LEADING WITH KINDNESS: HOW GOOD PEOPLE CONSISTENTLY GET SUPERIOR RESULTS
A Short History of Women
Just Books
28 Arcadia Road, Old Greenwich, CT
Free and Open to the Public

Just Books is pleased to welcome Greenwich and New York City resident and author William F. Baker, Ph.D., as he visits Just Books to sign copies of his newest book Leading with Kindness: How Good People Consistently Get Superior Results (Amacom; $24.95). Bill Baker experienced leading with kindness firsthand during his 20 years at the helm of Educational Broadcasting Corp., parent company of WNET-TV (Channel Thirteen) and WLIW-TV (Channel 21). It inspired him to affirm and refine his notion of what honorable bosses can accomplish. With his friend Michael O'Malley, Ph.D., Baker did extensive research and interviewed dozens of leaders in diverse organizations. They share their insights into strong, effective leadership in Leading with Kindness: How Good People Consistently Get Superior Results. Today, many leaders have realized that when it comes to business, nice guys often finish first. Old-fashioned images of corporate callousness and greed have been replaced by a gentler, more human conception of great leadership. But how does one define "kindness" in the context of business? And what is the best way to "use" this deceptively complex notion as a guiding principle to lead an organization successfully into the future?

Just Books and the Westport Library, along with The Transition Network, are pleased to welcome acclaimed author and a founding editor of Ms. magazine, Suzanne Braun Levine, who will explore the unexpected rewards of women experiencing their second adulthood with her new book, Fifty is the New Fifty: Ten Life Lessons for Women in Second Adulthood (Viking; $25.95). This event will be held at the Westport Library, 20 Jessup Road, Westport, Conn. Call 203-291-4800 for additional information.

A nationally recognized authority on women, media, and family issues, she lectures widely and has appeared on major television talk shows, including Oprah, Charlie Rose, and Today. In Fifty is the New Fifty, Braun Levine follows her groundbreaking book Inventing the Rest of Our Lives, with new insights, research and practical advice on the challenges that women experience as they reach their fifties and beyond. Free and Open to the Public

Just Books welcomes Fairfield County author, writer and radio commentator Jessica Bram as she introduces her newest book Happily Ever After Divorce: Notes of a Joyful Journey (HCI; $14.95). Jessica Bram is a writer and award-winning radio commentator.

In Happily Ever After Divorce, Bram notes that more than half of all marriages end in divorce. However, joy and happiness do not have to end with the marriage. Happily Ever After Divorce: Notes of a Joyful Journey, gives a positive view of life on the other side and the journey that Bram took to keep her family and herself sane and intact. The book shows that you can keep a sense of self and humor during a most difficult time, and emerge triumphant. Bram is also founder of the Westport Writers' Workshop, where she teaches private workshops in creative nonfiction, memoir, and essay writing. Information about these and other workshops, including fiction and magazine writing, can be found on http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102726245647&s=42220&e=001Nw64_EJkqwqvIeNNFHCfj3tNsJT4dHf-cNHdFzpTRpXWfhWprArfcSH924Ya7090LwcBkQSTB5rd0_YqVFNru3tIsNmBuC3-NBPIvyM0hJm-EbcI9OQpmKQCmZ3O9l8w.

KATIE MALACHUK
YOU'RE ACCEPTED: LOSE THE STRESS. DISCOVER YOURSELF. GET INTO THE COLLEGE THAT'S RIGHT FOR YOU.
You're Accepted
Just Books
28 Arcadia Road, Old Greenwich, CT
Free and Open to the Public

Just Books welcomes Katie Malachuk, author and admissions consultant as she combines her expertise into this new, no-nonsense approach to the college application process in her book, You're Accepeted: Lose The Stress. Discover Yourself. Get into the College That's Right For You (Kaplan Publishing; $21.95).

Malachuk, a Magna Cum Laude graduate from Harvard College with a Masters in Business from Stanford, combines a traditional background with a very different outlook. In addition to experience as a very successful college placement counselor, Katie Malachuk, also utilizes her knowledge as a Yoga instructor to guide students through the application process. According to the U. S. Department of Education, 2009 was the most competitive class in history, with record numbers of high school graduates-and record numbers of applications to colleges and universities throughout the country. With that in mind, parents and students are understandably "stressed out!" Malachuk suggests applying yoga's lessons of self-reflection and focus, to show anxious students how to make themselves more attractive candidates, narrow their lists of potential schools, maximize the effect of their essays and seek out mentors for guidance and recommendations.

"Why is it important to attend an event like this? What if one day you had an accident that rendered you a quadriplegic or a paraplegic? What if one day you were told you had a neurological disorder that would limit you to a wheelchair for the rest of your life?

Paul and Joyce (sm)What if, under these unimaginable circumstances, you became an Olympic Gold medalist or famous physicist or dancer, named one of the fifty most beautiful people in the world, met with the Dalai Lama or Heads of State? What if you climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro unassisted? Or what if you just went sailing?

Individuals with disabilities perform amazing feats everyday...big and small...Feats that require courage, tenacity, creativity, character and determination. They are true inspirations in our lives as we meet our own unique challenges, whatever those may be."
