11/03/11 Did Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei Just Get The Kiss Of Death From The Clueless Greenwich Time?
In Previous Elections Frank Farricker and Lin Lavery both got the endorsement and lost.
Greenwich resident just don't trust the judgement of the numerous Hearst Newspaper Editors who have rolled in and out of town recently.
Tesei, Theis and Marzullo for Board of Selectmen
http://www.greenwichtime.com/news/article/Tesei-Theis-and-Marzullo-for-Board-of-Selectmen-2250782.php
Greenwich Time is approaching the endorsements for first selectman and selectmen differently this year than we have in the past. Our traditional practice has been to endorse each race separately. But in considering the candidates this year, we decided our endorsements should reflect how the Board of Selectmen is actually elected.
As readers are aware, the first selectman race is a straight-up contest, winner gets the seat. But the two selectmen seats on the board go to the two top vote getters among the two selectmen candidates and the loser of the first selectman race.
It's an odd system. We don't know of another in which a candidate can lose an election but still gain office -- one he or she did not even seek to boot. But, it's the system we have, so, on to the endorsements:
As we said, the first selectman process is straightforward: two candidates, top vote getter wins, and this year that should be First Selectman Peter Tesei.
If he wins, this will be Mr. Tesei's third term in office, making him the first since John Margenot to last more than two terms as Greenwich's first selectman....
THE LOCAL RAG ALSO SAYS:
...His challenger, Democrat John Blankley, is an intelligent, likable man with an impressive professional background. The management and leadership skills he has developed during that career are the base upon which Mr. Blankley's candidacy is built -- and it is a formidable one.
That said, Mr. Blankley's primary claim during this campaign is that a person with more dynamic leadership skills ....
THE GREEN KITTY LITTER LINER CONTINUES:
....If this election goes the way of most, not all, elections in Greenwich, the loser of the first selectman race will wind up on the board as a selectman.
That would be a shame. Not because Mr. Tesei or Mr. Blankley would not make a good selectman. Both would do a fine job. But it is not the job that either man wants. And Greenwich has two men who do want it and who have proven themselves to be very good at it.
Republican David Theis and Democrat Drew Marzullo are each seeking second terms as Greenwich selectmen.
Both appear to want a second term very much. Their contest, however, has been something of an oddity. In debates and in conversation, these two have nothing but good things to say about one another. In fact, it often has seemed like no one ever told them that they actually are running against each other....

11/02/11 Ct Consumer Protection Press Release: Safety Tips For When Power Is RESTORED !!!
“The weather made a huge impact on many lives this week, so to prevent further effects to consumers’ health or wallets, we want to encourage consumers to protect themselves,” Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein said. “By taking a few simple precautions, consumers can assure the safety of their food and drugs and ward off home improvement scammers.”
“As power is restored throughout the state and people take on the task of cleaning out their refrigerators, it’s important that they keep food and medication safety in mind,” said DPH Commissioner Dr. Jewel Mullen. “If the temperature in your refrigerator or freezer has gone above 40 degrees, throw away perishable foods like meats, eggs, dairy and cut fruits and vegetables.”
FOOD SAFETY
• When in doubt, throw it out.
• Never taste a food to determine its safety.
• A Consumer’s Guide to Food Safety, which includes a color chart listing the safety of unrefrigerated foods, is available on the Department website at: www.ct.gov/dcp.
CONTRACTORS
• Don’t hire contractors who go door-to-door, call, or post notices on bulletin boards or online before checking them out thoroughly
• Verify the registration, insurance, and if appropriate, the professional license of any worker before agreeing to let them work on your property
• All home improvement contractors — including persons who install and repair gutters, roofs, fences, siding, insulation, windows, masonry and underground fuel storage tanks — must be registered with the Department of Consumer Protection. In addition, plumbers, heating and ventilation workers, sheet metal workers, electricians and many other professionals require a current Connecticut professional license in order to practice their craft.
• Despite the sense of urgency brought on by the widespread storm damage, consumers should get a detailed contract and check all the terms and conditions, materials, start date, end date and costs, and if necessary, insist that any changes be written in. Both the consumer and contractor must sign and date the contract, and the consumer should get a completed copy for safekeeping.
Contractors are required by law to print their Connecticut license number on their contracts, business cards, on their vehicles, and in all advertising. A consumer can verify a contractor’s registration at www.ct.gov/dcp by selecting “verify a license.”
Contractors should carry their own liability insurance and must be able to produce an insurance certificate as proof. The certificate should carry the name of the insurance company and the homeowner is urged to call the insurance agency on the certificate to confirm that coverage. To verify if an insurance agent or agency is licensed in Connecticut, please visit the Connecticut Insurance Department web page at http://www.cidverifylicense.ct.gov/CLIC/VerifyLicense.aspx
Consumers who have home improvement questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the Department of Consumer Protection at dcp.tradepractices@ct.gov or at 1-800-842-2649.
MEDICATION AND HOME-DELIVERED MEDICAL SUPPLIES
• Loss of electricity could have affected certain medications.
• Items that require refrigeration should not be relied upon for full effectiveness and potency if they were not maintained at the temperature recommended by the manufacturer. Due to potency loss, replace affected medicines when possible.
• Anyone having questions about the safety or storage of any medication should contact their pharmacist.
• Persons who depend on medical supply deliveries and are temporarily staying at another address – with a neighbor, family member or at a shelter – should notify their medical supply providers to have their supplies delivered to the temporary location with no lapse in their care.
11/03/11 John Blankley's plan to modernize Town Hall
1. We need to update and revamp the website to make it more user friendly for residents.
2. We move forward with the full implementation of software to consolidate various databases that will make the planning and permitting processes quicker and easier for residents.
3. We must proactively collect delinquent taxes
4. Above all my door will always be open to residents, who I regard as both customers and shareholders of our town: and I will always be receptive to good new ideas to improve efficiency and performance.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 3, 2011
9:30 a.m.
SITUATION:
The Town of Greenwich is beginning to approach full recovery from the storm of 29 October 2011. Departments of the Town continue in their unified efforts to return Town facilities and infrastructure to a normal state of affairs.
The only reported complete road closure is Lockwood Lane at East Putnam Avenue which involves power lines. Alternate routes to avoid the closure are available. Many minor roadway obstructions remain around Town, but most are expected to be reduced by the end of 4 November 2011.
Approximately 1% of Greenwich CL&P customers are without power (502 customers—residences or businesses, out of 27,910). Nineteen Towns across the State of Connecticut have 80% or more of their residents and businesses without power. More than half the Towns across Connecticut have 50% or more of their residents and businesses without power.
Current CL&P priorities within Greenwich are restoring power to remaining dark neighborhoods and remediation of individual service issues.
FUTURE OPERATIONS:
The TOG is striving to ensure that all roadways remain open.
CL&P achieved 99% restoration of Greenwich customers at 11:00 pm on 2 November 2011, about 24 hours earlier than projected. CL&P is projecting 100% restoration by the end of the day on 5 November 2011 (Saturday).
PUBLIC INFORMATION POINTS:
The Town has posted an updated link at www.greenwichct.org to a map indicating current roadway obstructions across Greenwich. The map will be updated by 2:00 pm on 3 November 2011.
CL&P is responsible for the restoration of power and maintenance of the power grid.
The Town of Greenwich does not have any supervisory authority over CL&P. The State of Connecticut Public Utility Regulatory Agency (PURA) provides oversight and can be reached at 800-382-4586 or on the web at www.ct.gov/dpuc.
The Town of Greenwich operates an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to coordinate all Greenwich departments and assets in response to storm recovery efforts.
CL&P provides a liaison to the Town Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The Greenwich EOC provides input to CL&P on restoration priorities. Overarching priorities communicated by the Town to CL&P include public safety capabilities, medical treatment facilities, roadway access, assisted living facilities, critical infrastructure (i.e. waste water), and efforts that result in the highest number of restorations.
Remember that if you are using a vehicle or a generator to charge electronic devices, please use these outside. These devices should not be indoors. Having your garage door open is not sufficiently safe.
Carbon monoxide is odorless, tasteless and deadly.
All down wires should be considered “live” and lethal.
As we all work to clean up in the aftermath of the storm, please assist the Town by refraining from placing your yard waste and storm debris in the right of way. The Department of Public Works will not remove debris from private property.
For those residents who have found Connecticut Light and Power’s response to be insufficient to the task at hand, complaints can be made to the Public Utility Regulatory Agency (PURA) of the State of Connecticut. PURA complaints may be lodged via toll-free phone at 1 800 382 4586 or on-line at
