06/08/10 More On The The Ham Ave PTA

Hamilton Avenue Parents Need To Turn Out
And Vote For Their Children's Future

Dear Sir,

Your information is so on the money with regard to the underhanded election for the Hamilton Avenue School PTA Board.

I also agree that the parents have the right to go to the press or wherever else they wish to try to get the answers.

The election meeting is the 16th, you and the town's other media outlets might want to try to come and see for yourself how the current board is trying to hand pick their replacements.

I also understand that the state PTA will be there, too.

Name Withheld By Request

COMMENT:

You should video tape this public meeting that will be held in a public building.

Greenwich Roundup would love to post the video of the PTA elections right here.

it's obviously rational to avoid taxation when possible, and this is why governments need to take heed when designing tax regimes. Individuals will do what they can to avoid paying, either by reducing the taxed behaviour or acting to take advantage of loopholes. And the rich will be best able to do this.

But let's be honest for a moment, Mr Lampert is worth $3 billion. If he earns just 1% per year on that fortune—and he certainly earns much more—then he takes home $30 million in income. Per year. That's 600 times the median household income in America. It's more money than a person can reasonably spend. With that much money you can binge every day, and yet the money will just keep accumulating.

And yet Mr Lampert feels he needs to take special steps to avoid paying the regular income tax rate for individuals in the highest tax bracket, which begins at around $373,000.....

06/08/10 More Comments About Where Are The 59,000 Harborfest Bucks That Were Secretly Paid Out

Dear Greenwich Round Up

I had no intention of responding to the post regarding Harborfest, however, now that my name has been brought into the equation I felt I had no choice.

I will not attack Bob Mcintyre. Bob put his whole heart and soul into this event. His intentions were in all the right places and his goals were not just about money.

As Bob stated, many times, his first goal was to bring the Ham Ave Community back together, with raising funds secondary.

Bob accomplished that first goal in a big way. It was nothing short of a miracle that he was able to assemble an army of volunteers to see Harborfest come to fruition.

Were there mistakes made, probably. The first time for any event is always more of a learning experience than anything else.

Yes, Bob Mcintyre spent a year or better planning this event. One of this magnitude warrants nothing less. I find no fault, whatsoever, with this amount of time being spent planning it, I'm actually in awe that so much was accomplished in so little time, on a VOLUNTEER basis.

The events that Bob planned, those referred to as "VIP" events, were to appeal to a broader base of Greenwich residents, those not necessarily into ferris wheels and fun houses.

Hamilton Avenue School students are not "poor". They may not be in the upper levels of income, however, they are rich in family, community and commitment, as evidenced by the first goal of Harborfest.

At the May 19th PTA Meeting, it was shared that Harborfest brought in
$53,000, not $59,000 and that after expenses submitted to that date, the bottom line was $0.

Is it disappointing that this wasn't the big fundraiser we all hoped it would be?

Of course, it would have been wonderful had it been, but it wasn't, so what has been learned?

Do I believe that some things could have been accomplished on a lesser scale?

Yes, but as I said before this was a huge learning experience for our community. Should changes occur for next year? Absolutely, as they do with any major event.

My biggest concern for next year, is that there be more oversight, fiscally.

There needs to be a bigger committee with more input from the community on better ways of spending the funds to produce such an amazing venue. Better use of contacts would go a long way in keeping the spending under control and more manageable for this small PTA.

I believe there needs to be more reporting to the community on expenses as the planning evolves, which is where I believe this discontent stems from.

I would hope that all the figures have been forwarded to the PTA Leadership.

Harborfest 2010 has been over for a while now, a report of expenses and income should have been shared with the community by this point. By not doing so, it makes people question and wonder exactly what took place and further promotes this sense of distrust and lack of transparency.

I believe that the PTA Leadership is responsible for sharing the final financial report of this event, not the VP or Treasurer.

As to where Mina Bibeault is, her children no longer attend Ham Ave.

As for Steve Anderson, I do not believe, although I may be wrong, that he was even in town during Harborfest.

That being said, Harborfest 2010, was solely the child of the Ham Ave PTA and as far as I understand it, the BOE has nothing to do with school fundraising on an individual PTA basis.

Again, this being a PTA event, I am not sure what Mrs. Riccio or Dr. Cline have to do with the community not knowing everything there is to know about Harorfest 2010.

As to parents contacting Attorney General Blumenthal, it seems that a number of steps have been skipped.

Shouldn't the first questions be publicly asked of the Ham Ave PTA Leadership?

Then, if no response, Greenwich PTA Council, State PTA then National PTA?

The proper process should be followed and I am not sure what could be accomplished by jumping so far up the chain.

Laura DiBella

COMMENT:

Dear Ms, DiBella,

All of your points are well taken, but it doesn't address the problem of transparency.

Why wont the Ham Avenue PTA Release a list of who got paid how much?

Many parents say they have been treated rudely or ostracized for asking simple questions.

Some parents have even said that the Ham Ave PTA lost money on this Fancy Nancy Harborfest and that parents are going to have to make up the difference next year.

Greenwich Board Of Education Chairman Steve Anderson should step in if the Hamilton Avenue PTA continues to refuse to give a detailed accounting of the $59,000 to the affected parents.

Hamilton Avenue School principal Barbara Riccio needs to tell the PTA leaders that they must be transparent and not ostrisize families who have honest questions about their child's school.

Dr. Deborah Cline, is the teacher leader has an obligation to tell the Ham Ave President, Vice President and Tresurer that The T in PTA stands for teachers who want transparency and accountability for Hamilton Avenue School families.

Lastly, parents are entitled to go to CT State Authorities or the media anytime that the Hamilton Avenue President, Vice President and Treasurer are not being transparent in an organization that they are dues paying members.

If you are right and Bob Macintyre's hands are 100% clean in this, then he should just release a list of who got paid what?

Mr. Macintyre can put and end to the rumor mill today, by sending a detailed report of who got paid what to GreenwichRoundup@gmail.com

There is nothing to be gained by denying parents access to public information.

The parents are going to eventually find out the truth anyway.

Aixa (Alex) Capozza, Terry Moore and Tracy Caruso are causing all of the rumors and possible state investigations by not running a transparent PTA organization.

Let's see if the Hamilton Avenue PTA Leadership releases a detailed report of who got paid what or if they try and pass off a generalized report that gives no details.

Lastly, parents tell Greenwich Roundup that they can't even get on the PTA governing board and bring transparency, because only board members can nominate their replacements.

Why can't one parent at the annual PTA organization meeting say I would like to nominate Mr. So And So.

Then see if a second parent seconds the motion.

The PTA Board can still put up an insider, but they should also accept nominations from the floor.

This works very well for almost every non-profit and political organization in Greenwich, why can't it work at the Ham Ave PTA.

Greenwich Roundup Finds It Hard To Believe That The Ham Ave PTA Is Not Required To Accept Nominations From The Floor And Is Taking Advantage Of Parents Who Are Not Aware Of The Process

06/08/10 WE NEED TAX REFORM NOW: Greedy Greenwich Billionaire Wants A 15% Tax Rate While You Have To Pay Over 35%

Greedy Greenwich Billionaire Edward Lampert may have found a way to shield himself from millions of dollars in taxes under legislation that would raise levies on profits at private- equity firms.

ESL Partners LP, the Greenwich, Connecticut, hedge fund Lampert started more than 20 years ago, and affiliates distributed about $829 million of stock in Sears Holdings Corp., AutoNation Inc. and AutoZone Inc. to him on June 2, according to regulatory filings. The fund is scheduled to transfer more shares in the retailers to Lampert by the end of July.

By taking direct ownership of the shares, Lampert would be taxed at the capital-gains rate of 15 percent when the stock is sold, rather than the ordinary income rate of 39.6 percent that his fund would have to pay under the bill,

Lampert is ranked 316th on the Forbes list of world’s richest people, with an estimated net worth of $3 billion.

The legislation is aimed at reducing a tax break for buyout firms.

Greedy Greenwich Billionaire Edward Lampert Doesn't Want To Talk About Paying A Lower Tavx Rate Than Honest Hard Working Americans

Steven Lipin, a spokesman for ESL, declined to comment, and Lampert didn’t return telephone calls and e-mails sent to his office.

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

According to last week’s filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Lampert signed an agreement that he can only sell “or otherwise dispose of” the Sears, AutoZone and AutoNation shares he received through the distribution on the same terms and at the same time as ESL Partners.

In January, Lampert disclosed that he had placed Sears, AutoZone and AutoNation shares with a combined market value of $10.3 million in a grantor retained annuity trust,
a vehicle that allows people to give large sums to family members under the Internal Revenue Code without paying a gift tax.

In last week’s SEC filings, Lampert described the transfers as “internal restructuring transactions” that will provide him with “direct ownership” of shares he previously held indirectly through the hedge fund. The distribution simultaneously reduces his ownership in the hedge fund.

In January, Lampert’s hedge fund made a similar distribution to him on a smaller scale. In 2004, affiliates of ESL Partners transferred some of their holdings to the hedge fund, while Lampert didn’t personally receive any shares, regulatory filings show.

Eddie Doesn't Want To Pay For The Stinking Bailout Or The Two Senseless Wars That Are Bankrupting America.

The legislation approved by the House on May 28 would raise taxes on carried interest, or the share of profit paid to managers who run private-equity, venture-capital and real-estate funds. The House had voted three times in three years to raise the levy, only to see the measure stall in the Senate.

The Senate may vote this week on the bill, which backers say would help avoid higher federal budget deficits. The Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation estimates that the private-equity provision, known as Section 710, would raise about $17.7 billion in revenue over 10 years.

According to last week’s SEC filings, ESL Partners distributed 3.79 million Sears shares with a market value of about $299 million to RBS Partners on June 2, which in turn sent 3.72 million of the shares to Lampert and 77,470 to his partner, William Crowley. The partnership and its affiliates distributed about 2.79 million AutoZone shares with a value of almost $520 million and 1.16 million AutoNation shares valued at about $23 million to the two money managers through entities such as RBS Partners, based on June 7 closing prices.

Lampert received stock with a combined market value of about $828.9 million, according to the documents. ESL Partners plans to make a second distribution to Lampert and Crowley after obtaining clearance under federal antitrust rules.

Under current tax rules, distributions of marketable securities by an investment fund such as ESL Partners to its general partner will not generate a tax bill.

Eddie Lampert actually gets the best of both worlds: He can maintain 15% the capital-gains treatment and he can also control the timing of when he pays that capital gain.

When are we going to start treating working men and women as well as we treat billionaire stock traders.

If Greedy Greenwich Billionaire Fat Cats Like Eddie Lampert Started Paying Their Fair Share We Would Have Enough Money For Education And Property Tax Relief.

It's obviously rational for Mr. Lampert to try avoid taxation when possible, and this is why governments need to take heed when designing tax systems.

Individuals will do what they can to avoid paying, either by reducing the taxed behaviour or acting to take advantage of loopholes. And the rich will be best able to do this.

Let's be honest for a moment,
Greedy Eddie Lampert Lampert is worth $3 billion. If he earns just 1% per year on that fortune—and he certainly earns much more—then he takes home $30 million in income. Per year. That's 600 times the median household income in America

It's more money than a person can reasonably spend.

Yet, Mr Lampert feels he needs to take special steps to avoid paying the regular income tax rate for individuals in the highest tax bracket

If you approached Eddie Lampert and told him he didn't work for his money, he'd bristle at the mere suggestion. And yet he wants to continue to take advantage of the silly rule by which the money hedge fund managers can pay a tax rate of just 15%

Greedy Eddie Lampert can afford to be a grown-up and pay the same taxes as everyone else.

The fact that this kind of behaviour is lauded in Greenwich when it ought to be scorned is a real problem.

It's also an indicator that something remains broken in Greenwich's attitude toward wealth.

The Town can't afford to build the high school kids a new auditorium as a Greedy backcountry billionaire makes moves to enjoy a 15% tax rate.

How Can Eddie Lampert Hoard Billions And Billions And Billions Of When There Are So Many Starving Children In The World?

WHERE DID THE MONEY GO?

$59,000 GETS FLUSHED DOWN THE TOILET BY THE HAM AVE PTA AND EVERYONE IS AFRAID TO SPEAK OUT

We all know that Greenwich Board Of Education Chairman Steven Anderson could careless of poor children on the West side of Greenwich once again get cheated.

Besides he had a good old time at Harborfest.

But Where Are The Hamilton Avenue School Community Leaders?

Where They Involved In Bob McIntyre's Fiasco Too!

  • Where is Laura DiBella in all this Harborfest mess?

  • Why hasn't Mina Bibeault spoken out?

  • Why isn't Barbara Riccio demanding answers?

  • Why isn't Dr. Deborah Cline calling out the individuals that partied on her children's money?

Where is Hearst Newspaper Editor David McCumber?

The Greenwich Time couldn't uncover who is responsible for the failure of Harborfest if you drew them a map.

Hearst Newspaper Editor David McCumber may not have the journalistic balls to cover how a bunch of Greenwich BOE insider's partied on the dime of Ham Ave children, but Greenwich Roundup does.

Concerned Hamilton Avenue parents have went to the Greenwich Time and been ignored, now they are going to the state.

Maybe after the state officials get involved and start issuing press release the clueless reporters that work for McCumber will start to their job.
