Hamilton Avenue School parents sue over mold

Parents: Health issues resulted from exposure

A group of Hamilton Avenue School parents has slapped the town with a lawsuit, saying that the school board failed to address persistent moisture- and mold-related problems at a temporary modular facility where students were housed for most of three school years.

Because of this, the suit claims, students were exposed to unhealthy levels of mold that has led to a slew of health issues, including lasting cases of strep throat, ear and sinus infections, coughs, nose bleeds, dizziness, nausea and neurological symptoms......

.....Hamilton Avenue School mothers Laura DiBella and Mina Bibeault, both outspoken critics of the town's handling of the Chickahominy school's delay-mired reconstruction, are listed as the lead plaintiffs, among six other mothers whose names appear in the suit......

....Officials failed to check for this possible mold growth while addressing the leaks and moisture issues, the suit claims.....

....Board of Education Chairwoman Nancy Weissler declined comment, saying it is against board policy to talk about pending litigation....
