Greenwich stuns Warde in final seconds to reach FCIAC championship

Wide open after gathering the ball off a steal, Greenwich High School junior Alexa Moses immediately knew what she had to do with her team trailing by two points in the final seconds of Tuesday night's FCIAC semifinal round matchup against Fairfield Warde -- shoot a 3-pointer. Showing poise under pressure, Moses checked where her feet where, flicked her wrists and hoisted up a shot that hit nothing but net when it landed, giving the Cardinals a one-point lead with just 5.1 seconds remaining.

Manfredi Jewelers of Greenwich Opens Store in Downtown New Canaan

There is, again, a jewelry and watch store at 72 Elm St. in downtown New Canaan, now that Manfredi Jewels has opened in the store there, the former location of Henry C. Reid & Son Jewelers. The Manfredi store, which officially opened this past weekend, is the first branch location for the store, founded in 1988 in downtown Greenwich.

Conn. woman avoid jail after stealing from maid

Greenwich resident Shari Lampert avoided prison Tuesday when she was given a suspended jail sentence after pleading guilty to stealing nearly $3,000 from her maid after the woman broke a fixture in Lampert's $7 million backcountry mansion. Lampert, 56, made guilty pleas to charges of second-degree larceny and driving while under the influence and was given a one year suspended jail sentence and three years' probation by Judge Gary White .

The Greenwich High School girls basketball team pulled out a last-second victory over Warde in the FCIAC semifinals Tuesday, winning 47-44. Trailing by two with less than 10 seconds to go, Greenwich's Alexa Moses stole a Warde inbounds pass and then sank a 3-pointer to put the Cardinals up 45-44 with 5.1 seconds remaining.
