04/09/10 They Wont Report This At The Greenwich: The Yudain Clan Dominated Local News Coverage For Decades, While Ignoring Many Diverse Voices In Town

The Greenwich Time Is Revising History:

Go Back And Read The Greenwich Time Puff Pieces About Bernie Yudain's Newspaper Career And See If They Mention These Facts.....

Bernie Yudain did stints with the New Canaan Advertiser and Darien Review — where his brother Harold Yudain was editor.

Bernie Yudain arrived in Greenwich to cover the politically important Town Hall beat for the Daily News & Graphic, where senior brother Ted Yudain was editor.

The Daily News & Graphic later became the Greenwich Time.

The news business was in the Yudain family’s blood, with about six of the eight in the business:

Ted was and editor of the Greenwich Time and later the Stamford Advocate for Kingsley Gillespie;

Harold for the Darien Review and among others, the Bridgeport Sunday Herald;

Charlotte did some space sales while Sylvia had a long career with the Advocate.

Bill sold advertising space for the Advocate, among others.

Bernie’s younger brother Sid was sent to Washington, D.C.

Bernie, Sid and Harold all had major involvement in politics and were well paid political consultants.

The Yudain's institutional corporate mark is still at the Greenwich Time.

When something happens at the Greenwich schools and only Board of education members and school employees are quoted in the article.

That's the way that Bernie Yudain liked it.

The Greenwich Powers That Be never like see school parents and hard working taxpayers that might oppose a Board Of Education decision quoted in a Greenwich Time article.

For decades local residents have joked that the Greenwich Time was really edited in the basement of town hall,

The joke says that all the crooked or incompetent politicians censor everything in the basement before it is printed in the Greenwich Time.

And woe to any reporter who dared to question the status quo or rock the boat in Town.

Greenwich blogger Bill Clark likes calling the Greenwich Time the Yellowich Time, because the newspaper editors were afraid to tell residents what is really going on in town.

Mr. Clark has often argued that the Greenwich Time should change its masthead color from green to yellow. Mr Clark feels that the change would reflect the color of the journalism published by the local rag.

Bill Rowe who used to own the newspaper and refused to print Bill Clrk's letters to the editor, when Joe Pisani was the editor of the Greenwich Time.

the Local Rag has had a pretty poor history of truth-telling and fact-reporting in the decades following Bernie Yudain's tenure as editor.

The Greenwich Time has a long history of knuckling under to powerful interests, be they Town Hall, crooked police chiefs, or the Kennedy family (as in the Martha Moxley murder),

Every Greenwich Time reporter is well versed in the mythology that Greenwich is a place where nothing nasty or dishonest or untoward ever occurs.

This editorial theory went so far that it argued That Greenwich Time readers certainly didn't want to know about anything happening in Greenwich.

There has never been a Greenwich Time Editor that understood proper journalistic behavior.

That's why to this day Greenwich Time Editor David McCumber will only allow certain letters get into the Greenwich Time Editorial pages.

Opposing voices are still being ignored at the Greenwich Time.

Last week this editorial was sent it to all the print media in Greenwich. Interestingly, two corporately owned newspapers stated they would not publish it, and the other newspaper has not published it still.
