Storied Boston jeweler opens on Greenwich Avenue

Greenwich Avenue is shimmering a little brighter this month, with the addition of Shreve, Crump & Low, a Boston-based jewelry store that opened its doors and stocked its display windows with carats upon carats of glimmering jewels. The storied shop claims to be America's oldest jeweler, with roots dating back to 1796 when original owner John McFarlane, a watchmaker and silversmith, opened a workshop across the street from Paul Revere at Downtown Crossing.

Snow Showers, Flurries Possible In Greenwich Wednesday

Investigation of Rape Claim Ends with Arrest for Prostitution

An 18-year-old woman named Chastity Angel Plummer called Greenwich Police Saturday afternoon to report that she had been sexually assaulted. When investigators from the Detective Division and the Special Victims Section were done with their investigation, it apparently turned out that Plummer was working as a prostitute who was stiffed on part of the fee she charged her customer, according to police.

Tireless -- a Dui Arrest in Greenwich

It was about 7:15 p.m. Sunday when Smith was on patrol on Hamilton Avenue in the Chickahominy neighborhood of town when he heard "a loud noise coming down Hamilton Avenue similar to that of a snowplow blade grinding against the asphalt." Smith found the vehicle making the offending sound and it turned out that the two right-side tires of the car were blown out, according to a Greenwich Police report.

Woman Faces DUI Charge After Driving Car With Blown Tires In Greenwich

On a night with no snow, a Greenwich police officer was startled to hear what sounded like a snowplow blade grinding against asphalt. But instead of a snowplow, the officer saw an even stranger sight: a car with two blown-out right tires grinding against the Hamilton Avenue pavement at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14. The driver then nearly ran into a wood fence near 37 St. Roch Ave. while attempting to stop for the officer, police said.

Greenwich Police Arrest Teen In Staged Home Invasion

A 17-year-old is facing multiple charges after he was accused of conspiring with a man to stage a home invasion, Greenwich police said. The teen told officers that on Nov. 17 he was at home alone at 279 Davis Ave. when two men dressed in black assaulted him and stole $11,500 worth of jewelry belonging to his mother's boyfriend, police said.

Greenwich Man Faces Cruelty Charge After Kicking His Dog

Enraged at his dog who ran away from his residence, a Greenwich man kicked the dog three times in the ribs, said police, who arrested him Saturday night. Officers were called to a North Water Street residence on the report of an intoxicated man, with a pit bull dog, yelling at passing motorists and pedestrians at about 6:30 p.m., police said.

Greenwich's Bendheim Western Civic Center Hosts Roller Skating Party

A Roller Skating Party will be held at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center on Monday, Dec. 29, the Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation has announced. The session will be offered for children in kindergarten through sixth grade from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. The cost to skate is $5 and includes the skate rental if needed.
