05/22/09 READER SUBMITTED COMMENTS: Sam Robins Says "Where is your coverage?"

Why don't you guys have coverage of the home invasion in Cos Cob??

Greenwich Time had this up hours ago. I thought you guys are hyper local reporting???
Your asleep at the wheel it seems.
Comment:
Dear Sam,
Greenwich Roundup is guilty as charged.
Greenwich Roundup is a real Citizen Journalist who is self employed as a building service contractor on nights weekends and holidays.
Since this is a holiday weekend night Greenwich Roundup is buried in work and has been responding to a flood of emails between jobs.
One mistake Greenwich Roundup made was that he accepted an offer to join Facebook today which created a lot of email traffic.
Then western middle school parents sent multiple copies of emails from the Western Middle School Principal's office about meetings, the Washington DC trip and the cancellation of the Middle School dance tonight.
This WMS Swine Flu story has taken a lot of time.
Then a CT State Republican party member alerted me to the three blogs that the local Greenwich State Representatives have. Representative Gibbons blog post was featured and all three of the blogs were added to the Raw Greenwich Blog Feed.
A kind Greenwich real estate professional in town, named Lynne Morell tweeted her contacts to check out Greenwich Roundup and this created a new flood of very nice emails from her friends and associates. Ms. Morell has quite a following that is very responsive to her tweets . I am going to try and incorporate her Greenwich Real Estate Tweets into the Raw Greenwich Blog Feed very soon.
Lastly Greenwich Roundup's Business Editor Blake Sturcke about the Greenwich Chamber Of Commerce event via his blackberry.
Throughout all of this Greenwich Roundup is weeding out a ton of spam.
Unfortunately, I did not have time to monitor the Greenwich Time web site and therefore did not see.....

Police are searching for three knife-wielding men in connection with a home invasion of a Cos Cob residence Friday afternoon.

Two victims were restrained at the Dandy Drive home while three Asian males in their mid-20s burglarized the residence before fleeing the scene, according to a press release.

Greenwich police received a 911 call at about 12:41 p.m. reporting that a "home invasion-type robbery," had just occurred and a large knife was used in the incident, police said.
Greenwich Roundup deploys a web scraping program that searches for Greenwich News as it occurs, but it has yet to pick up the Debra Friedman's posting.
When Greenwich Roundup checked google just a minute ago it had only discovered the Greenwich Time Story only 2 hours ago or at about 8:45 pm
Greenwich police searching for home invasion suspects
Greenwich Time - ‎2 hours ago‎
By Debra Friedman
Police believe it was a targeted crime and not a random act of violence.

One suspect is described as wearing a white shirt and black tie. The other two suspects were wearing jeans with dark color wind breaker type jackets, according to the release.
Shortly after 2 p.m. numerous Greenwich police cars could been seen leaving the area of Dandy Drive, rolling up yellow crime scene tape. Police at the scene declined to release any details about the incident.

Four men at the scene did not wish to speak about the incident.
Ideally, in a perfect world the Greenwich police Department would release the Greenwich Police Blotter in a fair and open manner, via email, to all Greenwich news sources. That is why many Greenwich residents have not read ......
"Police are asking anyone with information about the crime to contact the department's Criminal Investigations Division at 622-8054."
Just today Greenwich Roundup left a voicemail with Lt. Daniel Allen, the Greenwich Police Department's public information officer to include Greenwich Roundup on any emailed police alerts and press releases. Maybe this time the request will go through, because Greenwich Roundup called the non-emergency police number and pressed Greenwich Police Chief David Ridberg's Office extension. An employee transferred Greenwich Roundup to Lt. Daniel Allen's extension where he left a message.
Greenwich Roundup is not sure if Lt. Daniel Allen was in today, because of the holiday. After the holiday Greenwich Roundup intends to call and follow up with Lt. Allen and tell him that Police communications to Greenwich Roundup would be handled in the same manner as Greenwich Board Of Education Press releases are handled.
That is that they would be posted unedited and without comments.
What Lt. Allen sends out will be what will exactly appear on Greenwich Roundup.
There is an out of town attorney that has offered to assist Greenwich Roundup in getting access to this public information in the town of Greenwich.
This is actually, Greenwich Roundup's sixth request for the Police Departments routine public information. Greenwich Roundup had made requests to desk Sargent's, shift commanders, and the departments freedom of information officer in the past.
Each and every time Greenwich Roundup has made the same request to receive the same public information via email that all other Greenwich News sources receive.
However, to date the request has not been honored.
Now you know one of the reason's why Greenwich Roundup has a very dim view of how the Greenwich Police Department is administrated.
Even your email is complaining that you are looking for more news on the Cos Cob home invasion and not being able to find it at your news source, Greenwich Roundup.
Moreover, having public information selectively parceled out sets up a situation where a stabbing at Wilbur Peck Court is hidden from the single family homeowners of Greenwich for six days, because it was politically sensitive to the police brass who had just gotten more money for extra patrols at the housing complex.
During the next week Greenwich Roundup will be contacting the heads of individual town departments to be placed on the various media contact email lists .
Today a message was left with Charlene in First Selectman Peter Tesei's office, another message was left in Town Clerk Carmella Budkis;s Office, another message was left with Lenora Caserta at the parks Department, another message was left with Caroline Caderone in the Health Department, and other messages were left at voter registration and the Greenwich Library.
Hopefully each of these departments will stop withholding public information from Greenwich Roundup and add this news site to the various media contact lists.
Otherwise Greenwich Roundup may have to take individual Departments or the Town as a whole to court in the fall.

FBI approves Smith records for release

After a lengthy review by federal officials, thousands of pages of court transcripts and evidence are set for release in the case of a Greenwich man who vanished while on his honeymoon cruise in 2005.

Attorneys for the family of George A. Smith IV and his widow Jennifer Hagel-Smith met in Greenwich Probate Court Friday morning for a status conference, where they confirmed the records will be distributed to the press sometime next week.

"About 98 percent of the transcripts and evidence will be released on a disc form," said Probate Court Judge David Hopper.

The records have gone through a long process of review with attorneys from both sides proposing redactions. Redactions have also been made by the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office, which currently have an open investigation into Smith's disappearance.

The records are expected to shine new light on a case long shrouded in mystery

05/22/08 BOE is seriously considering postponing and/or canceling the Western Middle School 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C

Greenwich Swine Flu Update

From: Gtacey Gross

For immediate release

We have been informed by the Greenwich Department of Health that in the 6th grade at Western Middle School – to date – there have been 19 negative rapid flu tests and 15 rapid flu tests are positive for some type of flu. The flu virus rapid tests cannot determine whether it is the H1N1 virus. The positive rapid tests have been sent to the State Department of Health for further testing. As we will not have the results from the State until mid to late next week, and with guidance from medical experts, the District is seriously considering postponing and/or canceling the Western Middle School 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. next week. The school is in the process of contacting 8th grade parents now to discuss the situation.
There will be two meetings held at WMS today to discuss this situation. The first will be held at 2:45 pm and the second will be held at 6:00 pm. Thank you.
