Hey Livvy, What About The Innocent Greenwich Single Family Home Owners That Did Not Have A Damn Thing To Do With This Financial Mess?

by Andrew Sullivan

From the Hartford Courant:.

[State Rep. Livvy] Floren, who represents some of the richest neighborhoods in America, said she is more concerned about the younger bankers with large mortgages and little children. She bumped into three people during the past week who are now unemployed — two from Lehman and one from the investment firm Bear Stearns. With no bonuses that they once relied on, the mid-level Wall Street workers will likely pull back from buying the fanciest cars and the largest boats.

Now Livvy Wants To Give Out Corporate Welfare To These Irresponsible Wall Street Failures Who Now Have Thier Hands Out.

This woman didn't lift a finger to help working Connecticut families who were loosing there homes to foreclosure, now she wants to give corporate welfare to multi-millionaires.

This heartless woman wouldn't even give a minimum wage worker in a Greenwich burger joint a 10 cent raise, because it would wreak the economy, now she wants to handout 700 Billion in corporate welfare to her back country buddies.

Shame, Shame, Shame On Livvy !!!!!

10/01/08 A Hometown Fire Hero From Greenwich

Norwalk Advocate

STAMFORD - Brian Kelly had just about finished his cardiovascular workout on a rowing machine Monday evening when a man collapsed on a treadmill nearby.

At first, it seemed like a routine accident, Kelly said. A regular at the gym, LA Fitness on Sixth Street, he has seen people fall off treadmills before.

"I'm a klutz," he said. "I've done it. That's why I don't get on them."

Kelly approached the man and saw he was unresponsive, his eyes rolled back in his head. A volunteer firefighter in Greenwich and a trained medical response technician, Kelly directed what happened next.

He asked one gym employee to call 911 as another shocked the man with a defibrillator before Kelly and a fellow gym-goer administered CPR. .....

Minutes later, the man was breathing again, Kelly said.....

10/09/08 Pursuit Capital In Greenwich Is Allowing Investors To Cash Out

Sorry We Are Closed

International Herald Tribune

LONDON: Two weeks after the bankruptcy by Lehman Brothers, hedge fund clients are still struggling to retrieve assets held by the firm.

According to bankruptcy filings, large hedge funds like GLG, Harbinger, Amber Capital and Elliott Associates still have varying degrees of exposure to Lehman Brothers - with many of the assets held at Lehman's prime brokerage unit in London.

Many hedge fund investors will have negative returns this year. The near-certain prospect of having to take additional write-downs from unrecoverable assets at Lehman Brothers brings an extra level of concern that could lead to more rapid redemptions. That would add to a broader sense of unease in an industry facing regulatory pressures and greater scrutiny....

... Pursuit Capital, a small fund that is based in Greenwich, Connecticut, and specializes in bonds supported by mortgages and aircraft leases, is also listed as a creditor of Lehman, according to court filings. The fund this year had to bar investors from redeeming assets. An executive at Pursuit did not respond to an e-mail message seeking more information on Pursuit's Lehman exposure. ...

10/01/08 Greenwich Roundup gets the story wrong. The dish DID report on this stupid party

Susie spills the beans on Brian Cashman, Bishop Lori, Dan Maloy, Jim Cabrera, Covino, Hersham, Millstein and Papa Pisani.

How else would we find out?

Way to go, my darling Susie!!!!!!

I think it answers a whole lot of questions as to what she does and for whom.

She made the entire party list public, but left out that she and Joe Pisani were glued to themselves, while hovering over those on the guest list for reasons already stated. Corrupt Govt politics, buying more newspapers, $$$$$, and using real Catholics like Bishop Lori and The Cashmsn's as "props"

Dear Greenwich Roundup,

After seeing Yesterday's Greenwich Roundups Article

We Thought We Should Report About The Joe And Susie's Connection To The Insiders Event.

Joe Pisani is working for the Dielenschneider Group as a marketing consultant/PR man? For those who don't know, this is a very small firm that gets little to no action. Check their web site. It has only a few things to click on.

And Joe Pisani and this Susie think the residents here in Greenwich care to read the entire party invitation list of some unknown guy in Darien trying to drum up business? Is Susie working in NYC now too? At the same place as Joe Pisani? How would she know who was invited to some insignificant get together? This is a very small world.

This is the most absurd information I've read. I know Brian Cashman. I'm going to find out who really went to this shin-dig and what really went down. I'll keep y'all posted about Joe Pisani, Susie "The Dish", and the Dielenschneider Group.

By the way, you can read so-called marketing guru Robert L. Dilenschneider's failed attempt at social networking. Dilenschneider's 2007 blog that had only one post here. This makes one wonder how many other failed projects that this second rate ad agency has had.

TOPS Toss Out Pisani/Susie

Comment:

Wait a minute. I need I am getting confused I need a score card to keep up with Joe Pisani and his former student Greenwich Gossip Columnist Susie "The Dish". Ex-Greenwich Time Editor Joe Pisani new boss is hosting a party for his old boss.

Is Mr. Hersham aware of Greenwich Post Columnist Joe Pisani's maneuvering in the background to make secret contacts with the Greenwich Time?

Did Greenwich Post Editor Kristan Zimmer approve of Joe Pisani's back channel contacts with the Greenwich Time?
  • Will Jan And Richard Dilenschneider host a Fancy Nancy party for Mr. Hersham and his friends?
  • Will Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy and his wife, Cathy attend Mr. Hersham's 'What about Me' Darien party?

  • Will Greenwich Post Gossip Columnist Susie "The Dish" be a brown nose and write a glowing story about the 'What About Me" party in Mr. Hersham's newspaper.
  • Better yet, what are the ex-Greenwich Time employees at Our Greenwich think of Joe Pisani's back channel contacts with the Greenwich Time and George Irish? New York Post

By KAJA WHITEHOUSE kaja.whitehouse@nypost.com

As Wall Street burns, smoke can now be seen billowing from its neighbor to the north: Greenwich, Conn., the world's hedge-fund capital.

With once-highflying funds seeing their performance worsening, investors are pounding on the door to get their money out, sources told The Post.

This has the investment community bracing for mass closings and liquidations by year's end, if not sooner.

"I'd not be surprised if, for some funds, September 2008 is their last month in business," said Veryan Allen, who advises institutional investors on hedge-fund investments.

Some of the industry's smartest investors got hammered over the summer amid nearly unprecedented volatility. Oil went from close to $150 a barrel to below $100 a barrel in a matter of weeks, while stocks were roiled by a series of bank failures.

And a formerly winning strategy - shorting stocks - kept getting hampered by new rules from the Securities and Exchange Commission.....

10/01/08 PRESS RELEASE: Injury Prevention on the Roster as Youth Soccer Season Heats Up: Top Sports Orthopaedic Surgeon - Dr. Kevin Plancher

Through proper coaching and training, youth soccer participants can learn to protect themselves from injury, and to recognize an injury when it does occur.

New York, NY and Greenwich, CT
October 1, 2008
Youth soccer is one of America's most popular team sport, with millions of kids in the U.S. participating in soccer programs each year. While soccer is considered far safer than contact sports like football, injuries on the soccer field still number more than 100,000 each year and account for 75,000 emergency room visits annually. The good news is that simple preventive strategies can help keep kids injury free on the soccer field this season - and when injuries do occur, there are effective techniques to help children recover more quickly and completely.

"Nearly half of all youth soccer injuries happen to adolescents between the ages of 10 and 14, a time period when kids begin to develop more strength but are still struggling with body control," explains Dr. Kevin Plancher, MD, a leading orthopaedic surgeon in the NY metro area and an official surgeon of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team. "Concurrently, this age group might also begin to take more physical risks on the playing field, but tend to downplay the need for comprehensive preparations before practice or competition," he notes, adding, "Through proper coaching and training, youth soccer participants can learn to protect themselves from injury, and to recognize an injury when it does occur."

AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION:
Pre-season training and pre-game warmups.
Dr. Plancher stresses that two major strategies - training and conditioning, along with pre-competition and practice warm-ups - can go a long way toward keeping young players injury-free. "Most injuries to soccer players over the age of five involve the lower extremities," he points out. "Beginning a preseason strengthening and conditioning program can help these players increase strength and flexibility in the muscles, tendons and ligaments of the hips, legs, knees and ankles, reducing the risk of injury once competition begins."

Dr. Plancher recommends that teams hire a certified athletic trainer when possible to work with young athletes, or to train coaches on tactics aimed at reducing the risk of injuries on the field. "Sports medicine research confirms the importance of training, and more specifically, the types of exercises that are appropriate - and inappropriate - for developing children and adolescents," Dr. Plancher advises

Certified trainers work with teams to teach proper running and pivoting techniques to reduce the risk of knee injuries such as ACL and meniscus tears - which are on the rise among young athletes. At Plancher Orthopaedics, trainer Hunter Greene, MS, ATC/L, OTC, works with local middle school, high school and college teams. Trainers like Hunter can work with young athletes to help them avoid overuse injuries, which occur when children engage in a single repetitive motion over a long time period that puts stress on a muscle, ligament, tendon or joint. In soccer, the ankles and knees are most prone to these types of injuries, and athletic trainers provide conditioning to help children avoid them. "Soccer is a game of constant movement," Dr. Plancher points out, "And so young athletes need to learn the proper techniques to protect their joints and ligaments during long stretches of running and physical exertion."

Finally, coaches and athletic trainers should ensure that youth players warm up adequately before engaging in full competition or practice. Dr. Plancher suggests that warm-ups consist of several minutes of light cardiovascular exercise such as jogging around the field, followed by 10-15 minutes of stretching the core muscles that will be taxed during practice or game play.

IN CASE OF INJURY:
Recognizing and RICE-ing a child's soccer injuryWhen injuries do occur, Dr. Plancher notes, the most important strategy to reduce its impact and ensure a positive and timely recovery is recognition. "In game situations, particularly among young players, there is frequently a temptation to 'shake off' or play through an injury," Dr. Plancher points out. "However, tendon and ligament injuries can worsen with additional activity, and so it is important that an injured child be removed from play until a certified athletic trainer or a physician can evaluate the injury."
Dr. Plancher suggests that any young athlete who experiences swelling or hears a tearing or popping sound at the site of the injury, or has difficulty bearing weight in the injured area, should refrain from play. "The RICE technique - rest, ice, compression and elevation - should be applied immediately, and if the symptoms persist or worsen after several hours, the child should be taken to an emergency room or a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon," he advises.

"Soccer can be one of the safest and most enjoyable sports for young athletes to participate in," Dr. Plancher concludes. "As with any sport, soccer is most enjoyable when the players are conditioned and prepared to play in ways that help them reduce their risk of painful injuries that sideline them from the game."

Bio:Kevin D. Plancher, M.D., M.S., F.A.C.S., F.A.A.O.S, is a leading orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine expert with treatment in knee, shoulder, elbow and hand injuries. Dr. Plancher is an Associate Clinical Professor in Orthopaedics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NY. He is on the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
A graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine, Dr. Plancher received an M.S. in Physiology and an M.D. from their school of medicine (cum laude). He did his residency at Harvard's combined Orthopaedic program and a Fellowship at the Steadman-Hawkins clinic in Vail, Colorado where he studied shoulder and knee reconstruction. Dr. Plancher continued his relationship with the Clinic for the next six years as a Consultant. Dr. Plancher has been a team physician for over 15 athletic teams, including high school, college and national championship teams. Dr. Plancher is currently the head team physician for Manhattanville College.
Dr. Plancher is an attending physician at Beth Israel Hospital in New York City and The Stamford Hospital in Stamford, CT and has offices in Manhattan and Greenwich, Connecticut.
Dr. Plancher lectures extensively domestically and internationally on issues related to Orthopaedic procedures and injury management. During 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, Dr. Plancher was named among the Top Doctors in the New York Metro area and was the New York State Representative for the Council of Delegates to the American Academy of Orthopaedic surgeons.
In 2007 Dr. Plancher was named America's Top Doctor in Sports Medicine. For the past six years Dr. Plancher has received the Order of Merit (Magnum Cum Laude) for distinguished Philanthropy in the Advancement of Orthopaedic Surgery by the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation.
In 2001, he founded "The Orthopaedic Foundation for Active Lifestyles", a non-profit foundation focused on maintaining and enhancing the physical well-being of active individuals through the development and promotion of research and supporting technologies.

With the economy in a state of flux, to put it mildly, and a tight presidential race a little less than six weeks away from reaching its conclusion, the Greenwich market could well see a swing after either Democrat Sen. RTM member Paul Curtis works a GCTV camera during an

RTM meeting at Central Middle School last week.

(Bob Luckey Jr/Greenwich Time photo)

TOP STORY:

For the past five years, Paul Curtis has led a double life to bring local government to the locals through Greenwich Community Television. The Representative Town Meeting member is by day a software engineer, but by night - and some weekends - volunteers behind the camera, filming various town meetings and other programs for GCTV.

"To me it's a public service, like anyone else who's on the RTM" said Curtis, a self-taught videographer who was inspired to get RTM meetings on television after local radio station WGCH stopped airing them. "Filming it is just a different facet of public service." ....

....GCTV now broadcasts RTM, Board of Estimate and Taxation, as well as Board of Selectmen meetings live on Channel 79 and over the Internet, through its Web page at greenwichct.org. It also features two news programs, "The Word," which explores such issues as green building on a local level, and the one-on-one "A Conversation With," hosted by Thompson and his wife, Dima....

..."It doesn't always have to be serious, but it will always be Greenwich-oriented. We want to get the word out that GCTV is a pretty good alternative to commercial television. And, of course, we don't have commercials or any 'Back after this' messages."

However it may expand, Curtis said he hopes GCTV to will stay true to its local government roots.

"If you think about it, there are very few mechanisms through which people can actually see and hear what their government is doing."

But in all the municipal action, there's still time for ribbing.
"Hey, Chris, when you run down there in front of the camera, your hair's sticking up," Delman said to RTM member Chris vonKeyserling at the RTM meeting. "It looks real good, like Bozo,"

TGIF could become TGIT, as in "thank god it's Thursday," if a group of town employees pushing for a four-day work week has its way.

With the backing of Tax Collector Louis Caravella, several town employees have been floating the concept around Town Hall and recently submitted a PowerPoint slide presentation to First Selectman Peter Tesei for rumination. The employees want the town to try the shortened work week in a six-month experiment.

Advocates of the plan say a four-day work week would improve employee morale, save the town money on the cost of heating and cooling offices and help the environment by getting municipal workers off the road on off-days....

...Proponents of the four-day work week appear to have their work cut out for them, however.
Tesei said not all employees would get to take advantage of the plan, especially those who work for the schools, the town-owned Nathaniel Witherell nursing home, police and fire departments.

"You have to look at equity and fairness for all employees," Tesei said, explaining that any changes to work schedules would have to be approved through collective bargaining with the eight municipal employee unions.

As the town's chief elected official, Tesei said he is opposed to shutting down Town Hall on Fridays as some have suggested.

"We cannot close the building to the public. The public comes first," Tesei said....

Greenwich Public Schools officials say they're tapping a group of school administrators, teachers, parents and students to address concerns about students meeting the challenges of work and career after graduation - possibly through a wholesale retooling of the district's middle schools and high school.

The newly-formed group, the Secondary Schools Review Committee, has been meeting to consider a raft of changes to the district's secondary-school curriculum, operations and administrative structure.

The goal is to boost achievement, particularly after recent lags in performance, and ensure that students graduate better prepared to enter college and the workforce...

...The committee's work comes at a critical time for the district, as it struggles to boost achievement and better align the secondary-school curricula with state standards after a year of oftentimes disappointing results on state exams.

While such results have come to light only after the committee was formed, school officials have repeatedly pointed to the committee's reform agenda as a way to address such shortfalls....

....The committee will meet regularly over the next two years to evaluate possible changes, review trends in performance data and eventually submit a final set of recommendation in spring 2010 to the Board of Education, which will eventually vote on implementing the changes.

The doors of Byram Pharmacy closed after the FBI said it executed a search warrant on the property on Friday.

Michael Romsky, a spokesman for the FBI's New Haven division, said he could not release any further details on the on-going investigation.

"A search warrant was executed, that's all I can say at this time," Romsky said.

Customers of the pharmacy, located at 13 N. Water St., arrived at store Tuesday morning, frustrated to find that the doors were still closed. Only a handwritten note was left on the front door, which read, "Pharmacy closed for Emergency. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks."

"It's been up there two days," said one customer, John Steele, of Byram. "They don't answer the phone. It is very disappointing," he said.

"I don't know whether its going to re-open."....

As a widow who lives alone, Herz contacted Lise Jameson, executive director of At Home in Greenwich, who hopped in her car to go with her.

"She took notes and then typed them up and gave them to me," Herz said. "I really needed that."

Herz is a member of At Home in Greenwich, a nonprofit which, nearly a year after its founding, has grown to offer more services and activities to make it easier for seniors to stay in their homes longer....

The U.S. financial system is the lifeblood of our economy. Unfortunately, the financial system was involved in a head-on collision, and the patient needs intensive care.

Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson were the first to arrive on the scene and were able to assist ... temporarily. They tried to rush the patient to the emergency room, but the U.S. House of Representatives turned them away.

But all is not lost. There is another emergency room available to stop the bleeding.

The U.S. government should act like Warren Buffett. The Federal Reserve should recapitalize the banking system by infusing equity while banks are in distress.

This is value investing. The Fed should buy equity in these troubled banks and receive preferred stock. In this way, the Fed would own equity and reap the reward for taking the risk.

Banks and the private sector would then be able to work out problem loans on their own. Weaker banks should be allowed to go out of business or be forced to merge with larger banks.

If this recapitalization is structured properly, it would cost the government nothing. It would probably make money. The result would be the beginning of the restoration of confidence in our financial system and by extension our economy. It would also begin to restore our country's balance sheet. The Fed would become the largest distressed fund in the world.

The bad news is that if our government continues to act like it did Monday, trust in our system will be lost, credit markets will shut down altogether and a nuclear winter will descend on our financial markets and our economy.

The good news is that if our government acts quickly, this could be the bottom of this crisis.
The patient would stabilize and then we could begin reconstructive surgery.
