Citizen Journalist Frank Trotta Was The First And Only Reporter
To Warn Us About A Dangerous Crime Spree In Town:

The Greenwich Police are warning residents along the Merritt Parkway corridor to make sure their second story windows and balcony doors are locked.

GPD’s Burglary Clearance Squad is investigating several residential burglaries and burglary attempts in proximity to the Merritt. In those crimes, apparently the perpetrator(s) is gaining access through second floors, specifically windows and doors off balconies. Such second floor windows and doors are typically not alarmed. The perpetrators often use lawn furniture, and downspouts to help them get to the second floor. According to police, it is generally high-end jewelry and cash which is stolen.

But Debra Friedman Claims She Was First To File The Report About The Meritt Parkway Burglary Spree. In Fact She Is So Good, Because She Has Psychic Abilities. It Looks Like She Wrote Her Story About Two Weeks Before The Police Department Was Even Written

A string of unsolved burglaries has prompted police to warn residents who live along the Merritt Parkway corridor.

The Burglary Clearance Squad is investigating several burglaries and attempted burglaries that have occurred in the past week, according to Detective Timothy Powell.

"It is an area of concern. The homeowners are near a major thoroughfare, which makes it easy for burglars to get off and back on the highway," said Powell, who is head of the burglary squad.
Police said the recent pattern of burglaries indicates that a suspect or suspects are breaking into homes through unlocked second story windows and balcony doors and stealing cash and jewelry.
"One of the reasons why I think they are going in second floors is because most times the alarms are on the ground level," said Powell.

Powell said he believes the burglaries are happening during the evening hours when residents are not home.

"The traditional burglar will avoid contact at all cost. He will choose a house that appears unoccupied, so it is important to make your house look lived in," said Powell.

Police did not say how many burglaries and attempted burglaries have been reported in the last week, noting many are still under investigation. Powell also said it was too early to speculate on whether or not the burglaries were all committed by the same person and persons.

The style of sneaking into Greenwich homes in the evening using second floor windows is reminiscent of a notorious......

..... Keith Felcyn, president of the Round Hill Association, said he received an advisory from police about the burglaries by e-mail on Tuesday.

"I hadn't heard a thing about it before," said Felcyn.

Felcyn said he was not particularly concerned about burglaries but that he and others are aware of the "dangerous times," especially given the current economic situation.

Powell said the best thing to do is make sure one's home is always locked.

"We caution the homeowner not to be complacent, but not overly alarmed either," said Powell.

Police are asking residents to be alert and report any suspicious activity by calling (203) 622-8000. For more information on burglary prevention tips, contact Powell at 622-8075.

Once Again When Greenwich Roundup Types Greenwich Time Managing Editor Jim Zorba Listens. The Greenwich Time Webmaster Has Pulled Down The Inaccurate Hearst Newspaper Article.
Now When You Click On The Link You Get This Message......

" Thank you for visiting Greenwich Time. We are sorry the article that you requested is no longer available. Please search for this article in our archive search. "
And This Clearly Shows The Difference Between Great Newspapers Like The New York Times And The Greenwich Time. The New York Times Would Not Have Taken The Online Article Down, They Would Have Put A Correction Before Or After The Article.
But The Greenwich Time Chooses To Cover Up.
And If A New York Times Reporter Was Doing Something Inappropriate And Violating Journalistic Standards, The Whole Account Of What Happened Would Be On The Front Page Of The Paper Explaining Everything To It's Readers.
And Reporters That Did File Miss Leading Stories, Like Crime Reporter Martin Cassidy, Wouldn't Be Shuffled Of To A Sister Newspaper Like Some Wayward Catholic Priest Being Bounced From Church To Church.
This Lack Of Journalistic Standards By Greenwich Time Managing Editor Jim Zorba Has Caused Town News Readers Not To Take The Green Kitty Litter Liner Seriously.
Proof Of This Is Clearly Seen In The Fact That.......
The New York Times Has A Higher Penetration Rates In Greenwich Than The Greenwich Time. That Means That More People In Town Choose To Read The New York Times Instead Of The Greenwich Time.
Things Are So Bad That The Free Newspapers Have A Print Run Of About 25,000 Papers, While The Greenwich Time Has A Print Run Of About 10,000 Papers.
The Sad Fact Is That The Greenwich Time Is Sitting On A Gold Mine Of Upscale Movers And Shakers On A National Level, But Managing Editor Jim Zorba Doesn't Know How To Dig.

Zorba's Repeated Failures To Recognize And Pursue A News Story Has Made The Greenwich Time A Lackluster News Product, At Best.

Residents who live along the Merritt Parkway corridor are heeding the police department's warning about a string of recent burglaries in the area.

"We tell our members to be careful, lock all doors and keep some lights on when you are not home," said Theodore Walworth, president of the Northeast Greenwich Association, who noted that members of the association try to stay abreast of any kind of crime patterns that might affect the immediate community and periodically send out notices.

"If we catch wind of anything through word of mouth, then it is also up to us to reach out to police and ask them if there is anything we can do to help."

Police sent out an e-mail alert to several area neighborhood associations last week noting a recent rash in burglaries in which a suspect or suspects were entering homes through unlocked second story windows or balconies and stealing cash and jewelry.

Members of the Community and Police Partnership, a group that helps connect town residents with neighborhood resource officers, also were warned around Thanksgiving of the threat of potential burglaries.

"Around Thanksgiving, they said as we are moving into the holiday season burglaries are up," said Ron Brien, a member of the group who works in town.

.....Larry Larson, a member of the District 10/Northwest Representative Town Meeting delegation who lives on Round Hill Road, said the threat of burglary has always been a concern for residents of the remote backcountry particularly because of the close proximity to the parkway.

"The fact that people who live around Round Hill Road are near the exits means they could be easy targets," said Larson.

The concern about the Merritt Parkway access points has even prompted some residents to suggest installing cameras on the ramps.

"We've had concerns about the access points that people may have to homes throughout the area that are close to the parkway. It's a quick on and off," said Walworth. "A couple of our board members said that there should be monitoring cameras on the entrances going south and north up on North Street."

While the recent police warning has gained the attention of those who live in the affected areas, the threat of crime is nothing new to residents near the Merritt Parkway corridor, as several other incidents over the past few years also have prompted alarm.

In June 2007, a burning body was found on the Lake Avenue off-ramp on the Merritt Parkway. The body was later identified as Francisco Aguirre, a 25-year-old from Middletown. No arrest has been made in the case.......

.....Detective Timothy Powell, who heads the Greenwich Police Department's Burglary Clearance Squad, said the best thing area residents can do to protect themselves is to remain vigilant and always make sure their homes are locked when they are away. Police also recommend making sure backyard furniture is secured so it can not be used to help a burglar enter a home through a window.

"It's also important to develop a trust in your neighbor and watch out for each other," Powell said.
