Ex-Contrarian Capital Controller Guilty in $9 Million Theft

Lawrence Herzing was arrested Oct. 29 and accused of using his position at Greenwich, Connecticut-based Contrarian to wire $9.2 million to accounts he controlled from 2004 to 2013, Connecticut U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly said in a statement. Herzing, who is free on a $5.6 million bond and has agreed to forfeit his residence and about $1.8 million, pleaded guilty Thursday before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Alker Meyer in Bridgeport.

Former Controller Of Greenwich Hedge Fund Admits Embezzling $9 Million

A 45-year-old Greenwich man pleaded guilty Thursday, Jan. 29, to embezzling more than $9 million from the hedge fund where he was employed as a controller. Lawrence J. Herzing pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Alker Meyer in Bridgeport, said Deirdre M. Daly, the U.S. attorney for Connecticut and Patricia M. Ferrick, special agent in charge of the New Haven Division of the FBI.

Driver Is Accused of Failing to Stop for Greenwich Cops and Driving into Port Chester

A man who Greenwich Police say wouldn't stop for officers checking out a report of an erratic driver, and then drove across the border into Port Chester, NY is facing a several charges including driving under the influence. It all apparently started about 9 p.m. Jan. 4 when police received a report of motorist driving erratically on West Putnam Avenue, according to a police report.

Appeals court tosses Greenwich woman's libel claim

A New York federal appeals court has tossed a Greenwich woman's claims that she was libeled by local media when they did not delete stories about her arrest after charges were dismissed. The ruling by the three-judge panel acknowledged the consequences of a criminal arrest are wide-ranging and long-lasting, even when someone is later exonerated or the charges are dismissed.
