UPDATE:
First Selectman Peter Tesei got the last laugh Tuesday in his re-election battle against Lin Lavery, a no-holds-barred contest that the Republican's supporters said was as much a statement on the tenor of the campaign as Tesei's leadership.
As a crowd of Republican supporters gathered Tuesday night at the St. Lawrence Society in Cos Cob, the mood remained confident as the polls began to come back overwhelmingly in their favor.

Slideshow/Video At first festive, Dems grow deflated as poll results arrive
Democratic Town Committee member Frank Farricker started the evening on Tuesday optimistic about his party's odds.
Minutes before voter tallies began trickling in around 8 p.m., Farricker said his fellow Democrat Lin Lavery was running neck-and-neck with Republican incumbent Peter Tesei in the first selectman polls -- by as narrow as a 500-vote margin.

Greenwich Hospital doctor ensnared in sex scandal

After ending a torrid affair, a Greenwich Hospital doctor is now entangled in a legal battle with his ex-mistress who claims the prominent surgeon had sex with her in the sterile wing of the hospital while on duty and injected her with botox without authorization.

Dr. Stephen Carolan, 52, who heads up the hospital's Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, filed a lawsuit in September arguing his ex-mistress set out on a "campaign of defamation conducted over the Internet" seeking to tarnish Carolan's name and practice with lies.

The mistress, Jill Kent, 64, of Greenwich, and her lawyer, Mark Sherman, shot back last month with a counter lawsuit arguing Kent's Internet posts describing their sexual trysts at the hospital were true and alleging Carolan acted "unethical" in his professional capacity.

In court papers, Kent claims Carolan sent her "photographs of his erect penis" while he was working as a surgeon at the hospital and that he instructed her to get a hepatitis C vaccine and test after having sex with her, leading Kent to believe the doctor may have contracted the sexually transmitted disease......
