FOLSOM HOUSEMASTER ACCEPTS
PRINCIPAL POSITION IN CHAPPAQUA

(For immediate release: Tuesday, April 14, 2009 – Greenwich, CT)

Greenwich High School’s Folsom Housemaster, Martha M. Zornow, has announced that she has accepted position as the Principal for Seven Bridges Middle School in the Chappaqua Central School District, Westchester, NY, effective July 1, 2009. Ms. Zornow was appointed as a Housemaster for Greenwich High School in 2007. As a certified administrator, she also took on a leadership role in supervising and supporting the English staff at the high school. In the two years that Ms. Zornow has been with the Greenwich Public Schools she has made important contributions to both the high school and the District. She is a dedicated member of the District’s secondary reform initiative – The Secondary Schools Review Committee – helping to draft the Vision of a Graduate and identify recommendations for improvement. Ms. Zornow has also been a key driver in launching the high school’s AVID program – Advancement Via Individual Determination - a research-supported framework and curriculum used for supporting and mentoring students. Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Betty J. Sternberg, said “In the short time that Martha has been here, she has made tremendous contributions to the Greenwich Public Schools. She was instrumental in developing the AVID program at Greenwich High School and of particular note were her support and advocacy for this program. Chappaqua’s gain is most certainly Greenwich’s loss. We wish Martha all the best for a successful future in education.”

Ms. Zornow began her second career, in education, in 2001 as an English teacher at
PS/MS 20 in the Bronx, N.Y. While at PS/MS 20, she was elected as the Cohort
Representative to the Teaching Fellows Board, working with the NYC Schools
Chancellor to provide feedback on this alternative certification program and mentoring new Fellows. In 2003, she moved to Ardsley Middle School in Ardsley, N.Y. as an English teacher and the English Curriculum Leader. Four years later, in 2007, she came to the Greenwich Public Schools as Housemaster at Greenwich High School.

Prior to entering the field of education, Ms. Zornow had a successful legal career as
senior counsel for MTV Networks and as Vice-President for Technology and Operations for Viacom, Inc. Ms. Zornow’s legal career began in 1980 as a Law Clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. After holding associate positions in various firms from 1981 to 1986, she was named Senior Counsel for Showtime Networks, Inc. In 1987, she became Deputy General Counsel and then General Counsel for the National Association of Public Television Stations in Washington, D.C. In 1990, she returned to New York as Senior Counsel for MTV Networks and was lead attorney on the MTV Asia and Nickelodeon UK joint venture agreements. In 1992, she moved to Viacom, Inc. as their Vice-President for Technology and Operations, responsible for all video delivery and encryption capacity worldwide, including satellite capacity.

Ms. Zornow received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in East Asian Studies graduating
Magna cum laude from Harvard College, Cambridge, MA in 1977; her Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School graduating Cum laude in 1980; her Master of Science Degree in Education from City College of New York, in New York, N.Y. in 2002; and her Master of Education in Education Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, N.Y. in 2006. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts Degree in English Literature from Iona College, New Rochelle, NY (expected 2010).
