The Entire Is A Buzz About Greenwich Resident Roger Pearson:

Greenwich Democrat plans to challenge Dodd

The Hour

Democrat Roger Pearson said Monday he's "likely" to challenge embattled Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd in the 2010 primary.

The attorney and former Greenwich first selectman said he will decide within a few months whether to run.

"I'm seriously considering it," he told The Associated Press. "I am likely to do it."

He plans to reach out to state and local party officials as well as voters before deciding.....

Sen. Dodd attempts to re-connect w. CT
WTNH

Middletown (WTNH) - Senator Chris Dodd is attempting to re-connect with Connecticut in almost daily events over the next two weeks.

The Quinnipiac University Poll last week showed the five-term Democrat with the lowest favorability ratings of any incumbent since Governor John Rowland was enmeshed in scandal.

It's a bad time to be Chris Dodd and Dodd said he knows it. But he plans to remind people of what he's done in the past and the stuff he's working on now.

An event at the Middletown Fire house today was designed to highlight Senator Dodd's work on a grant for fire departments. In his speeches he is making it quite clear he has seen the polls......

Greenwich Democrat 'likely' to challenge Dodd
Hartford Courant

....."I want to see what the reaction is," Pearson said. "So far it has been a positive reaction." Dodd is the Senate Banking Committee chairman.

The five-term lawmaker has seen his popularity slip amid the financial meltdown and in the wake of his failed 2008 presidential campaign.

Pearson says he's unhappy with how Dodd has handled the economic crisis and he wants to give Democrats a choice.

Dodd's reliance on fundraising from Wall Street and other financial interests he oversees as chairman of the banking panel is troubling,

Pearson said. "I see politicians of Chris Dodd's ilk continually insinuating themselves on the public scene -- in Dodd's case propped up by the very interests he's supposed to keep an eye on.

To me, that's distasteful." said Pearson. "Dodd has become the poster child for meaningful, underline 'meaningful,' campaign finance reform." ....

The Most Vulnerable Senator Up for Re-Election in 2010?
RealClearPolitics

Veteran Sen. Chris Dodd (D) should not be vulnerable in his home state of Connecticut. As a longtime officeholder in a reliably Democratic state and the chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, Dodd should have the stature, political base and access to resources to dissuade even the most ambitious of Republicans from challenging him for re-election.

But the darkening cloud that is growing over the Senator's head has changed Dodd's prospects quickly, and the signs already are clear that he'll have the fight of his life next year when he seeks his sixth consecutive term in the Senate.

Coverage of Dodd's special treatment from lender Countrywide Financial - and his designation as a "friend of Angelo" - has blanketed local media, severely damaging Dodd's standing in a state where Democrats hold better than 2-1 majorities in both chambers of the state Legislature, hold all of the Congressional seats and haven't lost a U.S. Senate race since 1986.

Only one Republican, Lowell Weicker, has won a Senate race in the Constitution State since Prescott Bush did so in 1956. (Bush defeated Democrat Thomas Dodd, the current Senator's father.)

Chris Dodd has had no serious tests since he coasted to victory in an open-seat House race in the very Democratic year of 1974. Dodd's closest race since then was his first bid for Senate, in 1980, which he won by "only" 13 points over former New York Sen. Jim Buckley (R). Buckley had lost re-election in the Empire State in 1976 and figured that he might as well run for the Senate in neighboring Connecticut......

BofA, Morgan in adviser battle

Bank of America won a temporary restraining order this week preventing four former investment advisers from contacting clients.

In the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, Bank of America claims three New Yorkers -- John Pasacreta, John Rotando and Jordan Samuelson -- and Wilton resident Jeremy Donefer violated employment contracts after quitting Banc of America Investment Services Inc. and going to work for Morgan Stanley & Co. Inc. The New Yorkers are working in Morgan's Purchase, N.Y., office. Donefer is working in Morgan's Greenwich office.

The court clerk in White Plains, N.Y., confirmed on Friday a temporary order was issued.
Shirley Norton, a Bank of America spokeswoman, said Friday the bank filed "a complaint against four former associates for egregious breaches of contractual and fiduciary obligations to BAI following their carefully orchestrated resignations from the company to join Morgan Stanley, a direct competitor. . . .

Turner urges US to get into the game
Stamford Advocate
By Colin Gustafson

GREENWICH -- If the history of mankind were a baseball game, Cable News Network founder Ted Turner believes humanity has fallen two runs behind in the seventh inning.

The only way to win: End global warming, nuclear proliferation and overpopulation, he said.

"The game's not over. We still could win, but we're going to have to stop doing the dumb things and start doing the smart things," Turner said Monday at a Greenwich Library presentation.

"We've gotta hold 'em for the next two innings, and put three runs on the board -- and we've got to start right away."

That was one of the many pearls of folksy insight the 70-year-old philanthropist and media mogul sprinkled over a crowd of more than 100 during his talk, "The UN and Our Common Future," on Monday at the Cole Auditorium......

COMMENT:

Dear Mr. Margolick,

You are not the first national media company to contact Greenwich Roundup about the Bernard Madooff, Walter Noel and local victims of the Fairfield Greenwich Group. In fact, Greenwich Roundup has also been contacted by lawyers and government investigators.

Greenwich's Daily Newspaper is owned by Hearst Media and for some odd reason Hearst Newspaper's president Steven Swartz has allowed The Greenwich Time's Managing Editor Bruce Hunter to totally ignore the local angle of this story.

It is clear to many in Greenwich that Bruce Hunter doesn't have the journalistic balls to go after Greenwich resident Walter "Feeder Fund"Noel and his $7.5 Billion Financial swindle.

The Greenwich Time also ignored Greenwich's nine figure WG Trading Ponzie scheme.

Personally, I would recommend that you speak to Greenwich Citizen Journalist Chris Fountain has been all over the Bernard Madoff / Walter Noel / Fairfield Greenwich Group story.

Chris is a lawyer and a published author. Further, before becoming a Greenwich blogger he was a paid columnist about real estate in one of Greenwich's weekly newspapers.

In May Of 2008, local real estate brokers threatened to pull their ads and thus pressured the publisher of the weekly newspaper to fire Chris. The Greenwich real estate brokers were upset that Chris kept warning his readers that the Greenwich real estate was over priced and headed for a crash.

The local real estate brokers choose to shoot the messenger and told the local newspaper publisher that Chris was "talking down the local real estate market"

Well eleven months later there are many Greenwich residents that now wish that they had listened to Chris and lowered their asking price in early 2008.

Paedophile jailed for tot assault

Andrew Lintern, 55, must serve a minimum of three-and-a-half years before being considered for parole.A paedophile who admitted indecently assaulting a 17 month old baby has been given an indeterminate prison sentence.

Andrew Lintern, of Five Acres in Kings Langley, was arrested when he believed he was meeting a 13 year old girl intending to have sex with her.

The "child" whom he had been grooming for months online went under the name Jessie and was in fact a covert police officer.

At Southwark Crown Court in London on Monday (March 16) the former Oxford University research chemist was jailed for a minimum of three-and-a-half years. After this time he can be considered for parole.

He had previously pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting a 17 month old baby seven years ago, making, distributing and possessing 20,000 indecent images of children and travelling to meet a 13 year old girl after grooming her via the internet.

Father had children snatched from him for five years after partner made false paedophile claims, High Court told

A father has launched a High Court battle for compensation after his daughter was taken away from him for five yearsA father branded a paedophile in a police and social services 'witch hunt' is claiming damages for being put through a 'ghastly nightmare' five years long.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was suddenly accused by his disturbed ex-girlfriend of abusing their three-old-daughter - and an investigation was launched.

Although the mother was later said to be suffering from Munchausen's Syndrome by proxy - in which parents fabricate afflictions for their children - her claims were treated with deadly seriousness.

A social worker, Sandra Sullivan, and a policewoman identified only as WPC Grey, carried out an 'outrageous and oppressive' interrogation of the toddler, and decided sexual abuse had definitely occurred.

And it is claimed that WPC Grey then falsely told the father, identified only as B, that medical evidence proved he had abused his daughter, known only as L.

Child abuse whistle-blower arrested

Stuart Syvret, who claimed officials on Jersey covered up child abuse, may sue policeA controversial Jersey politician who claimed officials on the island covered up child abuse is considering legal action against the police after he was arrested.

Whistle-blower Stuart Syvret was arrested in the parish of Grouville in connection with an alleged breach of data protection law.

The 43-year-old senator was not charged and, after a day in custody, was released "pending further inquiries".

He said officers searched his home and he was kept in a police cell all day other than for a two-hour interview. He claims the police did not have a warrant to search his property and believes the arrest was politically motivated.

Mr Syvret said: "The whole exercise was designed to intimidate and harass me and to intimidate the whistle-blowers who give me information. This was an act of oppression against the person who is leading the opposition to the establishment on this island.

Bloggers excluded as family courts opened

Thousands of family hearings that take place behind closed doors will be opened to media this month, Jack Straw, the Justice Secretary, said yesterday.

Under the reform, accredited media will be able to attend all levels of family courts from April 27, removing the inconsistency of access between magistrates’ courts, which are generally open, and the county and high courts, which are closed.

Courts will still be able to restrict attendance if a child’s welfare requires it or if it is necessary to do so for the safety and protection of parties or witnesses. Parties to cases will be able to make representations to a court if they feel that there are good reasons for excluding journalists.

The Justice Ministry said that journalists who attended family courts would have to be accredited through the British press card scheme, which has a wide membership and is open to those working wholly or mainly in the media.

The scheme is not open to Bloggers, those who write occasional newsletters or to foreign media.

Doncaster: The rotten borough they call the Haringey of the north
Controversial: Doncaster Mayor Martin Winter

The social services department in Doncaster has such an appalling record of caring for children at risk that it is known to social work insiders as the 'Haringey of the North'.

This is a grim reference to the equally hapless North London council which failed to prevent the deaths of Victoria Climbié and Baby P.

Less than a month ago, Children's Secretary Ed Balls said there were 'serious weaknesses' in Doncaster's provision for youngsters and ordered a new management team into the crisis-hit authority.

He was forced to act because, despite repeated criticism, the figurehead of the so-called 'Rotten Borough', its controversial mayor Martin Winter, has refused to accept responsibility for - or even recognise - the department's chronic mismanagement and lack of accountability.

Social worker struck off after biting son

Woman whose sons were placed on protection register should not be in position of responsibility for other children, panel rules

A children's social worker was struck off the professional register today after biting her son while under the influence of alcohol.

The General Social Care Council (GSCC) said it could not name the individual or reveal the local authority where she worked. It received medical evidence that she suffered from an abnormal personality and longstanding mental health issues.

The case was heard in private by a conduct committee in Birmingham, under rules that guaranteed the social worker's anonymity. She did not attend.

The committee accepted evidence that the woman's two sons were considered at risk of emotional abuse and placed on the child protection register for 11 weeks in 2003.

Spare us from state-regulated grannies

If grandparents are paid for childminding, the bureaucrats will inevitably want to regulate them

It was fairly inevitable, I suppose, that sooner or later a pressure group would demand that the taxpayer pay grandparents for looking after their grandchildren. After all, there is barely anything in life these days that passes unpaid, so the climate must be right for some judicious exploitation of this most uncomplicated of relationships. So, we are told, your average granny would now like to be rewarded for her hard work with little Sofia or Emily or Jack. Or all three at once.

Looked at through accountant's spectacles, grandparents are a big business proposition. The UK has an estimated 13 million of them, more than a third of whom are said to spend the equivalent of three days a week caring for their grandchildren. If they all received extra state funding - in the form of national insurance credits and two weeks' “granny leave” - and if their children received childcare tax credit for using them as carers, we are looking at a scheme that involves a considerable bill for the taxpayer.
