THE STORY:
FBI confirms former Greenwich resident's identity
FBI and Boston law enforcement authorities announced today they lifted a 27-year-old fingerprint off an aging immigration document to prove that Boston’s mystery man, Clark Rockefeller, is "the center of the largest con" they’ve ever seen.
His confirmed identity is Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, born in West Germany in 1961.
Investigators used a total of four fingerprints - one recently taken from a wine glass in Boston, two from his recent police booking in Baltimore and Boston, and one off of an immigration document Gerhartsreiter was required to fill out as a teen 27-years ago when he came over to America as a foreign exchange student.
Gerhartsreiter, who used the aliases Clark Rockefeller, Chris C. Crowe, Chris Chichester, Charles Smith and Chip Smith, according to the FBI, allegedly kidnapped his 7-year-old daughter, Reigh “Snooks” Storrow Mills Boss, from a Back Bay street on July 27, touching off an Amber Alert and eventually raising questions about how he apparently faked a series of identities, from filmmaker to luxury ship captain to physicist - over the last three decades throughout the nation.
He is being held on charges of kidnapping and assault as authorities in California have named him as a person of interest in the San Marino, Calif. disappearance and presumed murders of a newlywed couple in 1985.
