Jessie Ford, 92; Mother of Greenwich Resident

Jessie Ford, of Highams Park, London, England, died peacefully surrounded by her family at Greenwich Hospital after battling a short illness, November 22, 2014 at the age of 92. Born in Chilton, County Durham, England on December 1, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Cockburn . She was the widow of Denis Arthur Ford whom she met while both were serving in the British Army in the north of England during World War II and they shared 40 wonderful years together in London until his passing in 1987.

Armstrong Court Renovation Plan Won't Include Senior Housing

Plans to build apartments for senior citizens at the Armstrong Court public housing complex have been scrapped by the Greenwich Housing Authority. The Housing Authority made the announcement at the Nov. 19 Board of Selectmen's meeting where the three-member board approved a municipal improvement status for the authority's proposal to renovate and expand the complex.

Dorothy McCullough, Greenwich Resident

Dorothy J. McCullough passed away peacefully at home in Greenwich on Saturday, November 22, 2014, following an extended illness. Dottie loved her New York Yankees, and she was an avid golfer.

Andrew Greenspan, principal of GHP Office Realty, said the company wants to sell the 6-acre, part-commercial and part-residential property at 19 Newtown Turnpike to a hedge fund; technology or financial services company; nonprofit; senior housing developer; or a private school.

Greenwich Planning and Zoning Extends Moratorium on Marijuana Dispensaries

The Greenwich Planning and Zoning Commission agreed this week to extend its moratorium for another year on applications for marijuana related businesses, Greenwich Time reports. Town Planner Katie DeLuca said the town is trying to gather information on the experience of other communities where dispensaries have opened, however not much information has been available, the publication reports.

GRS Receives Unanimous Approval for Synagogue

Greenwich Reform Synagogue was given unanimous approval by the Town of Greenwich Planning & Zoning Commission Nov. 25 for its plan to build a new Synagogue in the Cos Cob section of Greenwich. The P&Z vote paves the way for construction of only the second purpose-built synagogue in the town's 374-year history.

Greenwich extends medical marijuana moratorium

The Greenwich Time reports the moratorium was initially put in effect last year to give town planning commissioners time to determine where a company selling legalized pot could do business. Town Planner Katie DeLuca said Greenwich is trying to find out what it's been like for other communities where marijuana dispensaries have opened.
