Staples girls fall to Greenwich in LaVista final

With Alexa Moses making 3-pointers at a rapid pace and the Greenwich High School girls basketball team playing lockdown defense, it was apparent early in Monday's Tony LaVista Tournament final that the Cardinals were going to seize what they captured the previous two years -- the tournament title. Behind Moses' hot shooting the Cardinals jumped out to a 14-point lead on Staples less than four minutes into the first quarter and never looked back, earning the three-peat they were determined to achieve.

Christmas Tree Fire Damages Pair Of Apartments At Greenwich's Wilbur Peck

A broken bulb on a Christmas tree is believed to have started a fire that caused smoke and water damage at two Wilbur Peck Court apartments Monday morning, Greenwich police and fire officials said. The natural Christmas tree caught fire after the tenant went to work, police said.

Christmas Tree Catches Fire In Greenwich Apartment

No one was injured after a Christmas tree lit on fired inside an apartment at Wilbur Peck Court on Monday morning, police said. The exact cause of the fire was still under investigation by the local fire marshal but police said it was believed to have been started by a broken light bulb in a string of Christmas lights.

Fire at Greenwich Housing Complex Likely Caused by Broken Christmas Tree Light

The fire broke out at approximately 9 a.m. when a natural Christmas tree caught fire inside an apartment at the complex. The fire is still under investigation by the Greenwich Fire Marshals office but the most likely ignition source is a broken Christmas tree light bulb According to polce, the residents of the apartment left the apartment for work leaving the lights illuminated on the tree.

The Avon Theatre and the Alliance Francaise of Greenwich present Hiroshima Mon Amour

The late Alain Resnais' HIROSHIMA MON AMOUR, a pillar of the French New Wave will be released by Rialto Pictures in a spectacular new 4K restoration and will be shown at Stamford's Avon Theatre on Thursday, February 12 at 7:30 p.m. The 1959 film, an official selection of this year's New York Film Festival, will open theatrically October 17 in New York City at The Film Society of Lincoln Center's Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, and in Los Angeles at Laemmle's Royal Theatre and other select locations. Suspicious package in Greenwich forces evacuation, delays

A suspicious package reported at the Greenwich train station Sunday afternoon forced the evacuation of the downtown station and caused delays up to an hour along the New Haven Line. The Stamford Police Department 's bomb squad was called in to investigate and after about two hours, determined the item was harmless.
