Cheese chop opens in Cos Cob after success in Fairfield

After five years operating a successful cheese shop in Fairfield, cheesemongers Laura Downey and Chris Palumbo branched out this week, opening Greenwich Cheese Company at 154 E. Putnam Ave. "Greenwich didn't have a cheese shop, and we really saw this as an opportunity to bring that to town," said Downey, who said she has loved cheese her whole life. She and her co-owner, who came to the cheese world after a career in catering, are the only retail owners in the state of Connecticut to be American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professionals, a certification held by only a few hundred people nationwide.

Copper Thefts at Greenwich Construction Sites Lead to Arrest After Suspect Sells Metal for Scrap

A man is facing larceny charges in connection with the theft of copper gutters and roofing panels from Greenwich construction sites, according to reports. According to a Greenwich Police report, Andrew J. Woltmann, 31, of 14 Ohio Ave., Norwalk, was arrested Dec. 8 after Norwalk Police took him into custody for unspecified reasons.

According to a police report, the man is facing two counts of violation of probation, both stemming from two separate arrests in 2013. Wade P. Curley 23, of 6 Benders Dr., Greenwich, surrendered at police headquarters Dec. 10.
