The Byram Neighborhood Association has hired a lawyer to fight the Greenwich Housing Authority's proposals to develop property in the western end of town, including an addition and new 4-story structure at a senior and family housing property near Western Middle School.
The neighborhood group first hired Greenwich lawyer James Fulton to fight the housing authority's proposals to develop a 4-acre wooded parcel in Byram, according BNA Chairman Michael Bocchino. Now, following plans submitted to the town by the housing authority, the lawyer will also fight a proposal to build 56 one-bedroom units in two new structures at McKinney Terrace, Bocchino said. McKinney Terrace, formerly the historic Byram School, is located on land that the housing authority leases from the town.
'We have retained his (Fulton's) counsel to make certain that the best interests of the western end of town are cared for,' Bocchino said.
'Most importantly, we're making certain the 4-acre parcel of land remains wooded open space and now, number two, that we're not the recipients of more dense population. We don't want to see a high rise in Byram, whether it's for seniors or affordable or workforce or regular housing. We can't really oppose renovation structures, but we're going to make certain that the historic integrity of the old Byram School will remain intact, and we don't want a high rise building.'
Fulton is being paid by private donations through members of the neighborhood association, Bocchino said....
