08/12/10 A black bear seems to have taken up residence in backcountry Greenwich.

Six bear sightings in Greenwich so far this summer

said. "If a bear is acting agitated, call police and we will do our best to handle it."

The Story:

....Since July, police said they have had six bear sightings in the area of Riversville Road and John Street, including one Thursday morning in which a woman saw a large bear in her backyard by the pool.

Based on the location and the descriptions of the animal, police said the sightings may be of the same bear.....

....In early July, animal control officers first investigated a bear sighting on King Street. However, officers were not able to locate the animal. While it is rare to see a bear in Greenwich, it does not pose a threat unless the animal is acting unusual or aggressive, animal control officers.....
