09/14/10 PRESS RELEASE: Versailles Restaurant Moves to New Location

Renaissance on the Avenue: Historic Versailles Restaurant Moves to New Location on Greenwich Avenue

GREENWICH, Conn., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Versailles Restaurant, considered "an icon on the Avenue," has moved a little over 100 feet on Greenwich Avenue to 339 Greenwich Avenue from 315 Greenwich Avenue and officially opened for business today in its new location. The opening extends Versailles' 30 years of uninterrupted service to the community on Greenwich Avenue, and is among the few restaurants in Greenwich still operating under its original name.

The restaurant, which is also offering a formal dinner menu for the first time in six years, has an additional 800 square feet in the new location that features a coffee bar and expanded wine list. Versailles has also greatly expanded its wine cellar and will now offer more than 40 varieties of champagnes and wines, the majority of which will come from France.

Versailles also has a new executive chef and general manager, Jean-Pierre Bagnato. Chef JP, who joined Versailles in May, has created an exciting new menu that offers many new culinary delights in addition to the traditional heartwarming dishes for which Versailles is renowned.

"Keeping Versailles on the Avenue was critical when we bought the restaurant but we knew for it to succeed would require a change of location and major investment in culinary talent," said Ingrid McMenamin, co-owner of Versailles adding, "We love this restaurant and saving it has become a passion for everyone involved."

Versailles faced certain closure in the spring of 2009 when the original owner/chef died in a tragic accident. Ingrid McMenamin and her husband Steve immediately stepped in, saving not only the famed local restaurant, but retained over a dozen long standing employees who all faced an uncertain future if Versailles closed.

"This restaurant is part of the fabric of the Greenwich community and its closure would have been a true tragedy as generations of families gather regularly and local business leaders meet daily," McMenamin said.

"We are delighted that Versailles' long tradition will continue on Greenwich Avenue. It's pastries are decadent and their breakfast-brunch are legendary," said Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei, the Town's highest ranking public official. "TheVersailles team and Ingrid and Steve have our very best wishes for another 30 prosperous years in our community."

Versailles has expanded its hours from 7:30 am to 10 pm. The new dinner menu will feature an assortment of regional cuisines including Cassoulet, souffles and Steak Frites.

"Our new location will allow us to improve every facet of Versailles from our food to the comfort of our customers without losing the restaurant's original character," said Jean-Pierre Bagnato, adding, "Our new location will also offer an ideal venue for private events and expand our catering capabilities with our exclusive bakery."

About Versailles

Versailles is located at 339 Greenwich Avenue. The restaurant is open from 7:30 to 11 AM, for breakfast, 11 AM to 2:30 PM for lunch, and 6 to 10:00 PM for dinner. Visit us on the web at: www.versaillesgreenwich.com or call us at (203) 661-6634 for reservations or further information.

09/14/10 Linda McMahon for Senate 2010 Statement on the Quinnipiac University Poll

Linda McMahon for Senate 2010 Statement on the Quinnipiac University Poll

West Hartford, Conn., September 14, 2010 – Linda McMahon for Senate 2010 spokesman Ed Patru released the following statement in reaction to today’s Quinnipiac University poll:

"Connecticut voters are anxious about the state of the economy and frustrated that the career politicians just don’t get it. They are moving toward Linda because she gets it. She’s been a working mother who’s had to balance raising a family with a career; she’s been bankrupt and she’s started over. She doesn’t have to pretend she knows what’s it’s like to experience economic anxiety and hardship, because she’s actually lived it. And unlike the career politicians, she doesn’t have to pretend she understands how small businesses create jobs because she’s actually built a business and created jobs. She has the right kinds of experience, right now.

“Dick Blumenthal is just another politician and Connecticut can’t afford more of the same. He says he’s fighting for ordinary people, but he supported a partisan assault on health care that made health care more expensive while cutting over $500 billion from Medicare. He supports the President’s national energy tax that will increase electricity bills by $1,000 per household, raise gas prices by 68 cents a gallon and will cost Connecticut another 13,600 jobs. He says he supports lower taxes, but he voted for the largest tax in Connecticut history. Dick Blumenthal just doesn’t get it.

“Since January, Dick Blumenthal’s 41-point lead in the polls has all but evaporated. While Linda has been focused on economic recovery and job creation, Blumenthal has been waiting out the clock and relying on his political allies to run negative attacks against Linda – attacks that were paid for by tens of thousands of dollars secretly funneled from the Blumenthal estate.

“This will be an election, not a coronation. And in November, Connecticut voters will have a clear choice between a career politician who doesn’t get it and a proven job creator who does.”

Former Greenwich Selectman Dubs Shen Yun 'Very special'
The Epoch Times
WESTCHESTER, New York—Former selectman of Greenwich, Lolly Prince, and her friend, Judy Meyer, were stunned by the Shen Yun Performing Arts’ presentation of classical Chinese dance and music. The friends were amid an appreciative audience that packed the theater at the Performing Arts Center, Purchase College, SUNY, and lauded the world-premier performing company with a standing ovation at the final curtain on Sunday evening, Sept. 12.

“I’m mesmerized by it. We were just saying that there’s so much in it about the divine, and the scenery, and costumes so blend together, and then the dance is … what can I say? It’s very special,” Ms. Prince said.

At the heart of the New York-based Shen Yun performance is the rediscovery of ancient China’s divinely-inspired traditions portrayed through China's heroic, folkloric and modern-day stories.

Political Thoughts from JP: In Response to Greenwich's Former ...
By Alcyone
To the editor (Greenwich Post):

In his letter on September 9th, former Selectman Peter Crumbine assailed “liberal politicians” in Washington and Hartford for trillion-dollar deficits, sky-high unemployment and health care reform. The problem with Mr. Crumbine—and the Republican establishment—is that they love to play fast and loose with the facts.

They conveniently ignore that President Bush added nearly $5 trillion to the federal debt, reversing budget surpluses left to us by Clinton economic policies. The unemployment rate started its steady march upward well before President Obama took office. While it has continued to climb, the trend in job losses reversed itself after the Obama stimulus package was passed, supporting the perspective that the stimulus is achieving its goal of restoring the economy to health. If Republicans are so masterful at managing the economy, how is it that under Clinton, four times as many jobs were created as during the following Bush years?

Republicans appear to be pleased with the current state of health care, since they did everything in their power to block any attempt at reform. Apparently 45 million non-elderly uninsured (four out of five of whom are in working households), a steady decline in employer-based coverage and premiums growing four times faster over the past decade than wage increases are facts that don’t matter.

Mr. Crumbine encourages us to send “free market business executives with proven records of success” to Washington and Hartford. The same successful business executives, no doubt, that brought the global economy to its knees with their “fiscally conservative” risk taking and whose banks had to be bailed out by Bush with a $700 billion rescue package.

I suggest the next time a Republican asserts facts about how bad Democrats are for the economy, take the time to do some fact checking. You’ll be surprised at what you find.
