Friendly Connections Program to Hold Volunteer Open House

Friendly Connections to Host Volunteer Open House on January 31


Greenwich, Conn. (January 10, 2011) – Friendly Connections, Family Centers educationand outreach program for adults over the age of 50, will hold an open house for anyoneinterested in volunteering with the program in 2011. The event will be held at FamilyCenters’ 40 Arch Street offices in Greenwich.


Prospective volunteers will meet with Friendly Connections Manager Rebecca Lippeland learn about the various ways they can help the program and impact the lives ofarea seniors. Volunteer opportunities include facilitating informational and entertainingteleconference groups, making check-in calls to local seniors, visiting older adults unableto leave their home and administrative work.


Open House sessions will be held at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Registration is required, and nowalk-ins will be accepted. For more information or to register, contact Rebecca Lippel at203-661-8841 or rlippel@familycenters.org.


Friendly Connections offers comprehensive support and wellness services to seniorsliving in Fairfield County. Its Friendly Callers component connects isolated seniors withcommunity volunteers, who make weekly phone calls and provide much-needed supportand companionship. Meanwhile, the Friendly Visitors program matches homeboundseniors with a volunteer, who visits their home on a weekly basis. Friendly Visitors isoperated in partnership with the Greenwich Department of Social Services. All Friendly Connections programs are offeredfree of charge.
