Carolina Sculti, an 11-year-old Junior National diver from Rye, won a gold medal in the Junior Pan American Games earlier this month in Medellin, Colombia
Sculti, who attends Rye Middle School and dives for the Greenwich YMCA Marlins, with whom she practices 2 1/2 hours a day, five to six days a week.
She is coached by Lindsay Weigle and Dylan Korn.
The top two divers from the U.S., Mexico, Ecuador, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Chile and Canada competed at the Junior Pan Am Games.
Sculti took the gold medal in the platform competition and was fourth in the 1-meter event.
Team USA placed second, behind Mexico.
To earn her berth at the Junior Pan Am Games, first Sculti took first place in both events at the summer regionals in Ewing, N.J.
Advancing to Zones in Rockville, Md., she placed first in three events.
Then, to get onto the national team, Sculti placed first on the 1-meter board and third on both the 3-meter board and the platform at the Speedo Junior Nationals in Knoxville, Tenn.
