08/28/11 CL&P Crews Have Started To Clear Downed Wires

Connecticut Light and Power crews have started to clear downed wires in town, with the aim of eliminating safety hazards.

The CL&P crews will NOT be shifting to power restoration until early tomorrow morning.

Many folks in Greenwich will most likely get their power turned on sometime in September.

The power company’s response teams are paired with town tree crews.

CL&P did not begin any work until 1 p.m., due to company and OSHA policies that do not allow workers on the job in winds above 35 miles per hour.

Currently 13,457 Greenwich customers were without power, up from just over 12,000 earlier this morning.

Town officials said Hurricane Irene knocked down 15 power poles in town.

That is being compared to 120 poles that were knocked during last year’s March nor’easter.
