03/31/09 Reporter Debra Friedman Has Breaking News - Court Records To Be Released

Court records to be released in missing Greenwich honeymooner's case

GREENWICH -- Nearly 2,200 pages of sealed court transcripts, documents and photos in the case of George Smith, a Greenwich man who vanished while on a Mediterranean honeymoon cruise in 2005, are set to be released to the public within 30 days, officials said.

The records include transcripts from a four-day hearing last May in which the probate court upheld Smith's widow, Jennifer Hagel Smith's, settlement with the Royal Caribbean cruise line as well as Hagel Smith's deposition in April 2007, according to Attorney Michael Jones, of Ivey, Barnum and O'Mara, who is representing George Smith's parents.

Attorneys for both sides met in Greenwich Probate Court Tuesday afternoon for a hearing about proposed redactions to the records that were made over the past 60 days by both parties....
