03/15/10 READER SUBMITTED COMMENTS: Where are the crews?

I haven't seen a working utility crew in 2 days.

What is going on?

Name Withheld By Request

Comment:
They recently fired a lot of DPW workers.
You now have less boots on the ground
The good news is that Greenwich home owners saved 1/10th of 1 percent
in their mill rate by firing those DPW workers.
There are only about 30 some Connecticut Light And Power crews in town.
The remaining DPW works are having to spend a great deal of time
keeping the traffic light batteries charged on the post road.
Governor Jody M Rell needs to get the Connecticut DOT road crews in town now that she has declared a state of emergency.
Can't Governor Rell call in CT National guard troops now that an emergency has been declared?
Oh, wait we forgot?
Were too busy spending a Billion dollars a day fighting two senseless wars and rebuilding the middle east.
It is a shame that we are not spending a Billion dollars a day rebuilding and employing America.

Drugs Remain a problem in Greenwich

Over the years, drug use in Greenwich has risen significantly. What use to be a small problem has developed in a larger one. This issue is not made public by school officials or the Greenwich Time yet remains severely unresolved. Greenwich High School which may seem like an other high school in fact has been a main part of the problem where drugs can be easily accessed on a regular basis. An article was recently posted in the Greenwich Time, regarding drug sniffing dogs coming into the school to conduct searches. To many, this may seem like a normal procedure, when in fact it is not. Drug and other substances are in fact trafficked at the high school, which I am sure school officials are aware of but have done nothing, in order to keep the "Greenwich High Image" in tact. If many people think drug use is not an issue, or dealers being located in Greenwich, then how do you explain Federal Agents raiding houses in Greenwich? This a issue that has been well hidden among local media and town officials. This drug use does not only pertain to marijuana which is heavily used by a large amount of younger residents in town, but other drugs as well such as cocaine have been in use as well. Residents may wonder how one comes to the conclusion, but when you live here and you know where to get drugs and you don't even go to the high school or college there is obviously a problem. I strongly believe this is an issue that had been covered up, and should be focused on more.

Fallen tree kills woman in Greenwich (News Times)
A woman has died after she was hit by a fallen tree in backcountry Greenwich as a fierce storm ripped through the area, according to police.

Storm wreaks havoc in Greenwich (theoriginalgreenwichdiva)
A nor'easter ripped through Greenwich, Connecticut last night leaving many trees and electrical wires down. Heavy rains and winds brought down many trees and electrical wires leaving thousands of residents in the dark. Around 6:00 p.m. I was returning home from New Jersey and it took me over an hour to make what should have been a 2 minute ride from the Merritt Parkway to my home, which is in the backcountry section of town. The main road to my home, Round Hill Road, was blocked with down trees and wires, and, the alternative routes, Riversville Road, John Street and Will Merry Road were also blocked making it difficult for me to make it home. When I got to my street I was shocked and pleased that the power was still on. By the time I finally made it to my home the first damage assessment that I saw were two 20-foot trees sitting in the courtyard of my driveway. Late last night and early this morning the town used its high tech reversible emergency phone system, which automatically calls all phone numbers in Greenwich, with a message asking residents to stay indoors, for the safety of the emergency workers and residents. more....
