03/26/10 BET Member Nancy Barton Criticizes First Selectman Peter Tesei For His Performance During The Aftermath Of The Storm.

Nancy Barton says First Selectman Peter Tesei “lacked empathy” in comments he made toward a disabled resident and she criticized both his attitude toward Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) and his dispute with Democratic Town Committee Chairman Frank Farricker over questions about what the town’s overtime policy was for town workers.

“We wish we had a better response system and more information and accountability,” Ms. Barton, told fellow BET Members.

Mrs. Barton also said. “Blaming the residents and the utility are not the answer. That’s why I want to restore the funding, because I think it’s important.”

Ms. Barton voted for restoring the money for the emergency management coordinator, but other BET members voted to set the funding at a reduced level of $51,000 in the department’s total budget line of $121,000.

The position is currently filled by former town Fire Chief Daniel Warzoha on a contractual basis of $60/hour.
