The town election is just about a month away so the campaign should be going into high gear.
Board of Estimate and Taxation and Board of Education seats are on the ballot, an unchallenged town clerk and some lesser offices fill it out.
So far, there have been a few debates between the top contenders, First Selectman Peter Tesei and his Democratic challenger and current selectman, Lin Lavery.
Looking at the classy campaign propaganda now emanating from the candidates reminds me of how far we've come and how much things have changed since I was a reporter covering politics in town many years ago.
In those days, the principal propaganda vehicle was the public rally. Both parties mounted these open meetings in all parts of town, often heralded by marches in the street, big ads in the newspapers and any other means to promote turnout.....
