Dr. Hedi Leistner (below, at home yesterday), a friend of
Clark Rockefeller (above) , says he would never hurt his daughter.
Jerk Took Big Bucks Instead of Custody
By LORENA MONGELLI in Boston and LUKAS I. ALPERT in NY
The mysterious phony Rockefeller who kidnapped his daughter off a Boston street was paid a "significant" amount of money from his ex-wife to disappear - and gave up custody of the girl without a fight, a source familiar with the settlement told The Post yesterday.
The man known as Clark Rockefeller had doted on the little girl, Reigh "Snooks" Storrow Mills Boss, and had always told friends he had battled tooth and nail to keep his daughter in his divorce last year from his wife, Sandra Boss.
"He loved that daughter. That daughter was his life," said the source.
But when time came to fight in court for the 7-year-old girl, Rockefeller meekly ceded custody to his wife - a highly successful management consultant - and took a large cash settlement instead.
"He got a significant sum of money for him to live comfortably for the rest of his life," the source said.
Friends said Rockefeller always seemed to have his own money and had told people that at age 18 he inherited a vast estate when his parents were killed in a car wreck. But the source said Rockefeller, in fact, was broke.
"He is not a Rockefeller. He has zero money. She was his enabler," the source said....
Sources said the FBI was interested in talking to Manabe and had also reached out to one of Rockefeller's closest friends and confidantes, Hedi Leistner, a Manhattan pediatrician who has known him for years and whom he often described as his aunt.
"She has fielded all the calls of crisis in Clark's life," said a friend.
Leistner who lives in Greenwich, Conn., would not discuss her relationship with Rockefeller yesterday. She also would not say if she had been in contact with him since the abduction.
"Her father wouldn't hurt her," was all Leistner would say of Snooks.
