09/23/11 Greenwich Board Of Education Board Member Michael Bodson Says New Teachers Contract Could Lead To Firing Of Teachers In The Towns Schools

Bodson: "I hate to say it, but you're setting yourself up for layoffs in three years. I'm not anti-teacher, but you've got to face economic reality."

School Board Ultimately Votes 5-2, With Losers Michael Bodson And BOE Chairman Steven Anderson Voting Against The Teachers Contract

The Greenwich Board of Education last night approved a three-year contract for the towns public school teachers that includes raises and a change to a lower-cost health care plan.

Union Members of the Greenwich Education Association had already ratified the contract, which takes effect in July 2012.

The first year of the contract does not include a wage increase.

There will be a 2.5 percent general wage increase in each of the next two years of the contract.

The contract lowers health care costs by moving all eligible teachers from the current PPO health plan to a high-deductible plan with lower premiums as of January 2013.

Also, teachers will be enrolled in health savings accounts.
