09/03/09 Greenwich Time Cub Reporter Colin "BOE Brown Nose" Gustafson Is Starting To Discover How Wrong He Has Been

Shame, Shame, Shame On ......

Failed Former Assistant Greenwich Superintendent of Schools John Curtin.
The Very High Paid Curtain Wants To Blame Disabled Students, Because His Instructional Programs Were Not Effective

.....This newspaper's banner headline: "Test scores on the rise."

That tune changed somewhat Wednesday when a state report showed that four Greenwich public schools, or one in four across the district, had failed to meet achievement targets this year under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.

That's twice the number of schools that were cited by the state as underperforming last year, even though this year's achievement scores were up nearly across the board, and fewer disadvantaged students missed the proficiency target.....

.....said former Assistant Superintendent of Schools John Curtin, who is now analyzing the scores for the district as a special projects manager. "Even though we improved, we didn't improve uniformly across all student subgroups to the amount we had to. So we still fell short (of the federal standards)."

More often than not, it was students with disabilities who lagged consistently this year....

......Paige Davis, whose daughter received special-education services, believes disabled students would be able to hit the federal target if they get the proper instruction.

She believes more needs to be done to fine-tune the special-education curriculum at school as well as train teachers to address each student's unique learning needs.

"If you apply the appropriate programs in the special education setting, they should be able to perform better on these tests," she said. "If we do right by these kids, it will make a difference."

There are 963 students in the district receiving special-education services this year, or roughly 11 percent of the overall student population.......

COMMENT:

Greenwich Time Cub Reporter Colin "BOE Brown Nose" Gustafson Did Not Report That Failed Former Assistant Greenwich Superintendent of Schools John Curtin Had Been In Charge Of Curriculum And Testing.
Failed Greenwich School Administrators Like Former Assistant Superintendent Of Schools John Curtin Want To Blame Disabled Students For His Failure To Provide Appropriate And Effective Programs.

This Is The Failure Of Very High Paid School Administrators And Disabled Students Should Not Be Blamed For Administrative Short Comings.
Greenwich Superintendent of Schools Sidney Freund Should Say, "The Buck Stops Here. Greenwich School Administrators Have Failed These Children In The Past, But Now That I Am Here Things Are Going To Change."
These Children Did Not Fail, They Busted Their Tails And Did Their Best On These Tests.
It Was Very High Paid Aministrators Like Betty Sternberg And John Curtin Who Failed These Children.

09/03/09 PRESS RELEASE: Pedestrian Safety Operation

See attached press release for details.

(See attached file: Pedestrian Safety Operation)

Lieutenant Daniel Allen
Greenwich Police Department
Public Information Officer
11Bruce Place
Greenwich, CT 06830
Tel. 203-618-8819
Fax 203-618-8852

PRESS RELEASE:

Pedestrian Safety Operation

On Thursday September 3, 2009, the Greenwich Police Department Traffic
Enforcement Unit along with the Community Impact Section conducted a
Pedestrian Safety Operation on Mason Street at the intersection of
Fawcett Place and Milbank Avenue.

The focus of the enforcement effort was motorists failing to yield to
pedestrians trying to cross the street in the two clearly marked
crosswalks. In addition, those motorists using a cell phone while
driving were also stopped. The enforcement operation consists of a
plainclothes police officer acting as a pedestrian trying to cross the
street, in the clearly marked crosswalk, and then observing which cars
stop and which do not. Uniformed officers, in radio contact with the
plainclothes officer, pull over those motorists that do not stop down
the street.

The effort was a result of numerous complaints received by the Police
Department concerning the problems encountered at that location by
pedestrians trying to cross Mason St by utilizing the crosswalk. The
results of this morning’s effort are as follows:

(3) Stop sign violations
(7) Cell phone violations
(18) Failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
28 total citations issued

These, and other efforts will continue as the Department strives to
respond to the public in attempting to make the Town of Greenwich safer
for pedestrians and motorists. As of this date, motor vehicle collisions
are down almost 10% for 2009 as opposed to the same time period in 2008.

09/03/09 Greenwich Real Estate Blogger Chris Fountain Now Has Competition From Eric Bjork, Vice President Of Prudential Connecticut Realty

Greenwich owners put houses up for rent

As sales have fallen in pricey Greenwich, Conn., this year, more homeowners have put their homes up for rent. The number of single-family properties for rent increased six-fold this year, with more than 525 houses rented or available for lease as of August, according to Eric Bjork, vice president and sales director for Prudential Connecticut Realty. About 50 of those homes were listed for a rent of at least $15,000 per month. The most expensive lease currently available in Greenwich is $42,000 per month for a 14,800-square-foot, six-bedroom home on Conyers Farm Drive.

Glenville construction: Ready for Thanksgiving move?
Written by Ken Borsuk, Staff Reporter

The grand opening of the renovated Glenville School is still months away, but a select group of parents, school officials and community leaders were pleasantly shocked by what they saw Monday when they got a first-hand progress report on site.
Sue Rogers, a former Glenville PTA president and longtime advocate for the renovation who now heads the town’s PTA Council, said it was hard to believe the building of today was the same one they had left behind more than a year ago.

After pulling off a mini-upset at July’s Democratic Town Committee meeting and securing the party’s nomination despite the executive committee’s endorsement of John Conte, Drew Marzullo threw himself into the race for selectman Sunday as he officially kicked off his campaign. Mr. Marzullo was joined not only by friends, family and runningmate Selectwoman Lin Lavery, but also by United States Rep. Jim Himes (D-4), state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and state Sen. Andrew McDonald (D-27).

Julie Rodriguez remembers the many times her father Skip Azud worked through snowstorms and other extreme weather conditions to do his job during his 35 years as highway operations manager in town. This winter, he may have a chance to relax, as Mr. Azud was among the 49 town employees who opted to retire this year. Twenty-two of these employees were honored at an Aug. 28 ceremony at Greenwich Library’s Cole Auditorium.
