07/28/10 Jim Himes Says This Is Reckless, Wrong And On The Airwaves

Greenwich Roundup,

We knew this day would come, and we have prepared for it since day one. Our opponents have long filled the newspapers, the blogs and the discourse over the future well-being of Connecticut with hyperbole, misrepresentation, and unprincipled attacks. Now one of my well-funded opponents has taken his message to the airwaves.

This is the first, but certainly not the last. You and I both know why I'm running. Take a look, in their own words, what my opponents would do in Washington should we not fight for what we believe in:

The self-proclaimed frontrunner to oppose me in the fall believes in a different three Rs than we grew up with: repeal, renege, regress: "We need to repeal Obamacare;" "We have to recognize that the stimulus package has been a failure and we should repeal it;" He even opposed Wall Street Reform, calling it "the good, the bad and the ugly."

Another opponent wants to eliminate the US Department of Education. He has said, "Federal government should be out of the education system all together. I don't think they add value in that respect."

A third opponent has even said "we have to figure out what we're going to do with Social Security along with Medicare and Medicaid, because they loom over us as the biggest threat to freedom that we have in this country."

Friends, we've been talking about our vision for a better
America long enough that you know where I stand on the issues and how the programs I've backed have started turning our economy around (although you can click here for a refresher). I am writing you this note because there is much more work to be done. The critical legislation we've passed needs to be improved. Unemployment rates need to come down. Credit needs to begin to flow to small businesses. Improving education needs to come into focus in the national spotlight. And, our environmental and energy policy needs to be overhauled.

Thank you,

Jim Hiimes
