not less. Help us make this filing decisive by clicking HERE and making a contribution before midnight tonight.

Thank you for your support!
Team Himes

www.greenwichtime.com/.../Blankley-would-restore-transpare...

To the editor:

It is time to restore transparency and competent leadership to Greenwich town government. Nowhere is that need greater than in our town's continued failure to make public its emergency planning and response, as your columnist Bob Horton detailed in an excellent series of articles on the subject. First Selectman Peter Tesei has demonstrably failed that test of leadership. During the latest storms, Mr. Tesei has insisted on maintaining an undue level of secrecy surrounding these plans, which have left countless residents in the dark wondering who's in charge and what services will or won't be delivered.

As Mr. Horton wrote, it is "folly...having a public official dedicated to directing the town's emergency response and then deciding to keep it a secret from the people it is designed to protect (and who paid for it)."

My vote this November will go to first selectman candidate John Blankley. John has over 40 years of top flight business experience in major public companies, and his working in the world of public company disclosure insures that Greenwich town government will see a return to transparency and competence that has been so sorely lacking. Please join me in voting for John Blankley.

William Gaston
