There was a full-scale response from the town's fire department due to the size of the home 5,000-square-foot home.
The call came in around 10 a.m. for the fire at 549 Indian Field Road.
Four stations responded to the scene, where firefighters had to scale the roof and rip down a second-floor ceiling in order to get at the flames.
No one was injured during the fire.
While firefighters approached the flame inside the house, additional crews went to the roof, where they cut a hole in the slate roof to ventilate the flames and smoke.
An official cause determination has not yet been made.
The fire was put out in about 25 minutes.
The owners will not be displaced by the blaze.
