08/15/08 This Former Greenwich Resident Is Really Creepy !!!!

The Con Man Suspected Of Murder's favorite movie was "Double Indemnity" - in which two lovers plot to kill her husband for the insurance money.

Haunted by Mockefeller Favorite Film

New York Post

By LUKAS I. ALPERT

The phony Rockefeller eyed in the disappearance of a California couple 23 years ago once said his favorite movie was "Double Indemnity" - in which two lovers plot to kill her husband for the insurance.

Clark Rockefeller, a k a Christopher Chichester in 1985, claimed to be trying to break into the film business when he lived on the same San Marino, Calif., property as John and Linda Sohus, who went missing that year.

"He made a big point that he wanted to go see 'Double Indemnity,' " friend Dana Farrar told The Boston Globe.

Nine years after the Sohuses vanished, a male skeleton was found on the property and dried blood in the guesthouse, where Chichester stayed.

Lawyer Stephen Hrones claims Rockefeller had nothing to do with the disappearance, but Rockefeller was pulled over in the couple's truck years later in Greenwich, Conn.....

When the scores came in earlier this summer from the 2008 Connecticut Mastery Tests (CMT) taken by the district's third through eighth graders and from the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) taken by 10th graders, administration officials and school principals had mixed reactions to the results.

At the high school level, math scores showed improvement and writing scores reached five-year highs, but reading scores reached five-year lows.

Science scores also declined significantly as they have reportedly the last 10 years....

CAPASSO BLAMES THE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS FOR HIS LACK OF LEADERSHIP AND HIS ADMINISTRATIVE FAILURES...

....Mention how Westport students scored impressively higher this year on their CAPT scores than Greenwich, Capasso remarked on how "the makeup of their student body is significantly different."....

....Factors affecting the decline of science scores - a drop from 61.8 to 53.2 (state average of 44.5), included the turnover of teachers.

"Seventy-five percent of the faculty was hired over the last three years," he said. "Science teachers have to become familiar with the curriculum, and some are new to teaching." Teachers were "better in their fifth year than in their first or second."....

...An added challenge with science is finding teachers. "They do better salary-wise in business, with pharmaceutical companies and medical providers," he said....

John Curtin, assistant superintendent of research and evaluation for the district provides a bunch of failed administrative mumbo jumbo....

...."It's a new way of looking at test scores for growth rather than performance," he said. The results were just in and he said, "The amount of growth kids are making in Greenwich public schools is at the level of or exceeding the top performing schools in the state. We're moving them ahead as far as we can."...

...Regarding the five-year-low reading scores, Curtin found it as perplexing as Capasso. "We're having trouble understanding that; is it boys rather than girls?" he asked. "We're working on that."

Regarding the "10-year consistently low science results, we need to take a more systematic look at this."....

John Curtin, assistant superintendent of research and evaluation for the district indicates that he is a failed administrator who is in over his head....

....He called himself "as committed as the next person," but in Greenwich "the Board (of Education) has set the bar very high.

"The challenge," he said, "is how do we close the gap with that bar and where we are?"....

Maybe we should just fire Capasso and Curtin and get educational leaders who can handle the job.

Out Of Town Letters to the Editor From The Republican Machine

Still Awaiting Reply From Himes Campaign

To the Editor:

Almost two weeks ago, I attended the last leg of Jim Himes' tour of 17 cities in 17 days at the downtown location of the Ferguson Library here in Stamford. Curious to learn more about Congressman Shays' challenger, I was pleased to see him appearing eager to take questions from those present.

However, when I finally got a chance to ask whether he might qualify his statement made just that weekend about Shays "voting with his party only when it matters," I must confess that I was met with behavior unbecoming of a politician; given Shays' record as a "maverick" and his well-publicized positions on abortion, stem cell research, SCHIP and any number of other issues, my surprise at this initial remark was not unwarranted.

Yet a visibly agitated Himes gave me his word that 90 percent of Shays' votes are with his party, and that, with the assistance of a Rhodes Scholar, the Himes camp crunched numbers proving that Shays is really entirely partisan, straying only on "skewed" votes when it "doesn't matter" if he sticks to the GOP trend.

With over 20 years of experience under his belt, Christopher Shays has built a reputation for himself as a maverick Republican, the only member of the party still in Congress from the Northeast. He is a beacon of pride not just for his party, but for his fellow countrymen, on the whole, and I would like to believe that he has earned my respect by voting with his moral conscience rather than by playing a numbers game.

What disappoints me most is that, after Himes publicly insisted that I stay behind to speak with him more about Congressman Shays' supposedly crooked voting record, I was left to speak with his staffers. Though he claimed that he, personally, could show me this data, all bravado was cast aside when nobody on his staff was able to produce any of those numbers. Still, I left my contact info, looking to satisfy my curiosity.

I have waited all of this time in hope that they would reveal their calculations, or at least put me in touch with the scholar whose approval they garnered. Despite repeated attempts to get this information, Jim Himes' campaign has failed to reply to me in any fashion.

It is in consequence that I write you, reaffirming what I know best: that unlike his challenger, when Chris Shays says something is going to be done, he does it, and I can trust that it will be done with a good head and a great heart. There is no strategy that has kept him around all these years beyond a trust in fundamental human decency. I look forward to preserving the respectability of our district by supporting our congressman this coming November.

08/15/08 Greenwich Post Headlines For Friday

Mosquitoes with West Nile Virus raise concern

The State of Connecticut Mosquito Management Program notified Greenwich health officials earlier this week that pools of mosquitoes trapped in Greenwich in the beginning of August have tested positive for West Nile Virus. These mosquitoes are in addition to the first positive mosquitoes identified by the Connecticut Agriculture Experiment Station in Greenwich in mid-July, and come from two other testing locations.

Two new vendors join Farmers’ Market

Thinking about steamed clams with fresh herbs, and just-picked corn?

Two new vendors have joined the Greenwich Farmers’ Market held on Saturdays from 9:30 to 1 in the Commuter Lot on Arch Street and Horseneck Lane.

Nancy Moore, of Moorefield Herb Farm in Trumbull, began her business more than 30 years ago. A former high school English teacher, Ms. Moore speaks on herbs and herb gardening to a variety of garden and church groups, as well library groups. Shoppers are welcome to stop by and speak with her about culinary questions or other queries about herbs. Pick up a kitchen herb garden to enhance your dinner menus.

Clams are available from Pepe’s Cream of the Crop, LLC. The clams are farmed fresh on Friday afternoon to be sold on Saturday at the Farmers’ Market. All grounds are tested by Dave Carey from the Department of Aquaculture in Milford, to ensure clean waters. “We don’t sell what we won’t eat,” is their motto.

The Greenwich Farmers’ Market now has 13 vendors every week. The offerings vary according to the growing season, but you can be sure to arrive home with fresh vegetables and fruit, lamb products, cheeses, baked goods, jams, preserves and condiments, honey, herb plants and a bouquet of roses.

Riccio named assistant principal of Parkway

Acting Superintendent Kathleen C. Greider appointed Barbara Riccio as assistant principal of Parkway School.

Ms. Riccio, appointed to her new position on July 1, is currently a program evaluator and staff development coach for the Greenwich Public Schools’ Community Preschool Program. She is an experienced teacher and administrator in preschool, elementary and special education and has worked for the Greenwich Public Schools for 12 years.

“With the district’s focus on instructional leadership, we are fortunate to have Ms. Riccio join our administrative ranks, as she brings with her a strong background in research-based instructional best practices and staff development,” Ms. Greider said.

08/15/08 FBI confirms former Greenwich Residents identity

The FBI confirmed today that mystery man and former Greenwich resident Clark Rockefeller’s true identity is Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter.

HEADLINE:

THIS IS THE MOST INTERESTING GREENWICH STORY THAT REMINDS ONE OF THE MOVIE "CATCH ME IF YOU CAN", EXCEPT THERE IS A MURDER

GREENWICH RESIDENTS HAVE BEEN WATCHING AND WAITING FOR THE GREENWICH TIME TO COVER THE LOCAL ANGLE SINCE SINCE THIS STORY BEGAN TO UNRAVEL.

CHRISTIAN KARL GERHARTSREITER PLAYS SHIRADES WITH POLICE DETECTIVES AS THE GREENWICH TIME FAILS TO FIND OUT THE FACTS AND REPORT THEM TO THE CITIZENS OF THE GREENWICH AND THE WORLD

THE STORY:

FBI confirms former Greenwich resident's identity

FBI and Boston law enforcement authorities announced today they lifted a 27-year-old fingerprint off an aging immigration document to prove that Boston’s mystery man, Clark Rockefeller, is "the center of the largest con" they’ve ever seen.

His confirmed identity is Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, born in West Germany in 1961.

Investigators used a total of four fingerprints - one recently taken from a wine glass in Boston, two from his recent police booking in Baltimore and Boston, and one off of an immigration document Gerhartsreiter was required to fill out as a teen 27-years ago when he came over to America as a foreign exchange student.

By matching the major case prints Boston police took from this suspect 10 days ago to a piece of paper he touched 27 years earlier, the FBI’s fingerprint technicians brought science to bear where mere suspicion had prevailed," said Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley.

Gerhartsreiter, who used the aliases Clark Rockefeller, Chris C. Crowe, Chris Chichester, Charles Smith and Chip Smith, according to the FBI, allegedly kidnapped his 7-year-old daughter, Reigh “Snooks” Storrow Mills Boss, from a Back Bay street on July 27, touching off an Amber Alert and eventually raising questions about how he apparently faked a series of identities, from filmmaker to luxury ship captain to physicist - over the last three decades throughout the nation.

He is being held on charges of kidnapping and assault as authorities in California have named him as a person of interest in the San Marino, Calif. disappearance and presumed murders of a newlywed couple in 1985.

02/07/08 - School Parents Are Having To Suffer Incompetent School Administration Fools

When is the never ending fiasco of the
Hamilton Avenue school contruction project going to come to an end.

Everyone knows that Hamilton Avenue School is not going to be finished in for use in the fall.

Hamilton Avenue children are going to be forced to spend yet another year in the leaky modular classrooms.

School Administrators have allowed this school construction project to go from bad to worse to a totally incompetent failure.

Day after day Hamilton Avenue parents are forced to wait for a school that is way behind schedule and has suffered one design flaw after another.

Greenwich taxpayers are repeatedly forced to pay through the nose for this hopelessly over budget school project.

This school construction management disaster was voted an additional half a million dollars by the BET and the RTM last year.

The school administrators promised that this would fix Hamilton Avenue School once and for all and the school would soon open.

Last month, Greenwich taxpayers forced to shell out another half a million bucks or the failed construction project will come to a "grinding halt."

Hello, the failed Hamilton Avenue School appears to already at a halt.

Has anyone seen any substaintial progress at the construction site?

Once again, Betty Sternberg, the Greenwich Superintendent and her horde of incompetent administrators, will most likely continue lying to the taxpayers of Greenwich and promise that there will be no further delays.

Betty's "Everything Is Under Control" speeches are beginning to sound like finger nails on a chalk board.

Does anyone think that the very high paid Sternberg
have any credibility what-so-ever?

Almost everyone is starting recognize that Sternberg's has a pitiful record of dismal failure and non-accomplishment.

Unfortunately, Hamilton Avenue Scholl will continue to be a hideous boondoggle, that will be followed by another hideous boondoggle at Glenville School.

....But the most important question before us now is, what happens from here?

Specifically, what is in store for Glenville students and their families? A $24 million project there is designed to fix problems with air quality, open classrooms, a leaky roof and other issues....

...But for the sake of Glenville students and parents, we certainly hope they learned much fromthe Hamilton Avenue experience. Same goes for the school system and town.

Oversight of the Glenville project must be more direct and aggressive that it's been at Hamilton Avenue. Much more. The school administration and town need to take a direct supervisory role in the Glenville project, visiting the site daily if needed.

What has happened at Hamilton Avenue School cannot be allowed to happen again.

Gonzalez fails to make cut for Boston Library

By Colin Gustafson, who can be reached at colin.gustafson@scni.com or at (203) 625-4428

After making the short-list of candidates vying for the vaunted job of Boston Public Library President, the former director of Greenwich Library, Mario Gonzalez, failed to clinch the top spot Thursday.

Gonzalez was one of four finalists, winnowed down from a pool of about 160, to be interviewed yesterday by the 14-member committee tasked with choosing the next president of the Boston library.

That library system boasts the largest circulation in New England, trailed closely by Greenwich Library, which has the second-largest, with more than 1.4 million items in circulation....

...In a town-commissioned report last year, a group of 24 of the library's 180 employees said they viewed Gonzalez as dictatorial, controlling and bullying. The report, obtained by Greenwich Time through the Freedom of Information Act, painted the library as a dysfunctional place where workers sometimes felt alienated.

Asked if he thought the employees' complaints had swayed the search committee, Gonzalez noted that the town-commissioned report had been released more than a year ago, and that he'd subsequently taken steps to boost morale among staff members....

...Gonzalez, who aspired to become a NASA engineer, switched career paths after a stint working at the New York Public Library as a page. In his 30-year career, Gonzalez also served as director of programs and services at the Houston library and worked as deputy director for the Brooklyn Public Library before coming to Greenwich.

The Greenwich Library Board of Trustees, meanwhile, has formed a search committee to find a successor to Gonzalez, whose deputy director, Barbara Ormerod-Glynn, is serving as acting director.

The Greenwich library has hired the headhunting firm Gossage Sager Associates to help with the search and is soliciting applications online, said Jenny Baldock, chair of the library's search committee. She expects the committee to name a new president by Jan. 1, 2009....

Vigilance urged on West Nile
By Meredith Blake, who can be reached at meredith.blake@scni.com or at (203) 625-4434.

With mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile virus throughout the town, health officials are urging residents to be vigilant.

The town health department has posted information at parks, nursing homes and elsewhere about the risk of West Nile virus and measures residents can take to protect themselves, according to Caroline Calderone-Baisley, director of the town health department....

...ne of the reasons the town does not spray is that the chemicals used to kill the mosquitoes are considered pesticides.

"People don't like to be exposed to pesticides unnecessarily, and they shouldn't be," Calderone-Baisley said.

Health department officials believe that if residents take the necessary precautions, then the virus can be contained, Calderone- Baisley said.

Residents should use mosquito repellent and wear shoes, socks and long pants. They should avoid sleeping outdoors, and when returning indoors, wash any treated skin.

Also, officials advise residents to clear yards of old tires, fill in any drains or gutters and cover trash containers or other containers that could hold water the mosquitos can breed in.

Police Blotter

A Byram man who was allegedly involved in a fight at the Wilbur Peck Court public housing complex on June 19 was arrested by warrant Tuesday night at the St. Catherine of Siena Church annual carnival in Riverside, according to a police report.

Miles Thompson, 19, of 318 Delavan Ave., was charged with third-degree assault, criminal trespass and second-degree breach of peace, the report said.

He was released on $500 cash bond and scheduled to appear Aug. 20 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

***************************************

An Old Greenwich man who allegedly punched a town employee at Greenwich Point Park during a dispute over the closing hours at the beach on April 26 turned himself in to police Tuesday morning after learning of an outstanding warrant for his arrest, according to a police report.

Gary Wilson, 53, of 12 Irvine Road, was charged with second-degree breach of peace, the report said.

He was released on $250 cash bond and scheduled to appear Aug. 19 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

**************************************

An 18-year-old from Greenwich was arrested by warrant Tuesday morning on one count each of first and second-degree failure to appear in court, according to a police report.

The charges stemmed from two separate arrests on drug charges on Dec. 12, 2006, and April 10, 2007, the report said.

The person, whose name was withheld by police because he was under 18 at the time of both incidents, originally was arrested for marijuana possession and other drug-related charges.

He was released on his own recognizance and scheduled to appear Aug. 19 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Energetic plug for Chris Shays

To the Greenwich Time editor:

On July 30, lawmakers voted to adjourn the House of Representatives for five weeks in August and September.

U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays voted in opposition to the recess, basing his decision on the fact that energy costs are currently too high and demand immediate action.

Shays has taken the helm on energy costs, co-sponsoring the Energy for Our Future Act, a comprehensive bipartisan energy reform package to reduce our dependency on foreign oil and promote energy conservation.

Other incumbents are only too happy to spend an additional five weeks campaigning in their districts. By voting against the five-week recess, Shays, once again, shows us how he puts the needs of his constituents ahead of personal concerns.

Justine Buckle

Weston

Energetic pan of Democrats

To the Greenwich Time editor:

Recently, Nancy Pelosi literally shut down the Capitol building to prevent the house from holding a vote on U.S. energy policy, a vote the Republicans, following the will of the U.S. people, would have won, hands down.

The United States has suffered mightily from a lack of any cogent energy policy, despite the efforts by George Bush and the Republicans. For the last two generations the Democratic "solutions" to our energy situation has been: Disallow any new nuclear power plants or new oil refineries to be built and any drilling off the coasts, in Alaska or in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Blame the high oil prices on the Republicans (if could not posssibly be the increase in demand from China and India coupled with the restricted supply; see above). Make up a bunch of fantasy "solutions" that make the uninformed feel good but are impossible to implement. And, finally, blame that on the Republicans again.

It is time to demand some responsible action from Congress to allow the development of our huge energy recourses to increase our independence from imported oil, create employment and drive revenues.

George Skakel
