03/17/10 Schools Status for Thursday And Friday

All Schools Are Closed for the Remainder of the Week for Students*:
Thursday, March 18, 2010 and Friday, March 19, 2010

*Note for Staff – All schools will be closed for staff on Thursday, March
18, 2010. However, Friday, March 19, 2010 will be a regular work day for
all staff. Please continue to check back for updates.

While power has now been restored in each of the schools, the biggest
issue remains the lack of safe passage to schools. The First Selectman,
Superintendent of Schools and other officials conducted a driving tour of
the roads throughout Greenwich to obtain a firsthand view of the status of
the roads. In addition, the Greenwich Police Department and school bus
drivers ran the bus routes today in order to assess safe passage. By all
accounts, many of the routes to school remain impassable and/or unsafe.
There are trees, poles and/or wires blocking safe passage for cars, buses
and for walkers. We appreciate your patience as we navigate the
complexities of addressing the aftermath of this storm and these
extraordinary circumstances. We understand the many frustrations you are
faced with and we are working hard to ensure safe passage to schools.

Please continue to check the web site, phone messages, local media, etc.
for updates. We will continue to communicate information as it becomes
available.
