Himes hears views on US debt at meeting with constituents

....“This one was more constructive and orderly than Fairfield,” Himes said later, noting that the earlier meeting at Fairfield Ludlowe High School had drawn a number of angry Tea Party conservatives ...

....

The congressman, who lives in Greenwich and is a former investment banker with Goldman Sachs, is used to talking about large sums of money. He noted at one point that the United States needs infrastructure repairs to roads, bridges, buildings, sewer plants and other facilities that are estimated to cost $2 trillion.

“Trillions are starting to sound like billions, something I never thought I’d say,” said a woman in the audience.....

..... Americans bear some of the guilt, and need to increase their savings rate and stop expecting cheap energy, Himes said.

Someone in the audience asked if Himes favored means tests for Social Security and Medicare eligibility.

Himes replied that Americans think of those as insurance programs, in which they put money and later take money out. Cutting off the benefits to wealthy people would make the social insurance programs seem to most Americans like benefits for poor people.

Instead, Himes said, he would rather graduate the benefits, giving a little more to poor people and a little less to rich people.

Candidates take a stand on debate over Islamic center near Ground Zero

.....In response to an interview request, Blumenthal's campaign said he was tied up in meetings....

....A total of 156 victims of the terrorist attacks were from Connecticut, 26 of whom had ties to Greenwich, the hometown of both Senate candidates, as well as U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn.

A spokeswoman for Himes said the freshman lawmaker, who is up for re-election in November, was on vacation with his family and unavailable for comment....

....

State Sen. Dan Debicella, R-Shelton, who won a three-way primary last week for the GOP nomination in the district represented by Himes, frowned on the prospect of the Islamic center near the site.

"I am all for freedom of religion, but it doesn't seem like this is the right location for this," Debicella said. "This is something that's very emotional for a lot of Fairfield County families who lost someone or knew someone who died on Sept. 11."....

...... It's just a sensitivity issue," McMahon said. "Nine-eleven was a horrendous attack on our country, and I just think building the mosque there (is) an unnecessary reminder and rubs salt in the wound."

Maureen Colligan, a Greenwich resident who lost her younger brother, Kevin Cleary, in the attacks, said she has no problem lumping the two groups together.

"The way I feel is that day, nine years ago, all rules and laws were broken by the same people of the same religious beliefs," Colligan said. "I believe it would be a travesty to allow the memory of those who lost their lives on 9/11 to be degraded by building a mosque at ground zero. It's an insult to their families and friends as well. There must be a compromise that does not offend."

Colligan rejects the view that opposition to the project infringes on religious freedom, saying that there well are over 1,200 mosques nationwide.....

Jim Himes vs. Fairfield County

Jim Himes: For History’s Biggest Tax Hike Within Two Months of Election Day

Incumbent Democrat Congressman Jim Himes is for a tax hike that he claims will hit only “the rich”. Himes is part of the Democrat majority that will hike the top tax rate on wages by over 13% to 39.6%. He will hike the capital gains tax by a third, to 20%. Under Pelosi and Himes, the tax on dividends will more than double, to 39.6% from 15%. Meanwhile, Himes will also slash in half tax credits for children and kill relief from the marriage penalty.

Hardest Hit: Fairfield County

The hardest hit will be the 4.3 million households whose marginal tax rate will approach 40%. Himes wants to hit 12.5 million American tax payers with history’s largest tax hike in the middle of a job-killing recession. An average of 29,000 tax paying individuals and small businesses per congressional district will be hit hard by the Himes tax hikes. Who will be hit the hardest? It turns out that the district that will fare the worst will be the fourth district of Connecticut. Over 146,000 Fairfield County taxpayers, comprising over a fifth of the district’s population, are members of families that will be forced pay an additional $1.7 billion in taxes next year. That’s more than $39,000 per household.

Jim Himes’ Class Warfare: We All Will Lose

For some voters, Himes’ efforts to stick it to our most successful neighbors and employers may hold some appeal. However, Himes’ tax hikes will have some unintended consequences that the incumbent congressman may not have adequately considered. For example, the 146,000 taxpayers in Fairfield County whose taxes will rise the most are responsible for over 30% of consumer demand in the county. They are responsible for employing over 50% of small business employees. So it is important to remember that when Himes goes after 20% of taxpayers, he also is going after your customers and your employers.

Fight Back: November 2nd

Jim Himes is fighting hard in Washington, DC to redistribute your private property to his endless government programs. On November 2nd, it will be time for Fairfield County to fight back by retiring Himes.
